Which World Cup elimination has been most painful for Pakistan this decade?

1) Pakistan played hard smart and tough cricket and only lost one Group stage match, topped the group and absolutely thrashed West Indies in Quarter Final but then Mohali defeat by 29 runs, ruined everything.
Misbah and Younis Khan partnership took that game away from us.
2011 ended in Mohali.

2) Pakistan lost opening two matches but ended up playing strong brand of cricket and won 4 straight matches including the tough one against South Africa. In Quarter Final they had Aussies 52/3 and Watson’s drop could have made 80/4. But Rahat Ali messed it up.
2015 Quarter Final defeat vs Aussies ended our World cup.

3) Played pathetic third class cricket initially and thumped by Windies India australia, won only 1 out of first 5 matches. However series of wins over South Africa Kiwiz and Afghanistan, gave them hope, but poor NRR became the reason of their downfall.
2019 World cup ended with England’s win over Kiwiz in Durham.

My Question is very simple which exit this decade was most painful.
How 3 world cup campaigns of this decade can be compared with 2003/07 campaigns. Did our team do justice to their talent in 2011/15/19.

i think this edition's performance is better than any of pakistan's performances post 1999.

I think, yes they did justice to the talent the team was having in 2011, 2015 & 2019 world cup campaigns

I would say this one, because of the fact we were relying on other results to go our way, and for Pakistan it felt like we were really gaining momentum, and the 1992 comparisons were genuinely starting to become freaky. We had gone through a rollercoaster of emotions. 2011 hurt as well, we could have won that game had we fielded well, and obviously it would have been beautiful to knock India out in their own nation

Definitely not the 2019 WC.

Our team looked (and is) quite weak on paper. Barely got by a team like AFG too. Low key I'm glad Pakistan didn't sneak through. Another drubbing at the hands of India would be inevitable given the players in our team. I think most people including me predicted the top 4 to be Ind, Aus, Eng and NZ and weren't wrong.

2011.

This time we have overachieved if we finish 5th and level on points

Unlucky Pakistan 🇵🇰 you tried your best. Srl game was a let down we would have won that game and we would have had good nrr due to it.

Pakistan has been the most talked abt team in the last 1 week. They are exciting and thrilled to watch for any cricket fans, will be missed in this WC and in semis. 😔

Nothing can top Mohali

We did have the most number of heartbreaks though in this world cup than any of the previous editions.

3 Pakistan's losses

NZ vs SA game
NZ vs WI game
Eng vs India game
Eng vs NZ game

We only needed one of these 4 results to go our way

This one coz most likely we are gonna go out on run rate. Why can't we ever defeat the West Indies in crucial WC matches? Now our players should be ready and deserve to be welcomed with rotten eggs and stinky tomatoes.

Yeah I mean another 6 inches by Brathwaite and we would be there.

Indians have blatantly and sneakily annoyed and depressed the Pakistani nation. They were ofcourse not scared of Pakistan in the slightest but wanted to deny the country the happiness of reaching the semi finals of a premiere world tournament.

I hope the current and future generations of Pakistani players, fans, experts remember this for a long time as what goes around will come around one day. Dont think Dhoni ever had fans in Pakistan and he certainly won't have any admirers here anymore.

2011 without a shred of doubt. How could it possibly be anything else? Was utterly painful to play such fantastic Cricket and get every opportunity to take India out on their own patch... then drop four catches and bat like *****... urgh it was our World Cup to lose that year and we did.

I am surprised at pakistan fans thinking our team looked really weak for this World Cup.

For the first time we had a top ranked batsman like Babar Azam. Our openers were also In good form although Fakhar let us down. Harris and Hafeez performed and so did Sarfaraz to certain extent. We had a good pace battery and while the spin options were not better than yesteryears, they were formidable.

I think the one area where we lacked was a bulletproof keeper, like Moin or Rashid.

We seemed to have like to like replacement of Akmal brothers. Captaincy in the earlier games, especially decisions at the toss left a lot to be desired.

All in all this was a better team than 2015 and 2011 in my opinion. This team will only get stronger provides Amir, Afridi and Hassan work hard and stay fit and in form and the batting continues to build around Imam, Babar, Haris.

2011 has us traumatised to this very day. Will never forget Misbah's pathetic innings in Mohali.

2011.

But this one comes close too.

Only six inches away.

Only six...

So close but yet so far.

2011 of course. Loosing a semi we should have won is way worse than going out in this edition.

2011 Pakistan could have done something with pre-ban Ajmal.

2015 was not even close, and this one I am happy about the way they played better than expected.

2011 should have been the most painful. If Pakistan won the SF, which they should have, the final would have been vs SL, a match they could have won as well. Imagine Afridi holding the WC in MUMBAI!!! Would have hurt a billion people.

2011 team was full of over the hill players

Afridi
Misbah
Younis
Kamran
Abdul Razzaq
Abdur Rehman
Akhtar

Top 3 should've retired immediately after the WC and its biggest tragedy that they lingered on for 4 more years and played another WC in the twilight of their careers. The nucleus of the team was old and rusted players except Ajmal. Its a shame he played only 2-3 matches in the tournament.

This team has actually played much better cricket, the format is unforgiving and it has rewarded more consistent teams and rightfully so. Moving forward, I think most of the young players in this squad will be retained which only boasts well for the future

I think Pakistan had the best team in 2003. It had Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Saqlain, Saeed Anwar etc.

