Their are many pacers around the world that swing or seam the ball. Their are some like Philander and Asif that can pretty much move it on any surface. However, their are a few like Amir and BK that require helpful conditions.

In your view, which pacer can move the ball the most and on any surface. My bet is with Philander. The guy can get seam movement from most surfaces.

The thread is interesting for the one kind of movement that it ignores: Bounce. I remember watching a Glenn McGrath instructional some time ago and he couldn't stress enough how it important it was to get the ball to rear up. It is taken for granted in many respects, and when someone like Hasan comes along it is assumed by some that he will do poorly because he lacks height. But how much do we hear about the art of extracting bounce?

Anderson. Can get movement in air and off pitch both ways more consistently than anyone on all pitches.

It is a different matter that that movement doesn't translate into wickets so well on flat decks, but still keeps batsmen honest with his movement.

I also fear you loose sight of so much of what makes Philander, and other good seam bowlers, good, when you talk about movement this way. It is not always about extravagant movement, we can see how useless that was for Riaz in England for instance, when all his reverse swing managed to achieve was to beat the edge of the bat over and over again. In some respect, this is also why some rate Wasim higher than McGrath. Yes Wasim could get it to move more than McGrath, but did not clearly make him a better bowler.

In helpful conditions Anderson, Bhuvi, Praveen Kumar extract a lot of swing and seam..

Asif was good at moving the ball right amount , just a little big to take edge , too much movement does not always bother batsman , its just a little bit one .

Depends if the thread is about lateral movement in the air, movement off the seam, or exaggerated bounce when it kicks/stops a little. All this being challenging due to a reasonable amount of pace. I think philander on subcontinent might not be so effective but I do remember him doing ok in Sri Lanka. Steyn possibly but on a consistent basis Broad does all three. Listening to commentary of him bowling in UAE it was clear that while there was no swing or seam lateral movement he was getting it to stick in the pitch which made him harder to deal with than Anderson but that was in 2012.

I’m really impressed with BK AND MOHD shami too.

Anderson in terms of movement in the air from the current crop of bowlers. Bond from the ones I've seen in person.

Always been wary about Andersons movement, especially after Wasims influence in Lancashire. Bottle tops any one:P

Shane Bond in some champions trophy swung the most i have seen anyone did. Don't remember what CT was it. If i had to guess, it was his last one.

Most consistent swing bowler is Boult, any ball, any condition.

Most prodigious movement is Amir when he clicks. There's no one that puts more curve or swings the ball later.

Philander will get the ball to seam if it is possible to seam.

wasim could do anything you could expect (and some you dont expect) with the ball.. conditions, pitch quality out of the equation. he was just that good.. in terms of bounce, Marshall, did not have that much height but he could extract the spitting venomous bounce.

i guess the OP is asking about who could "seam" the ball the most. because thats what seam is, off the surface. i have to say Imran, Wasim, Kapil Dev, McGrath, Gillespie, Hadlee all fit that bill.

Amir isn't what he used to be 8-9 years ago and now he doesn't even look to be too interested in the game either.

As for Boult he's one guy who can do so in any conditions.
