Arsenal on top of EPL standing right now and Liverpool are second. Both these teams are going to lock horn on Saturday at the fiery stadium of Anfield. Before this match both managers have shared their thoughts.

Mikel Arteta in a pre match presser said " It is going to be a special atmosphere for both teams and it is strong opposition. We will prepare to win it and go for it - it will be an intense match," Arteta told reporters.

"It is always great to be in the highest position in this league and we will try to maintain that, but we have to be intelligent to manage the game.

"Last time we beat them was a while ago and it was a good moment, which is something we can replicate tomorrow..."

Arteta also provided an injury update on his injured midfield trio, stating: "Thomas Partey is still finalising his rehab. He hasn't trained with the team yet.

"Mo Elneny hopefully will train with us today. Jorginho is still a doubt."

Klopp joked: "I love it the most when you are first and 55 points ahead! Then it is a pure joy!

"But it's all fine – I love it. It's how I said, we are in the position we are and it's not that bad. We play a super-strong team; we play a team that played an exceptional last season and coming back is even better than last season.

"Bringing in top players, they had already a top team, bringing in really good players to improve the team. They did that, went through the Champions League [group stage] pretty easily and played a really good Premier League campaign, so [it's] a massive game.

"It's great, great to have them, great to meet them. We met quite frequently, obviously, and it's good but we have to make sure we make it a proper home game, a proper Anfield experience. That's all I want."

Quizzed on the Gunners' title prospects this time around, Klopp replied: "I thought they looked like that last year, to be honest, then some results kicked in or whatever, I don't know exactly the reasons."

"That's what they are – and you bring in Rice and Havertz and that doesn't make you worse. Raya in goal doesn't make you worse. Mikel built exactly the team he wanted and they are difficult to play. They are a good mix between physicality, like big, strong players, fast, good technique, very good organisation, they are really well-coached, well-drilled. You can see every year they make another step. "

This will be the toughest game of the season for Arsenal.

Whilst there is still a long way to go to the end, a win at Anfield will set them up nicely for the future.

A loss here will be not do wonders for their self belief

For Liverpool, a win against Arsenal will do wonders to their PL title hopes

Either Arsenal make a title statement or another crumbling in a key game when pressure is on

@MenInG your prediction?

Sorry to Arsenal fans here. But I have a gut feeling that liverpool are going to win it owing to Arsenal follies.

I'll go with 2-1 to Arsenal as well. Hoping Rice and Saliba can make the difference this time compared to last season

Liverpool v Arsenal: Let's give Gunners 'proper Anfield experience', says Reds boss Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has encouraged his fans to give Arsenal the "proper Anfield experience" when they meet in the Premier League on Saturday.

After Wednesday's 5-1 win Carabao Cup quarter-final win over West Ham, Klopp said he was "not overly happy with with the atmosphere" during the game.

He also said that fans "not in the right shape" should give their ticket "to somebody else".

Speaking on Friday, he said: "I enjoyed 99.7% of each second in that stadium."

He continued: "I love it to bits. The atmosphere of these people. I am overly happy with everything.

"If we can do better then people show us, and I said something, and that's all. If people want to understand me right, I think it was possible. If not, I cannot change that now.

"I have nothing to say about the atmosphere now.

"I said we'd need Anfield on Saturday and that is 100% true. We have to make sure we make it a proper home game and a proper Anfield experience. That is all I want."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta likened the Anfield atmosphere to a "washing machine", describing it as an "unbelievable place to go".

His side led 2-0 there last season but ended up drawing 2-2, meaning it is now 11 years since the Gunners last won on Merseyside.

Amazon's 'All or Nothing' documentary also showed Arteta playing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' during training to prepare his players for the challenge in 2021 - but they were thrashed 4-0.

"It is different, different like Old Trafford," he said. "Old Trafford has a beautiful atmosphere as well and something that historically is an unbelievable place to go.

"There are a few in this country. The Emirates is one of them as well.

"I think I explained that sometimes when you don't feel at your best and you feel that they are on top of you and you cannot get out of that washing machine.

"You try to overcome those situations but that's a learning [lesson] - it happened once and it didn't happen again."

If either side win at Anfield they will be top at Christmas, with leaders Arsenal currently one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

A draw could see Aston Villa, who host Sheffield United on Friday, lead the way.

