Dean Jones. Feel like he has the right personality to work in Pakistan setup.

Dean Jones. Either he will quit in three months or you will see total revamp of Odi team.

1 and Only Gary Kirsten

One of the main reasons he left India was because he couldn't stay away from his family. He left the south african job for the same reason as well.

Don't think Kirsten is a realistic choice.

Also I think while a good man manager he is overrated as coach. He got success with Indiana and South African sides brimming with individual superstars and he was able to quickly make them into a strong, well oiled machine. However with Pakistan the problems runs deeper which is something I don't think Kirsten is equipped to do

In a dream world Tom Moody would be a dream choice

If we are going for local then i would prefer for us to go for Mudassar Nazar or Carlo MHK.

If we are going for international then Gary would be an ideal choice. Other options could be: Moody, Jones.

Personally I would love to have Rahul Dravid as head coach of the team. But that is MASSIVE long shot as I believe he could become the next coach of the India Cricket Team. If not Dravid then Inzi or Mohsin Khan, Mohsin Khan was a interim coach of the team a couple of years and wasn't bad at all as for Inzi he would bring young talent and necessary aggression to our batters which is needed IMO

If you are talking about batting problems, then obviously Kirsten is better than Moody.

Also, Kirsten has worked with kids at under 14 level, so I think he will be more patient with batsmen.

Kohli was quite vocal in his praise for Kirsten and how he helped him evolve as a batsman when he came into the Indian team as a 19 year old kid. I think he will be better choice than Moody for Pakistani players.

I dont understand the hype behind Jones though. I do like him but people have started over-rating him. The guy has no experience as head coach with any international team. We should be careful in this regard.

Actually what Pakistan needs is a good man manager; a quality that was severely lacking in Vicky bhai. Our players need a hand around their shoulders and someone charming and humble enough to motivate them. MHK in this regard is a good example.

It doesn't really matter. Cosmetic changes like this won't change the quality of players and the failure of a system within PCB.

I would've stuck with Waqar because his fitness changes would've only benefited us long term.

For the sake of this thread my choice would be a local coach because they know about and are prepared for the beghairti that goes on at PCB and the ghatia people that run the place, so they know what they're getting into.

Can't say the same for the poor foreign coaches, that's why I'll really feel bad if Dean Jones gets chosen, because he is generally a nice and dedicated guy who will walk out of PCB shattered in a few months like Waqar.

So for that reason my choice is Mohsin Khan, though I'd rather have him as chief selector. He is really motivated, was a batsman, and think he can do the job.

But my first choice is Mudassar Nazar. Actual qualified coach with tons of experience, and has grown numb to PCB's ghaitya harkatein.

I would have liked to see Shane Warne (I know all his antics) - someone experienced, skillful, cunning but above all passionate. He is a sort of character, who somehow gets things done. Warne as HC, Siddons as batting Coach, may be Kabir Khan as bowling coach & Fontain as fielding coach, with a bad a** trainer.

Warne isn't a possibility, and I can't tell much about which other foreigner is available - I myself is more confused with Deano. He was the best ODI batsman for few years & a Test batsman with average of 50 for most part of career with lots of skill, intelligence & determination (His Chennai knock is probably the greatest ever under severe illness & adverse condition), & he has the required qualifications as well, but I am not sure if his personality 'll fit into PCB style. If Deano is appointed, it might happen that, PAK 'll play under Mohsin Khan in winters' AUS tour .....

Jones will be one of the most popular Coach among most players (not all definitely, but there is a reason for that as well) & I can bet on that; but working with PCB means he 'll have to come down to that level, which is the biggest challenge for any professional - Deano is a bit risky proposition than average. Besides, he can earn similar, if not more from media than what PCB 'll offer him, therefore why should he take that load of rubbish for too long? Aussies play cricket with heart, head & mind; they coach as well with same passion (& they are not "polished" like the English) - Dav had the worst temperament for a Head coach in his younger days, but I am sure all those Lankan, BD & Indian players respect him, like him. It's not by chance that some of the potential ATG of IND, SRL & BD were groomed by him & he had 10+ years of successful stint with 2 of the most corrupt & incompetent boards around, but it's difficult to find a match of PCB in entire global sports administration - even Nigerian FA's top 15-16 officials resigned the day they failed to qualify for WC.

