our unbeaten run in the uae is a matter of huge pride for pak cricket and a major achievement. but all good things come to an end and i feel that with the retirements of younis and misbah our unbeaten run in the uae might come to and end.

sarfraz is a positive captain but i am worried that he might over attack in tests. misbah got a lot of criticism for his defensive tactics but his safety first approach often prevented defeats. with sarfraz we might win more games but we will probably lose the matches that misbah converted into draws with his conservative strategies.

so which team will be able to conquer uae and end our unbeaten run?

aus - they have a good chance if they play like they did in ind last time but i don't think they have it in them

eng - they have lost 5 out of 6 tests in the uae but have played very well at times without the results for example abu dhabi 2015. like aus i don't see them having enough fire power to do the job

sa - the biggest contender. they have been superb already and could have done it already had they played more than 2 tests in 2010 and 2013. they have lost 1 in 4 only and have the batting bowling and leadership of faf to make history

nz, sl and wi - poor teams

bangladesh - have potential but still not close to being a competitive test unit. they lack experience.

india - theoretically the most likely team because they are brilliant in asia and will not be troubled at all by the uae conditions but since they don't want to play with us we can safely rule them out

so in your opinion who will finally pull it off and when do you expect it to happen? do you think the fans and the players will feel demoralized or will be proud of the fact that the record lasted for more than 10 years?

If India were to tour UAE, we should break this record and beat Pakistan in UAE

Among others, I feel South Africa & Bangladesh have the best chance to break this record

Obviously fans will feel proud if the record lasts long. No one wants to lose their fortress. I hate it if someone beats India in India in a test match

2017-Srilanka
2018-Aus and NZ
2019-Wi
2020-England
So no one in this decade

India probably would have broken it by now or would do it soon.

SA would have beaten us in 2013 if there was a 3rd test. We were extremely lucky to get a 1-1 draw.

Bigger question is when will we FINALLY start beating teams at home consistently. We keep drawing series while teams like Ind and Aus are dominant at home and win most series (which is why they are higher in rankings).

In last few years, our UAE results are:

2013 vs SA: Draw 1-1
2014 vs NZ: Draw 1-1
2014 vs Aus: Win 2-0
2014/15 vs SL: Draw 1-1
2016 vs Eng: Win 2-0
2016 vs WI: Win 2-1

Overall, pretty disappointing that we could not beat SA and even likes of SL and NZ in our supposed "fortress". We even lost a test to WI and came very close to losing that series too (in the day night test). Need to become a dominant WINNING team at home instead of regularly losing home tests.

A captains role also plays a big part aswell.

UAE is all about patience. I remember threads on this forum where poster would be crying that the game is going no where, and right on the 4th and 5th day we saw things happen.

Conditions in UAE are nothing like in India.

Indian spinners would suffer in UAE (at least until the 3rd day). Plus Azhar, Shafiq, Sarfraz and Azam can play spin well.

The only team that I see winning in UAE are SA :steyn

I can't see any team beating us in UAE for the time being. We will struggle initially due to no YK or Misbah but luckily our first test series without them is against SL in UAE who, with all due respect, are not the greatest team atm. I think this will be ideal series for YK and Misbah's replacements to get some runs and become confident. Then we go to England in early May next year which will be difficult but a very good experience especially for their replacements. I don't think it will take a long time for us to recover from them 2 leaving runs wise, it's their presence and experience that we will miss and I think we will be fairly settled by 2018 when Australia and NZ visit us in UAE. Australia are going through tough times re pay dispute etc and they aren't good against spin. NZ have been going downhill recently I think it will be a very long time before we lose a series in UAE

SA were the closest to beat us last time in the UAE, they've got the players and self belief to beat any team anywhere. They've got too many quality players in their side.

UAE and Indian conditions aren't the same. Don't know why people think we wouldn't be able to compete really well with them in the UAE.

Indian pitches offer help from the first session; matches in the UAE change during the last 6 sessions or so.

I think, from next rounds every touring team will be much more competitive in UAE.

One reason being the retirement of YK in particular, but I think most teams (opponents of PAK) played in UAE underprepared. AUS, SAF, NZ & WI toured UAE in OCT-NOV, just at the start of their summer while Poms visited there in Nov-Dec - after couple of months at the end of County season and these teams played 1st Test within few days of landing there, after playing one 3 day match, which is not even FC status (all 16 plays - 11 to bat & 11 to field). This actually taught teams off guard at the start of the series.

If I see the tours in last few years - SAF, NZ, WI lost first 1/2 Tests and almost always had won the last Test. Aussies played only 2 Tests, while SRL is the only team that actually competed in earlier Tests, because they also come from similar condition. I am sure, next time AUS, ENG & SAF will tour UAE with lot better prepared- may be after playing a short series in BD, SRL or AFG (IND). It won't be that easy from next rounds!!!! Sadly, WI & NZ has depleted too much to make up, otherwise last time, Kiwis did win the 3rd Test batting once after PAK winning the 1st one at the cost of 3 wickets in total.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry will make predictions in this thread and then claim otherwise, with clever semantics when things won't go their way in the coming decade. As far as I am concerned it's better to just shut up and see how a team performs rather than going and making tall claims such as XYZ will most likely beat team ABC etc etc.

