There have been a number of legendary and brilliant captains throughout the history of cricket. Which 2 captains would you have loved to see face off against each other? Maybe it's to do with their respective leadership styles, or the brand of cricket and fight which they instilled into their sides.

For a starting point, these are the 10 players who have captained the most international matches (in order):

1. MS Dhoni
2. Ricky Ponting
3. Stephen Fleming
4. Graeme Smith
5. Allan Border
6. Arjuna Ranatunga
7. Mohammad Azharuddin
8. Virat Kohli
9. Sourav Ganguly
10. Hansie Cronje

Discuss.

Imran Khan vs Virat Kohli :) Now that would be interesting.

Steve Waugh vs Virat Kohli, don't think either would have stepped back from a confrontation. It would have gotten ugly very quickly.

1. Imran Khan vs MS Dhoni - for the calm and steely demeanor of two charismatic captains.

2. Ricky Ponting vs Virat Kohli - to see who blows his fuse first.

3. Ian Chappell vs Geoffrey Boycott - just to see the fun because Chappelli simply didn't rate Boycott as a player.

4. Ganguly vs Arjuna - Two fiery egomaniac captains.

5. Cronje vs Azharuddin - on who would've bet on his side to lose more.

Imran Khan vs. Virat Kohli.

Two very similar personalities who were/are known for being aggressive and 'in-your-face'. Could have led to some fun, popcorn entertainment and likely wouldn't have been boring which is something I see happening with the other options.

Imran vs Dhoni (in their prime) with both sides having great players to balance the teams, could be a great contest.

Even though we all know that Dhoni or any other captain, does not a chance against Imran’s charisma when he was in prime.

Clive Lloyd vs Steve Waugh (I rate Waugh a better captain than Ponting)

I would also like to see Michael Clarke captaining the 2000s Aus side.

Stephen Fleming (captaining the current NZ side preferebly) vs Michael Clarke would a great battle of tactics.

Didn't Cronje and Azharuddin play each other as captains of respective sides back in the day already?

From a aussie perspective I would like to see I Chappell v R Ponting. Chappell's mouth would not be able to save him.

Imran would win in Test cricket and Dhoni in ODI/T20 cricket.
