We recently announced our champions trophy squad . There was a lot of disappointment with the squad selection. There were obviously some good selections but those selections were obvious picks.

I want to know which selections disappointed you the most.

The players selections I were disappointed were:

Azhar
Hafeez
Wahab
Fahim Ashraf (he won't play and Yamin outperformed him in the Pakistan cup).

How about you guys?

Azhar for me - if he was going to be selected - why was he dropped in the first place?

Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad

Dropping of kamran akmal was not right,

Azhar, Shehzad, Fahim (nothing against him but had to be Yamin), Junaid. Not an inclusion but Haris' exclusion really disappointed me

Umar Akmal,Wahab Riaz and Azhar Ali.
Sohail Khan's exclusion made me extremely sad given that he was the best bowler in the recent Pakistan's Tour of England. Also it is not fair to drop Kamran Akmal after 3 matches as he was making a comeback in the team after a long time you gotta give him some time...

Umar akmal only. He has nothing but bad omen on pakistan.

Azhar will provide the stability in the team as it is an ODI not T20. He just need to improve his SR.

Fahim showed in Pakistan Cup that he can be usefull allrounder.

Anyone saying Umar Akmal is speaking due to bias or non-cricketing reasons. Umar Akmal is a decent selection and I'm glad he is included. How many players do we have with his average and SR?

Azhar definitely. It was always on the cards though... someone who can bat 50 overs if needed and give stability in English conditions without consideration of strike rate..lack of faith in the calibre of our batting line up or a negative mind set by selectors???

It's almost fair enough if you have 4/5 quality batsmen who can go at 110+ strike rate for the majority of the innings around him which I'm not sure we have unfortunately.

Azhar Ali. But it seems his hundred/other okish scores last year in England played for him.

There is no way we were going to drop Shehzad or Junaid for totally unknowns

I didn't like the combination - listing individuals isn't fair, because the players are already selected. IND also selected some declining seniors, but their team isn't a squire peg in round hole.

I would have picked Amin, Haris & dropped one of Wahab or JK.

Wanted an aggressive selection, who have the ability with the bat to score at at SR of 90+. Only people capable are Malik, Sarf, Babar. Even if Manzoor was included, I wouldn't have minded. Just not the same old drab in Shehzad. Same goes for Akmal to an extent but he's the only 'explosive' batsman in the squad. I count Malik to be explosive too however.

Junaid Khan has a SR of over 90 - in bowling. Would've replaced him. Fahim for Aamer Yamin as performances suggest.

Only a few changes needed to happen to create a better balance, a competitive balance.

Azhar Ali, closely followed by Wahab Riaz.

Shehzad, Hafeez were expected. As was Junaid, as he's actually fared much better than Wahab in recent times (can atleast pick up wickets up front). Fahim is untested so not exactly a disappointment, though I'd obviously rather have Yamin.

Umar is not a bad pick considering he's fit, he's a big match player and he serves as a good backup WK. He can be an asset if he opens but alas, that will never happen. But I'd rather see Umar at #6 then say someone like Sarfraz or even Malik at #6 because he can go big when required. Ideally I'd have Yamin/Imad there but since that's not happening, I don't mind Umar (unless we play 3 all-rounders with Fahim at #8, but I doubt that's happening).

The fact that we try to implement ad hoc/patch up policies RIGHT BEFORE a big tournament rather than planning for it well beforehand.

If only our selection plans were in line with getting ready for the next big tournament, things would be much much better, and the selections would actually makes sense.

There is just way too much chopping and changing and cutting all based on recency bias that it's frustrating and almost impossible to build a squad of 11-13 set players.

The fact that whenever a thread goes up about selecting your Pakistan XI for the next series/tournament, PPers can literally come up with 15 different permutations of a playing XI...that tells you how "set" the core of your team, (in any format) actually is.

2013 CT we had Imran Farhat, Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik. All 3 flopped and we immediately kicked them out.

2017 CT, we have replaced the two with Azhar and Shehzad (Kamran hung around right before it mind you), and Malik is now being deemed our match winner player and our most set batsmen...we are totally relying on him to score vs India. The less said about Azhar and Shehzad in ODIs, the better. 4 years, gone nowhere.

In short, iss team se ab dil uchaat ho chuka hai.

"We are not going to England just to beat India but our prime target is to win the Champions Trophy"
Is more disappointing than his bias selection

Plenty of them, but nothing can top the diabolical decision of selecting Junaid.
