What's new

Which team was better? WI of 1970s and early 80s or Aus team of late 90s and early 2000s..

WI never lost a Test Series b/w 1980---1995.

Aus lost Test series in 1996-ind, 1998-ind, 1999-SL, 2001-ind, 2005-Eng.

So, WI pf 80's is clearly the better team

Context matters. The reason WI didn't lost any series because back then drawing test matches was easier. I am sure if you look at the number of wins, Australia will be ahead.

ParwazHaiJunoon aus was goat between 1999 to 2007. They lost only 2 test series in this period, one in india 2001 & other in England 2005.

Hayden is not a ATG.

I never said he was, hence "The big difference is that guys who weren't great in the Australian side were very very good".

Hayden had his issues against lateral movement, his struggles in SA, Eng and NZ suggest that. But he was awesome in his conditions and Asia. Langer did the job in seaming conditions, I think he averaged 40 in each of SA, ENG and NZ. So they complemented each other well. On the other hand we either have good players that can combat most conditions or absolutely nothing cricketers. (Sorry for the late reply, been inactive for a while)

It wasnt easier Batters had better techniques and could grit it out and play time

Nowadays that art is lost of playing out time
