As a Pakistani fan, the Champion's Trophy was surreal. They are so many takes out there about the reasons for this turnaround. My question however, is about emotional aspect of it: What was the most emotionally draining match of the Champion's Trophy? I am sure the performance in the final was a catharsis for some.

But for me, as a Pakistani fan, the most emotionally draining match of the CT was Pakistan vs Sri Lanka. I have my reasons which I will elaborate on when the thread progresses.

Which match was yours? ‎

Bangladesh game, most of their fans start acting like they won the actual Champions Trophy when Pakistan was 9 down...

SA game

I was nervous we wouldnt be able to chase it down

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka. Had an exam in the morning and then in the afternoon so couldn't follow the start of the game. My exam wasn't good then checked the score we were cruising to victory then we collapsed but I had a feeling we would still win. When Ashraf got out though I more or less gave up but then Amir and Sarfraz pulled it off

Final.Never have I wanted to win a match more I stayed uneasy till Jadeja got out.

I went to every Pakistan game in the Champions Trophy. I lived and breathed every moment of our campaign. Almost every game was draining apart from the England one which was a thrashing, as was the final but the feeling of ecstasy, euphoria, and ultimate satisfaction was quite draining and mind numbing.

The first India game was quite an experience, I've only been to 2 Pakistan games before, both losses against India in Karachi in 2004 and 2006. Those were Pakistani home crowds I had never seen an Indian crowd in full force before, the IPL has really trained them how to support their team.

I was sitting with 2 other Pakistani friends and was surrounded by a group of 60 Indians who had flown in from Washington D.C for the game. After every ball they would all look at us and a few would pass a comment, some would mock us, others would try to be witty. The most emotionally draining moments were the dropped catches off Kohli and Yuvraj as well as the Malik runout, but in particular the 3 consecutive sixes Pandya hit off Imad. We walked out after our 8th wicket fell and were surprised to receive a gracious guard of honour from them. We did suffer from PTSD the next day.

The South Africa game was quite draining too. We stuck around to see if play would restart but I kept praying it wouldn't because our middle order looked very fragile and ripe for a collapse. The Sri Lanka game was the most competitive and by far the most tense once we collapsed. For the viewers on television it was probably the most emotionally draining, however nothing compared to the first India game for the crowd at least. We were scared another batting collapse was possible against England but we smacked the daylights out of them.

In the final the menacing Indian crowd was back but thankfully a lot more Pakistanis turned up for this one. This time the Indians were a lot more hostile as were some of the English fans who were siding with India. Azhar's self-induced run-out and the Kohli drop by Azhar were excruciatingly draining moments and the Indians celebrated as if they had won the cup both times. But the wild celebrations from us that followed as the match went on sent my friends and I into a daze it was by far one of the most euphoric and satisfying moments of my life.

We absolutely bashed the Indian crowd and they just ran away some didn't even return for the 2nd innings, which was pathetic. There were so many emotions and so much adrenaline being pumped I felt absolutely drained. As a member of the crowd I found both the India games a lot more emotionally draining than the Srl Lanka game even though it was the most competitive.

Sri Lanka game - really lost my temper in that shambolic run chase.

Thank you Tissara Perera.

I tell u a funny story at about 165/7 I went shopping,in the thought of a loss

Came back they needed only 32 and as soon as I came that total of 32 was whisked off in no time

Most emotionally draining was the first match

Final.Never have I wanted to win a match more I stayed uneasy till Jadeja got out.

I stayed uneasy till they lifted the cup

Even after they won I thought the ICC wouldn't give them the trophy

For me the sri lankan game, i had work that day, and i kept reading the score on cricinfo, and i looked un easy some people at work thought i was sick, or something serious was happening in my life lol, im shocked i didnt get fired that day, i was not doing by work properly but could not help it, when pakistan finally won their was a sigh of relief, and a tear of joy, im sure if i watched the match it self it would be more tense. Before the india match i was stress and praying alot, but when the no-ball happened i just felt that was a sign from above, that it would be pakistan day, and when they posted 338, i already knew it was game set match lol, so i was not as stress.

The Pakistan versus Sri Lanka match.

Roller-coaster of emotions and a game that Pakistan clawed back from the jaws of defeat.

I had a Sri Lankan journalist sat next to me in the press box and the poor guy was nearly in tears when Sarfraz's simple catch was dropped.

Pakistan v Lanka, after the India defeat I repeatedly predicted that they would be our toughest opponents in the competition.

India were an anomaly in the group game defeat.