The team top of the table at Christmas has gone on to win the Premier League in six of the past 10 seasons.

"It is matchday 18. There are 20 games left after. We're not through it if we win. They are not through it if they win," said Klopp. "It's just a super important football game.

"I hadn't really thought about it, I couldn't really care less. I've only been thinking about this game not the rest of the season.

"There might be a moment, I don't know when, March or April maybe, where you think right, six-pointer, you win today and you are out of the way or whatever. That is a long way away and nobody thinks about it.

"They've really got my respect but I want the points anyway."

Arsenal's last win at Anfield came when Arteta was part of the Gunners' midfield.

The Spaniard has celebrated four years in charge this week and during that time he's picked up victories at Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

"We have done it at Old Trafford, we have done it at Stamford Bridge and many other places where we haven't done it for years," he said.

"This is the next challenge. Go there and win. If you want to be at the top you have to go to those places and be dominant. That's what we're going to try to do.

"The two teams are in a really good moment, really good position, really strong position. They are going to be well placed to win it and to go for it. It's going to be an intense match."

Arsenal chase history - best of the stats

Liverpool are unbeaten in their past 10 home Premier League games against Arsenal (W7 D3). The Reds have fallen behind in five of those games.

Arsenal have not kept a clean sheet in any of their past 15 Premier League matches against Liverpool, conceding 43 goals. Since the start of that run (a 0-0 draw in August 2015), that is the most they have let in against an opponent.

Liverpool drew 0-0 with Manchester United last Sunday, despite having 34 shots. This ended their run of scoring in 26 consecutive Premier League games, while they have not failed to score in consecutive home league games since February and March 2021 (a run of three).

Arsenal have won 24 of their 39 Premier League matches in 2023 (D8 L7). They won 25 in 2022 and are looking to win 25+ league games in consecutive calendar years for the first time in their history.

Could Arsenal's title challenge falter with defeat?

Arsenal last won the Premier League in 2003-04 but mounted a serious challenge last season, before Manchester City won their third title in a row.

Arteta's side were eight points clear at the start of April before falling away, and former City and Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown has concerns about the impact a defeat at Anfield might have.

"It is going to be a really interesting game," Brown told the BBC's Football News Show.

"Is it going to be one of those where if Arsenal lose it's title over? It's getting to that stage now where they have to stay right at the top and be in the mix.

"I still don't think they are as experienced as other sides - we saw it last season. It doesn't mean that they can't win it, it gets tougher obviously.

"Psychologically it will be a great boost for them if they can go and win this game. It will be tough but you can imagine the belief and momentum through the club and players if they win this game."

Tough to beat Liverpool in Anfield...so I am siding with Liverpool beating Arsenal.

Liverpool v Arsenal (17:30 GMT)

Ryan Gravenberch is on the bench for Liverpool after a suspected hamstring injury was diagnosed as just muscular fatigue.

Darwin Nunez, who also started last weekend's draw with Manchester United, is among the substitutes while Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo come in to the starting line-up.

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Szoboszlai, Endo, Jones, Salah, Gakpo, Diaz.

Subs: Kelleher, Gomez, Nunez, Elliott, Gravenberch, Clark, McConnell, Quansah, Bradley.

Mikel Arteta decides to not make any changes to his Arsenal side who beat Brighton 2-0 last weekend.

Jorginho returns to fitness and is on the bench alongside Mohamed Elneny, who has recovered from a hamstring problem.

Arsenal XI: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Rice, Havertz, Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

Subs: Ramsdale, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Kiwior, Soares, Trossard, Jorginho, Reiss Nelson, Elneny.

Arsenal really need to bring someone on for Zichenko.

That performance by Zichenko has to be one of the worst individual performances I have seen in an Arsenal shirt for ages.

Reminded me of the crap players we used to have when we would just go to Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford to get slaughtered under Wenger

FT Score

Liverpool fc vs Arsenal fc ends in a 1-1 draw. Some good stuff from Arsenal kept liverpool at bay. Gunners will be happy from their performance as they will rein at top for one more week now.

Mohamed Salah strikes in Anfield draw with Arsenal

In an absorbing encounter, the Reds fell behind after four minutes of play when Gabriel directed a header from 10 yards out in from a set-piece into the box.

However, Mohamed Salah drew Jürgen Klopp’s side level before the half-hour when he collected a long pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right, burst beyond Oleksandr Zinchenko and fired an unerring finish into the net.

