We have to give credit to Windies. They are brilliantly using short pitch balls and outplayed Pakistan. Will be interesting to see how other teams will play them in this world cup? England, Australia or India?

Aussies are the best because they have hard bouncy wickets at home. So do South Africans. Traditionally these two teams are best at short stuff. Asian teams have never been as good because of flatter low bounce wickets at home.

What about India?

This current Indian side is exceptional at playing the short ball. Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli and Rahul are all players that relish the short ball.

They are ok, not that great to be honest. I remember a while back they had Raina who used to play in the middle order and he was pretty much like Imad Waseem when it came to short stuff. I don’t know much about their recent batsmen. Kohli is of course the number 1 in the world so he has to be good. Sharma and Dhawan are good as well, but don’t know much about the rest.

Our guys are fine with the short balls relatively but we just had a pretty bad day. I think the idea was to cut the risk so avoid playing pulls. But the the umpires just started making the weird decision of not calling hem wides when WI abused the short delivery. So they felt obligated to play them and made some bad shot selections. Fakhar was the only one who truly got beaten for pace. Hafeez looked like he was double minded whether to leave or play. He would have put that ball away for four or six more often than not.

We had a few bad outs down leg as well which is a sign that the batsmen were indecisive. I think you gotta play positive and if you see a ball that you can hit, just go for it.

Apart from Imad wasim, the batsmen we have are capable of handling short stuff and this score does not give a true representation of their skill. Sure it’s not as good as Australia, South Africa, etc but it’s not as bad either as our score today.

What about India?

Rohit Sharma, Pandya and even Rahul... are good at handling it (Rahul hit some sixes to Fiz in the practice game)! Especially Rohit will murder if its not bowled above 145km+ Also its not a surprise factor anymore now (Unfortunately Pakistan got this match first!) Indians and most teams would be prepared to handle it now... Any game including cricket is a cat & mouse game first of all... If opposition falls prey to a ploy then teams will continue to attack in the same way. If the same balls are belted for sixers, then the bowlers will lose the rhythm...

England are pretty good. Most of their bats have good technique where they get in line and keep the ball down when they hook or pull.

Not Pakistan

Australia. Ricky Ponting was so good at playing the hook and pull. It's coz of the pitches in Aus.

Definitely not Pakistan. So embarrasing for us though.
All the teams will have seen and observed our pathetic display against the shortball.
I expect them to bombard us with these in the upcoming matches

Rohit sharma is the best player of short ball currently. While dhawan ,kohli, kl rahul are quite good as well.

I have seen the best of the teams struggling against quality short pitch stuff. In our last tour to Australia, we had our quickies troubling Aussies throughout the series with short ball. Basically the top teams are much better at it.

Pakistan the way they played in South Africa and now here, are just timid. They are afraid of being hit and dont have a positive approach against that type of bowling.

No team is comfortable against short stuff but I think Aus, India might be better than others. For India more than short, the swing will trouble our openers.

Windies fast bowlers have given idea to other teams how to get batsmen out.

You have to get the ball up around the eye line to cause problem. BD's Soumya was murdering anything below head height, as soon as they got the ball to lift a bit higher the batsmen were top edging and chances created.

Bangladesh look very confident and brave against short pitch bowling today.

As a bowling line up this strategy can always backfire. You need to have a plan B when short pitch bowling starts leaking runs.

Australia not good against short ballls this is something INdia figured out in Australia. They took so many blows in the test.

People saying that aus/pak are horrible in playing short balls after seeing their performance against windies are really discrediting windies bowlers. Not all short balls are the same, some are absolute quality which every batsman will struggle against. As far as this world cup goes, windies have set the benchmark for quality fast bowling!

Full credit to them. Their bouncers are actual bouncers not short pitched balls. They have a lot of venom. England folded for 113 in WI. England tried the same bouncers. But Gayle pummelled them in return while chasing.

The return of the venomous windies fast bowling is great for cricket!
