This is my selection of bowlers in an all-time test team for a flat, docile wicket on the sub-continent with no pace and bounce.

I would open the attack with Wasim Akram and Andy Roberts .First change I would introduce Malcolm Marshall and 2nd change Imran Khan.

Wasim's variety would make him my first selection. No paceman had more creative genius who could extract life and movement from the deadest of wickets with his supreme mastery of craft and wizardry of a magician.Malcolm Marshall was Akram's right-arm equivalent while Andy Roberts was epitome of a craftsmanship posessing every weapon in his armoury.Imran was the epitome of agression and competitive spirit who could produce a combination of deadly pace and swing. All were effective wit the new and old ball.

Andy's 32 wickets in India in 1974-75 single-handedly spearheading the bowling attack,Marshal's record haul of 33 wickets in India in 1983-84 and the performance of Imran and Wasim on home turf where they have a staggering haul of scalps were the basis of my selection. Also took into consideration all-round skill combining pace ,movement, control and variety.

Kapil Dev just misses out inspite of outstanding performance against Pakistan and West Indies on placid sub-continent surfaces ,because he lacked genuine pace.Waqar Younus misses out by a whisker.Michael Holding was too injury -prone but at his best could well have been included if you remember his 30 wickets in India in 1983-84.Courtney Walsh almost made it as well.Dennis Lillee never proved himself in the sub-continent,otherwise he was a certainty for inclusion while Hadlee and Mcgrath did not posess the all-round skill or pace of Imran,Marshall,Wasim or Roberts.

Marshall, Akram, McGrath, Roberts.

And Manoj Prabhakar as first replacement, if anyone got injured.......

Your list is fine Akram would be the first name on the team sheet.. Imran and Marshall are also automatic picks i didn't knew about Roberts record in sub continent seems he bowled well on phattas..

Shoaib Akhtar

155+ kph balls will be deadly on any wicket

Preferred Michael Holding for pure consistency of speed through the air.Remember his 14 wickest at the Oavl on afeatherbed iin 1976.At his best a certainty but prone to injury.

Mcgrath was the epitome of control and accuracy but lacked variety and genuine pace would prefer Walsh or Holding

Lillee was extraordinary in Melbourne, one of the roadiest roads ever laid.

Holding got fourteen wickets in that Oval pudding where nobody else got more than two.

Otherwise.... swing merchants. Lindwall, Trueman, Hadlee, Imran, Wasim, Waqar.

Imagine Dwayne Leverock near a flat pancake, or any pancake for that matter.

Wasim Akram
Glenn Mcgrath
Malcolm Marshall
Shoaib Akhtar (fully fit)

I'd bring in Akhtar to be used as a weapon at 95+ MPH. Your 4th pacer needs to have that extra something due to the shorter spells he's bound to receive.

Tell him to run in hard and eventually get that ball to reverse.

Lol Imran and Wasim make it with eyes closed !!!

The other two spots are debatable....

Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib. Once the ball starts reversing, they will roll any team over for 50.

We all know what happened to these two against the best team of all time, lol, both went missing. Akhtar was the one who destroyed the batting line up of the best team of all time, and that too on a flat track. Now don't tell me Wasim and Waqar were not at their peak. McGrath used to take wickets for fun even in the last phase of his career.

lol akthar on a flat track would be absolutely useless, don't you remember what happened to him on flat tracks against India where even dhoni took him to the cleaners :uakmal

My pace attack would consist of 3 fast bowlers along with 1 all rounder who can bowl fast.

I would choose the following, for a Test match on a flat track;

1. McGrath (Bowler)
2. Akhtar (Bowler)
3. Donald (Bowler)
4. Imran (All Rounder)

Imran, Hadlee, Marshall, McGrath.

Imran, Hadlee and Marshall swing it around.
Imran and Marshall are quick.
McGrath can move it off any surface and gets bounce.
Hadlee and McGrath are extra-ordinary accurate bowlers
Imran and McGrath known to get reverse swing as well (if taught all four would be capable of getting)

Different players hit their peak at different ages. Waqar lost his pace and became less effective with age. Wasim too, to an extent. They were not in their primes.

Besides you are forgetting how good Wasim was vs the WI of the 80's with players like Haynes, Greenidge, Richards etc- arguably as good a team as Aus were later on

McGrath was lucky to have a great fielding unit and very lucky to not have to bowl at the Australians. His performances vs the second best team of the era in South Africa are above average at best.

Furthermore, McGraths one five wicket haul in the sub continent in 17 games is enough evidence that he should not be here. His 3/70 performances are not going to be winning games on flat pancakes.

Wasim
Imran
Marshall
Steyn/Waqar

McGrath has no business being on here. Yes, his average on flat wickets is excellent but he is not going to be running through teams on such wickets. This thread is a perfect example of why McGrath is so heavily overrated on here. Yes, he was an ATG but not one of the first names you pick on flat pancakes

Steyn easily

I haven't seen someone destroying a world class line up so effortlessly in a flat roads like he did against india in 2010
