Although the Calypsos were without the service of Viv Richards they were still overwhelming favourites and their defeat was reminiscent of David conquering Goliath.Still they came within the skin of their teeth to wining the 1st test which was the decider.Bad umpiring played a major role in the verdict favouring New Zealand

In 1979-80 India faced one of the strongest ever Pakistan sides who were man to man 2nd only to West Indies with their huge bating line up and resourceful attack.Plagued by injuries to Imran and dissension s within the team Pakistan were conquered by India largely due to the all-round efforts of Kapil Dev and the spin bowling skill of Dilip Doshi.

In 2005 England conquered arguably one of the 2-3 finest teams in the history of the game in the Ashes.Australia were virtually considered invincible with Ponting ,Warne and Mcgrath at their best.England harnesed their resources to perfection with one of the most balanced Attucks in recent times in Hoggrad,Jones,Flintoff and Harrison.All-round sklil of Flintoff and batting skill of Pieterson was also an important factor in England's triumph.

In 1995 Australia broke the unbeaten Jinx of West Indies not losing a test series since 1980 and at home since 1973.The loss of players like Viv Richards and Malcolm Marshal had a decisive role with the West Indies batting revealing vulnerability. The determination and superior organization of the Kangaroos won them the unofficial world test champion tag.Steve Waugh was the main architect of this historic achievement aided by Glen Mcgrath.

In 2001 India virtually ressurected itself from the grave in the 2nd test at Kolkata due to the record 376 run partnership of V.V.S Laxmna and Rahul Dravid, to reach the pinnacle of glory by winning the final test at Madras in a cliif hanger.India broke Australai's run after 16 consecutive victories and Australia seemed destined to continue with their wining wya still the dramatic reversal of plot at Kolkata.

In 1971 India won their 1st series ever in the Carribean largely to the exploits of Dilip Sardesai and Sunil Gavaskar with the bat and the wizardy of the spin quartet.

Sri Lanka defeating a talented but demoralized Pakistan team in 1995 on their soil marked anew epoch for SriLankan cricket.A talented bunch of individuals turned into a cohesive unit.

In 2000 South Africa became the 1st team since Pakistan in 1987 and 1st team outside the sub-continent since England in 1985 to win a test series in India.Demoralization in the Indian camp was a major factor .Neverthless we must give credit to the Proteas for exhibiting such great all-round sklil and temperament to achieve something even Australia did not,who were close to the best test team ever at that time.

In 1971 India made history by winning their first test series n Englsih soil against a powerful Englsih side led by Ray Illingworth. The crucible factor was the spin quartet that created the impact of an army battalion and foxed the Englishman with their wizardry.

Here are a few that come to mind:

- Zimbabwe beating Pakistan in Pakistan 1-0 in 1998
- England beating Pakistan in Pakistan 1-0 in 2000
- Australia failing to beat NZ 0-0 in Australia in 2000 (actually NZ nearly beat a strong Australian side)

Here are a few that come to mind:

- England beating Pakistan in Pakistan 1-0 in 2000
- Australia failing to beat NZ 0-0 in Australia in 2000 (actually NZ nearly beat a strong Australian side)

Virtually included the 1st one of Zimbabwe beating pakistan.Just could not verify it.Included England v Pak2000.

Except for number 16, none of these are "upsets" in any way. Most teams were more or less in the same league so there was always scope for competition.

An upset is a brand new SL team beating India in 1985.

Or Zimbabwe drawing vs Pakistan in 2013.

Or BD drawing vs England and Australia a couple of years ago.

Nothing else that you have listed counts as an upset.

Pakistan's historic test win against England at The Oval in 1954 was probably one of the greatest upsets ever. Pakistan had only just entered test cricket and the side was one with many bits and pieces players. England on the other hand were a formidable side with bowlers like Bedser and Statham who were considered two of the best in the world. Yet thanks to Fazal's remarkable performance, Pakistan not only won the game but also drew the series. That too on their first tour of England.

This is a good thread. However in recent times, if I have to add one to this, it will be:-

Aus vs SA 2016 in Aus.

SA winning that series without AB and Steyn and without Amla firing as well.
