Man who is doing Asif's PR these days lol.

He's been mentioned on a couple of test broadcasts now and I keep seeing quotes of him from the kamran akmal video.

On a serious note, at the time of the bans I thought Amir was biggest loss. But Asif would have definitely gotten us some historic test wins!

On this Day 5th February:

The ICC banned Pakistan's Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif after a tribunal found them guilty of spot-fixing during the Lord's Test in 2010. The sanctions against Butt (ten years) and Asif (seven) had five and two years suspended; Amir received a five-year sentence. All three appealed the bans. In November 2011 a London court handed jail terms to the three: Butt was sentenced to two years and six months, Asif one year, and Amir six months.

How much time these three players actually served in UK jail? I thought ban from playing was only punishment they got.

Each of these been discussed on PP recently so time to ask this question again.

Asif was the biggest lost, Amir has been replaced already by Shaheen. Butt is not missed because our top order is in better shape then it use to be.

Asif was an IQ bowler like Mcgrath, you wont find many magicians like that in Pakistan, plenty with raw pace and physical attributes though

1. Asif 2. Butt 3. Amir was nothing special would be found out in 2-3 years

If PCB has any brain they should put Asif as bowling coach for main team if not U19 team.

In respect of the 2011 World Cup, I would say Salman Butt. His batting was on the ascendency and he was a good captain with a decent cricketing brain.

Overall, Asif was the biggest loss. Pakistan haven't produced a bowler of his quality since Wasim Akram. Asif would have exceeded the achievements of Waqar had he played 80-100 tests.

Asif by a fair distance just because of the kind of bowler he was. Followed by Amir.

Butt not even worthy of consideration. Probably benefited our team to lose him. Imagine he would have hung around like a lingering **** for years, hogging that opening spot with mediocre performances.

Asif had lot to deliver which we lost. Amir is emerging at that time and Salman would not be better what he was at that time.

In November 2011 a London court handed jail terms to the three: Butt was sentenced to two years and six months, Asif one year, and Amir six months. The player agent Mazhar Majeed, who was caught on tape discussing the no-balls to be bowled in the Test, was sentenced to two years and eight months. In early 2012, Amir was released after spending three months in the Portland Young Offenders Institution. In January 2015, he signed to play grade two cricket for a Karachi-based team after the ICC permitted him to play domestic cricket under the auspices of the PCB, eight months before the scheduled end of his ban. A year later he was playing for Pakistan once again, while Butt and Asif returned to domestic cricket.