Just not too long ago a lot of 'seniors' were made to look like proper fools and a bunch of amateur arm chair critics when we hammered our way to the CT championships. Be quiet and see how things unfold.

id say India has best chance now YK and Misbah are gone. But they never play us.

out of the rest of the teams maybe SA can.

But rest of the teams shouldnt trouble us.

Aus will do better though when they tour next year i feel.

Were much better in India on some rank turners so will do better on less abrasive tracks of UAE.

Could be a close series.

in a 3 test series bangla boys might win one. would be a good series.

much better than playing SL NZ or WI.

bhai we need to be releastic. the unbeaten run in the uae will not last forever. it is just a thread to speculate which team is most likely to breach our fortress and when it is likely to happen. no need of getting upset!

I personally think we have more chances of losing in UAE now than overseas.
We dont have Younis Khan anymore now who was the master of spin. Current crop like Azhar, Babar, Haris, Usman are good players of fast bowling so a win in Aus/SA is around the corner but a UAE loss too.

Pretty terrible record I must say.

Drawing against NZ and SL at home? Seriously? Pakistan should try to improve their performance in UAE and try to be much more dominant.

Lol at Australia, they got hammered last time they visited and will probably be again. They are terrible at coping against spin in Asia.
You didn't watch the Aus in India series?

The only teams I see completing the feat are India and South Africa. Indias supposed superstars will fail but someone like Pujara firing would be the deciding factor as no one else has the patience for UAE pitches. Australia can play spin now but they lack the patience while SA doesn't have anymore standout performers but they are very good at 'gritty slow' play.

However, keep in mind SL and NZ wee the closest to bearingus in the UAE back in 2014

How long is India's unbeaten streak at home?

I seem to recall they 1-2 to England in 2012. Not sure if they have lost another test series at home since.

One game only.

After seeing how South Africa have struggled against spin recently, in the India tour and at Lord's (against Moeen Ali of all people), I'm not sure whether they'd be the biggest threat but they do have a good spinner in Maharaj who can make use of the conditions.

India would be likeliest candidate but that series isn't happening any time soon.

India hasn't lost a series since then and only lost 1 match after that.

Usually it is Pakistan which defeats itself in UAE. E.g. 2nd test vs SA, vs West Indies, games that shouldn't have been lost, or at least not lost in such fashion.

But I think it will be India if they tour because despite myths and legends we are not that great vs spin especially since Younis is gone and only Sarfraz is left.

If India don't end up touring then I think it will be England.

LOL at people saying South Africa. With players like Bavuma, Elgar, Kuhn, C Morris, this team would not even compete Bangladesh let alone Pakistan.

On topic, India is only team at present looks strong enough to challenge Pakistan in UAE. I really wish series could take place so we could find out. I would say 50-50 chance specially after the retirement of Younis and Misbah.

Australia or SA considering India-pak don't play each other

Australia have a good chance of defeating us in the UAE. New Zealand also seem to give us a tough time at home, not the UAE.

Pak don't invite bd in UAE. India don't play Pak. SL is now poor. If Pak invite Afg then out of Asian teams they have chance to beat them. Amongst non Asian only Eng or sa has chance according to me.

Lol Afg don't have a snowball's chance of beating us in UAE.

Their players have lot of potentials and they could surprise you.

i love your prediction about PCT i still remember your legendary posts in CT start which was totally wrong

now again you have no idea what are you saying afghanistan have just month ago get a test status and

you think they will beat us which top sides could not do :salute:salute

Pakistanis getting too carried away. Sri Lanka will defeat Pakistan in October/November. Watch how Rangana Herath rips through our batting. No more Misbah and Younus to save Pakistan now

IMO, Even BD can beat us, due to the departure of MisYou, the team lacks toughness and experience, initially the team will suffer.

SM1989 Pak had Herath under control in 2015. Not to mention Herath even in his peak years 2009-2014 didnt really do anything in UAE.

Herath has been a great bowler for SL the best test spinner of the last decade for me.

But he wont cause our bats too much trouble.

Sarfraz Azhar n Asad will play him easily.

India hasn't lost a series since then and only lost 1 match after that.

Gotcha that is still a very fine run.

I believe the only match they lost at home after that was the defeat to Australia this year.

The only good series Herath had against Pakistan was when we toured them in 2014.

Other than that - he has been average and our batsman are easily able to pick him.

msb314 i remember that 2009 series when Herath made his intl comeback. He bamboozled our bats then. but in uae especially hes never been a huge threat.

India aren't going to play us anytime soon so no point in discussing them.

I reckon it would be Australia. They are mentally tough enough and MMHS has mentioned teams will be more ready for UAE conditions. I think they will adapt the best.