1999 team was second best.

2011 Mohali was most painful

Because they could have won that match, had it not been for the dropped catches

None of them, I felt they were all entirely predicted.

2003 team was a zombie team of seniors playing well past their primes with a tactically inept captain.

The six months leading up to the 2003 WC was one of the most depressing experiences as a fan - the Morocco tri series, Kenya tri series, 2002 CT, 59 and 53 all out in Sharjah and a dismal showing in South Africa were enough warning signs.

They were all rightly put out of their misery by CS Aamer Sohail.

It's extremely hard to drop 2011 - that was heart breaking

This year Pakistan has punched above their weight and over achieved in my opinion, so even though it's a dissapointing way to get knocked out it's not worse than 2011 IMO

Pakistan had a lot go in their favor against Afg, can't ask for too much luck after that.

Also had Bhuvi get injured early on in the game against India, and had part timers needing to bowl almost 10 overs.

2011 of course. Loosing a semi we should have won is way worse than going out in this edition.

Mohali was more like a final as the winner would most likely have beaten SL in the final.

2011 was incredibly painful.

2011 was extremely painful.

2011.

That match should have been won.

2011 still hurts and I hate Misbah since.

I was actually there in the stadium to watch the game. One thing I remember is a middle aged man with a beard dyed red with henna waving a huge Pakistani flag on a pole and the Indians standing around watching him, most with smiles on their faces.

The same lanka that defeated England and Windies with the latter giving you a thrashing in the league matches of 2019....With Pakistan 🇵🇰 there is no consistency and they can come up with a brilliant performance followed by a complete flop show....

No one mentioned 2007,It was most painful for me.
We had all the big players
Inzi,yousuf,Younis, Afridi
we lost to Ireland
We lost Bob woolmer.
Everything was so bad.

Maybe next time Pakistan team and fans should hold THEMSELVES and not INDIA responsible for getting Pakistan through to the semi finals.

Though i am an india i think 2011 must be the most painful because not only having bested group stage ,pak teams were humiliated by arch rivals but had to see them go on and win the glory of holding the Worldcup. knowing they themselves could have stopped them from happening must be painful

As everyone here is saying, the 2011 semi final loss to India was the most painful one. We should’ve won that match if it wasn’t for the drop catches of Sachin. On top of that, India went on to win the cup which only makes it worse.

What pity of rubbish coming out of your mouth,
Only and only pak team is responsible for the exit and noneelse

Yes including me many indians wanted pak to not reach semis but not for reasons you mentioned but because at that time we were going to top the table and were going to play pak in the semis. I know my team can be undone by anyteam in KO matches lately and thats why had no intentions of losing to archrivals.

Even with all this wanted india to win each and every match.but if they didnt not gonna join party with pakistani conspiracy

Not really.

It would have been painful if we lost to Afghanistan.

Team did decent to come back from the Windies, India and Australia losses

If we beat Bangla tomorrow 5-3 isn't a bad result at all.

We all thought we'd win 1 or 2 matches.

The 92 similarities were freaky but in the end it was just a mere coincidence.

Too bad it rained though, it could have gotten juicer if no matches were rained out

Pak wasn't humiliated lol, we lost by 29 runs.

180 run loss is a humiliation not 29 runs.

Mohali for me, Tendulker plumb LBW saved by DRS and then the pathetic Younis Misbah stand. The biggest upset has to be 2007 , ireland ad then the bob woolmer fall out.

2011.

Could have won

But

There was only one man fighting, the lone warrior.

Only one person carrying the entire burden of the team and giving it a fight, went on to become one of our most honorable and successful captains.

Not in a sense of actual humiliation but losing to india is last thing pak fans would want rather than anyother team wont it? Just like we do

Brother no need to take it on heart,i replied to OP and in no way want to hurt your feelings.

Time has passed ,just like you guys dont remember 2007 t20 final,we dont remeber CT17:ma

.

Nice try, but no one will buy this. It was the most disgraceful WC innings I've ever seen from a Pakistani batsman, because he was playing for his place in the side, rather than going for a win. Anyone with a single brain cell can see that.

There's a reason why you're a random, anonymous nobody on the internet and the other is a cricketing legend with a Test mace and name on honors board at the home of cricket.

As they say, some nobodies have verbal diarrhea, and you have a keyboard diarrhea when it comes to respecting our legends. :najam

I always put you in your place, you just need to get used to it, it seems to happen on an almost daily daily basis :))

You had no comeback after you got schooled yet again twice in one day, yesterday.

We saw the lies you had to come up with in re: Babar. You seem to be the Syed Yayha Hussaini type. Even though, he's a disgraceful individual, I have more respect for him because he does it to put food on the table for him and his family, whereas you provide free PR services for your favourites, as your such a nice charitable little nobody :))

Now for your sake, take this on the chin, as you've been accustomed to doing so well in recent times, otherwise you will make a fool out of yourself once again.

topspin, don't run in random directions now and learn to respect our legends. Will go a long way. Your sole purpose of this anonymous internet existence is to trash our one legend. Get mature. We get it he stole your lunch, now give it a rest. For your own benefit.

Good attempt at derailing this thread though - I'm done with this immaturity.

I agree.

No worries at all, brother. My reply to you wasn't in bad taste either.

I was supporting India to win the World Cup after Pakistan but after the England match I'm not sure whether India was just out played or wasn't trying so Pakistan can be knocked out.
