Best series wins ever by Clive Lloyd's West Indies xi. ranked in order of merit.Assessing the best performance by a West Indies team in a test series under Clive Lloyd.

1.2-0 win in Australia in 1979-80
2.3-0 win in India in 1983-84
3.5-0 win in England in 1984
4.1-0 win in Pakistan in 1980

1.I still rate the 1979-80 Frank Worrell trophy win at the very top.It conquered an Australian side that had just vanquished England by a 3-0 margin in a 3 test series. It made a truly great side look pedestal in 2 tests and simply put West Indies on another pedestal.Inspite of having the Chappel brothers,Border,Hughes ,Lillee and Thomson the Aussies proved no match for the calypsos.THe West Indian pace battery ripped the flesh out of their opponents while Viv Richards blazed away with the bat.Abject revenge for the 5-1 defeat in 1975-76 taking agression sand pirit of vengeance to its supreme zenith.Defined the new epoch and spirit of Carribean cricket more than anyone .

2.I place the 3-0 triumph in India in 1983-84 at 2nd place because India are very hard to beat at home and had arguably the best batting line up in the world. The Calypsos simply bruised and battered the Indians like a military battalion inflicting a huge defeat on the enemy. No team had ever beaten India so convincingly in later years on home soil be it England or Pakistan.

3.The 5-0 vanquishing of England in 1984 is also right up there. The opposition was not at it's best but were destroyed like grass being mowed down .West Indies looked like an invincible army annexing territory after territory.

4.Only won 1 test in Pakistan but achieved the near impossible of beating Pakistan on their own soil .Pakistan were virtually invincible at home but the likes of Viv Richards took them to the sword as well as Sylvester Clarke and Malcolm Marshall.

I feel it conquered relatively weaker Australian teams in 1984-85 at home and away and the margin in 1976 in England was closer than the 3-0 verdict.

3-0 in India for me, in the fast bowler’s graveyard.

Or the 5-0 in WI against England- the visitors were not in the game for one single session.

The side they whitewashed in 1984 was pretty weak - no Gooch, Willey, Lever, Old, Hendrick and a clapped-out Willis. But it still competed at times and was in a position to win at Lord’s before Greenidge went into orbit.

I'll alter 1 & 2, and PAK 1980 comes 3rd. There are so many for the 4th spot, but instead of ENG, I think, I'll take the 1976 win over Mushtaq's PAK.

1983-84 IND probably had their best ever batting line-up against pace, and they were soundly beaten at home. Those days, Test cricket wasn't standardized like now with 450 overs and make up time; otherwise that Series could have ended 4-1 or 5-1; still WIN won 3-0 with 2 innings defeats.

1979 was Viv's series - I wrote it somewhere, in the history of the game I don't think any batsman ever had been so dominant against a top quality attack at their home. For few years either side of 1980, PAK was genuinely among top 3 teams around and beating them in PAK with like 300 overs playing time in total was a tremendous achievement.