Alexander-Arnold struck the bar in the second half following a trademark Liverpool counter as the home team created the better of the chances after the break, but the Gunners held on to claim a point.

Liverpool made five changes from the midweek win over West Ham United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate returned in defence, with Alisson Becker restored in goal.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz and Salah were back in attack and Ryan Gravenberch was named among the substitutes.

First half

The teams emerged from the tunnel to an electrifying din inside Anfield – but Arsenal threatened a breakthrough inside 30 seconds.

Bukayo Saka’s low cross was scooped away by the glove of Alisson into the path of Gabriel Jesus on the edge of the box. His first-time return was deflected behind by Dominik Szoboszlai.

The resulting corner saw Gabriel’s near-post nod claimed by Alisson; however, the goalkeeper could not keep out the Arsenal No.6’s next effort two minutes later when he looped a header into the net from Martin Odegaard’s free-kick from the left.

Gabriel Jesus then powered a drive over, but Salah had an opening when Cody Gakpo’s flick dropped for him at the back post with 14 gone. His attempt, however, crashed into the side netting.

Liverpool were looking to build sustained pressure on their visitors’ defence, but a break saw Odegaard swipe a low shot well wide of Alisson’s post.

Then, with 29 minutes elapsed, the Reds levelled. Alexander-Arnold sprayed a sublime 60-yard pass in the direction of Salah’s run down the right. The Egyptian breezed beyond Zinchenko and into the box before finishing emphatically past David Raya.

The Reds were dealt a blow when Kostas Tsimikas was forced off with an injury issue after a collision with Saka on the touchline. Joe Gomez replaced him in the back four.

Liverpool were by now fully in the ascendancy, but they survived a scare when Gabriel Martinelli shot wide after Alisson had scooped the ball away from the feet of Saka, who had attempted to round him, leaving the scoreline level at halfway.

Second half

The hosts began the second period assertively and forced a series of mistakes from their counterparts.

Shortly after the restart, Endo pinched possession from Odegaard and played it to Jones, who in turn squared to Salah. Ben White was able to deflect his attempt wide.

Liverpool’s intensity levels were high. Salah next squared to Diaz across then area, but the No.7 could only scuff off target under pressure.

Then, on 54 minutes, Diaz’s flicked pass picked out Gomez’s run into the left-channel of the area. The defender cut back onto his right and curled agonisingly wide by a fraction with Raya beaten.

On the hour, Cody Gakpo chested a Virgil van Dijk pass off into the path of Szoboszlai 20 yards out, but he could only drag off target with a low shot.

A trio of changes were made by Klopp on 67 minutes. Diaz, withdrawn due to a knock, Gakpo and Jones made way for Harvey Elliott, Gravenberch and Darwin Nunez.

On 72 minutes, Alexander-Arnold was left clutching his head in his hands when a powerful 12-yard shot from Salah’s pass at the conclusion of a counter from an Arsenal corner smashed against the crossbar and bounced clear.

Gomez then had a strike beaten around the post by Raya and Nunez headed over at a corner as the Reds’ pressure continue.

As the contest entered a final pulsating 10 minutes of normal time, Konate blocked from Leandro Trossard before Kai Havertz skewed the rebound wide as Arsenal showcased their threat.

The final moments were frenetic, but the sides couldn’t be separated as the points were shared on Merseyside.

I feel Arsenal were superior at the end - should have won this.

Both sides missed lots of chance but you know what? I will take this draw and keep the pressure up on the rest for now.

Odegards handball was a clear penalty and trents late miss should have given Liverpool the three points

Lots of chances for both teams - fact is Liverpool messed it up in their own backyard.

Titles are won or lost in such key games.

The fact Liverpool got into that situation from an Arsenal corner, when it was 1-1 was a shambles defensively

Almost all experts are praising Arsenal for battling it out at Anfield.

Let's be proud of this team as Arsenal supporters.

I just made comment on that one incident, as you post a pic of it.

Yes it was well earned point with 10 men.

No doubt a high quality tactical battle. But as a neutral I do feel Edogard handball a defo penalty, and Trents very poor miss .

As for the Title, Arsenal definetly need a number 9 to strengthen their position. Remember last season what cost Arsenal was their shocking collapse against the likes of Southampton and Bournemouth rather than the top sides.