I'll go with Australia.

I don't think so because sarfraz is a captain i think can cope with pressure situations

Yes I remember that series.

But Murli and Dilhara Fernando also took many wickets and sparked several of our collapses back then.

msb314 Kulasekara was lethal in tbat 2009 series. i remember everytime the second new ball he would come in and pick up wickets while our bats would look hopeless against swing.

The pathetic choke at Galle when we were 71-2 overnight needing 168 to win. Butt n Moyo got out without a run being added slumped to 71-4. I woke up expecting seeing a Pak win and i see Pak 117-9 with Abdur Rauf batting. Herath won em that game.

N the game where Fawad got that century in the 3rd innings after we were bowled out cheap in the first innings. Fawad got out n then Younis played one of the worst shots ever to get out and we collapsed n lost.

Yeah I remember that.

Dark times indeed - IMO our batting lineup has been prone to collapsing ever since. We did not used to collapse like a deck of cards during the Woolmer era...

Windies and SA earned those wins. Pakistan did not self destruct.

It was a shambolic performance vs SA the way we meekly surrendered to Tahir for 99 in the first innings, same guy who few matches ago was slaughtered in Australia.

Yes he was bowling in favorable conditions, but for a team that prides UAE as its fortress that was a pathetic performance and took the game from us.

So credit to SA? SA went on to post 500+ with ease and batted Pakistan out of the game. Then continued their dominance with the seamers in the second innings.

we would certainly have lost if there would have been a third test vs sa in 2013

Credit to SA But you can't say we didn't play a role in our own demise with that minnow-esque batting display.

since misbah and younus are gone
this unbeaten streak in test at UAE can be demolish any time

this year we are facing srilanka
may be next year when australia tour to uae

SA's been the best touring team for a while now. Unless current struggles in England will continue toward a downward decline [they did beat Australia in Australia, even with a first pink ball match].

A declining Amla, no AB, declining and injured Steyn, the absence of a batting all rounder, lack of options for second opener, lack of consistency/clarity over QDK's role...

Suddenly, they sound a bit like Pakistan.

India would likely beat Pakistan in UAE with better spinner attack, worlds above batting line-up, and genuinely world class seamers.

Doesn't feel like a fortress anymore since we lost a match to WI, drew to SA and NZ in series, and the SL drawn series we nearly even lost that one. Seems like a matter of time before we lose, especially with YK and Misbah gone. Particularly it seems touring batsmen are doing better in UAE against us of late.

SL and India have the best chances, but of course it won't be India as they likely won't be touring UAE for at least a decade. So SL I guess, they did come close last time. SA don't look the force they used to be, bowling still looks top notch even with Steyn nearing retirement, but batting looks shakier than it's ever been.

India probably would have broken it by now or would do it soon.

i think it would be vice a versa as well. I feel Misbahs team would have easily white washed India in India especially when team is all about trundlers. After Misbah and Younis India do have a fair chance

we would certainly have lost if there would have been a third test vs sa in 2013

What makes you say that? That series was tied 1-1. If anything I think the third test would have been a great fight between the two sides. Downside of two test match series.

I Just wold never wanted PAK to play any series in uae after SriLanka one All Should be in Pakistan.

sa were the best team in the world at that time and they were getting better and better as the series progressed.

their batsmen and bowlers failed to adapt in the first innings of the first test which cost them the game but they made us sweat for a chase of 40 runs in the fourth innings.

in the second test they completely outclassed us and the bowlers had found the right length by that point and the batsmen had adjusted to the conditions.

if there would have been a third test sa would have been firm favorites

All this is hypothetical still, same could be true with Pakistan. They could have learned from their mistakes in the 2nd test match and could have put in a clinical performance to beat South Africa.

South Africa was a good side, no doubt, remember this was the same time period we had knocked the former number one side in the world, by beating them 3-0.

Wish that series did have a 3rd test.

Fortress under attack at the moment.

Pakistan have failed to read the conditions, picking 3 seamers could prove to be a Test losing error. SL showing more grit and application than anyone expected - they've won all the sessions since the morning on the first day.

I don't know about the series but I have a bad feeling about our chances in this test.

there is no attack. abu dhabi is a road for the first 4 days so pakistan will put up a huge score as well. the only way a result can be forced on this pitch is if we put pressure on sri lanka on day 5 with yasir when the pitch breaks up.

basically a repeat of the abu dhabi test in 2015 where bad light saved us.

Its a new batting lineup though, no Younis or Misbah to attack the spinners. First time Babar and Haris are playing Herath in Tests.

And we've messed up big time playing 3 seamers so no second spinner to take advantage of deteriorating wicket in 3rd innings.

Chandimal has played Yasir well too. We MUST be on parity with Sri Lanka's 1st innings score.

Srilanka will win this test but we will thrash them in the next one. We r more accustomed to pink ball test.

Told you so. Do not underestimate Rangana Herath's ability to single handedly defeat pakistan