When it comes to SA you basically just show up and make sure you wake up on time and brush your teeth etc

Lanka were going to be our toughest opponents for me and I felt that way prior to their win over India, both teams are similar in nature and it would all come down to who manages to handle the pressure better; in this games neither teams were able to but Pakistan managed to cross the line.

Cricket is all about momentum, confidence and mental strength during Tournaments, especially when it comes to Pakistan and in these facets the team is far superior to England so our talent was able to truly peak and showcase their ability at its very best.

I was actually a lot more nervous prior to the game against Lanka then the India final, we had peaked at the right time and our talent proved they belong whilst returning the faith invested in them by a long rope and adequate support from selectors and management. They were terrible against India in the group game but even at their worst, Pakistan are not that awful ! we had a decent crop which just needed to be utilised better and a little more self belief.

It was a blessing in disguise because in a way the group defeat took a lot of pressure of the team given how they advocated the low expectations rhetoric as well which was executed marvellously by the coach's.

Pakistan vs India(group match)

I was heartbroken after the humiliating defeat, I couldn't bear any defeat to India without any resistance from PCT. I didn't talk to anyone next day, it was a very sad day for me.

First match vs India, I watched every ball and saw our attack decimated, the Roza lagraha was insane in that game, hard to not curse the way we bowled, then Amir and Wahab got injured and Pandya took out Imad for 3 sixes last over... on top of that both batsmen were dropped before

What made my blood boil even further was how Azhar and Hafeez batted...

Me and my dad are real passionate about cricket and my father in law was making fun of the team..

'I asked my dad what mistakes did I make in my life that I witnessed such a horrible display from our team' - this was during the dot balls galore I saw from Azhar and Hafeez while we chased... it made me sick

At that time I thought our cricket and batting was so redudant, that it doesn't even deserve to be called a cricketing team, maybe just call it Tailenders XI..

top post. Glad you got to give it back to those Indian fans...must've been a great feeling being there and witnessing the carnage handed to their team.

Thanks! The arrogance of Indian fans was appalling, they thought their team could chase down anything even a 400/500 score and this wasn't even a few of them but 90% of the one's around me. Even the English fans were siding with the Indians and one of them tried to mock us calling us fixers.

But once Amir got going I tore them all a new one. I have never exhibited such nationalistic patriotism before and I have never been as rude and sarcastic as I was that day. The English fan who called us fixers apologised to me, congratulated me and promised he would never say anything to Pakistan again and even turned on the Indians and started praising Pakistan. A lot of Indians apologised for being so arrogant and congratulated my friends and I. But I don't want to stereotype all the Indians and English, a small minority were very polite, level-headed and in tune with reality from the beginning of the match.

Most of the participants are considering SLvsPak was the most emotional drainaged match but however we were confident about winning the game even before the game although there were few crucial mements when we were about to loose but that was just for a while however I consider IndvsPak match during group stages was the most emotional and mentally drainaged match. Within ourself every Pakistani wants to defeat India and gain some redemption however that didn't happen but when we are about to face India again in the final I was very calm and expecting this time we might jinx it and lift the cup.

The Sri Lanka game easily I remember walking up early watching the match even though I had to go to high school that day, I didn't want to skip that day of high-school because exams were approaching and I decided I rather skip the day we play England in Semi's. I just knew we were going to beat SL.

So we bowl well alright 235 seems fairly chase able and then I watch the first 10 or so overs before I have to run off and we were cruising away at the time at 70/0. Then I check the scorecard and we are just collapsing every time I check another wicket seems to fall.

All these bad thoughts running through my mind every time I check the scorecard it seems like another wicket is fall then with Amir and Sarfraz at the crease I knew we had a chance if Amir just kept ticking it around, I also posted this in the match thread. I was glued to the scorecard at that point and we just pulled it off!

What a sigh of relief it was such an emotional match even following the ending on a scorecard was intense.

It was Lankan game for me. I was at work so missed the game but remember checking the score and being a nervous wreck. I was furious when it looked like we bottled the chase. But then the closer Sarfaraz and Amir got to the target, the more confident I became of victory.

Definitely a momentum turner in the tournament.

Pakistan vs SL. All my emotions went at 130-6 and had no emotions to celebrate with the win. Funny that :))

For me it was definitely the final because I grew up not being used to beating India in a cricket game since Mohali 2011 was my first Ind vs Pak game. I was so happy that we thrashed India and registered the greatest victory margin in an Ind vs Pak game. I was slightly relaxed for the Pak vs SL game as I was discussing the game with my SL friend who literally said Pak can win given Sarfraz stays there till the end. Thankfully he did and won us the game.