Somehow, I have a feeling that PAK 'll play 2019 WC under someone as "high profile" as Aaquib, Basit Ali, Moin or Mohsin Khan - there is a reason why I am not so "sober" with Pakistan's cricket future .............

Descending order

1. Justin Langer

2. Gary Kirsten

3. Tom Moody

Not going to happen

Ricky Ponting or another successful ex-captain (Graeme Smith?)

I want to see Sehwag as head coach, with Akhtar as the bowling coach.

1) Warne is all talk and no show when it comes to his post cricket retirement life.

2) Jones has always been angling for Pakistani team's coaching. Dont think he cares about the Media $ when he has always implied on how badly he wants to get the Pakistani head coach position. Jones hot headed temperament concerns me as well.

3) I dont know why you took Basit Ali's name alongwith Moin and Mohsin. Both have done excellent job as Chief Selectors and the latter has done a good job as interim coach as well. Is there some berating on play here?

No man management is least of our problems because our players aren't st the required level and decades behind modern cricket

It will be interesting to see what happens if Dean Jones gets the job. He has been openly critical of Shehzad and Umar Akmal.

:davDave Whatmore but he is no longer interested.
Justin Langeer or Tom Moody
But I would recommend Jason Gillespie
He has great coaching brains.

From Pakistan :mhk or
:inzi but again he won't be available.

Which ones?

In different capacity Virat, Rohit, Ash, Rhane, Jaddu, BK & probably Ishant had been his pupil at NCA Bangalore & he was Coach of 2006 & 2008 U19 WC (teams that had Virat, Rohit, Pujara & few others).

And you 'll see one character in his best pupils - gutsy, stubborn, no nonsense; the characteristics that is the core of Aussie cricket.

Dean Jones just to see how red he gets when he inevitably loses it because of our shoddy batting performance. :srini

I would take Mahela and Tom Moody but it won't happen so let's see who PCB bring in :yk

I have heard Rahane, Rohit, Uthappa and Virat give credit to Gundappa Vishvanath for honing their batting skills at the NCA. May be he was there before Whatmore took over.

Warne's best quality is he gets his job done. And, I had seen him captaining in WSC 1998 - the best ever Captain Australia never got. Head coaches job is a bit different than functional coach, for which I think Warne can be a good choice. He is a bit emotional & puts his mouth on whom he likes - if he takes this job from passion, he 'll find a way to be successful. There are not many determined individual than Warne.

Deano is a good choice, but he is looking for a platform to enter into Coaching career. He is 52, if he doesn't get into now, he 'll never become a coach.

Regarding Basit Ali, there is always a "promotion" in corrupt system - Basit after 10 years with PCB (+ 3 years down the line), deserves more than Md. Akram who was made Bowling Coach, then Director NCA ....... Moin & Mohsin did apparently well as CS, because they were compared with Ilyas, Qasim ....... nothing to berate here - you can only berate something/someone if there is a minimum level of benchmark.

Could be, but that could be due to the respect to the great man. Dav was there from 2007 to 2011/12 I believe - most of these players were around 17 to 21 in that time & had trained under him.

Rohit was already in team for inaugural T20 world cup, so I doubt he spent much time under Dav.

Waqar Younis along with Mahela..i'm seriously worried how poor the bowling is going to be after Waqar

Stephen Fleming but I doubt if he will agree. Tactically brilliant and the best man to utilize available resources

May be, but I think Dav was there as "High Performance Manager" - might have worked with the boys in short stints, but I am not sure.

Realistically - I'd take a gamble on azhar mahmood

Dean is well intentioned but ill equipped

Dont want a coach who has played alongside the current players. It creates too much baggage.

Only 3 of those players left

Misbah - won't have any issues

Younis - Azhar goes out of his way to support him even if it means contradicting himself

Afridi - potential problem but at least it's limited to t20s

Mickey Arthur could be an option, he needs to get back into the limelight

I'm not exactly a fan of his but not like we are bursting with options

I don't think there's a choice here. If they're going to select according to Wasim and Raja's advice, it's going to be Dean Jones.

Personally if it's going to be a foreign coach, I don't find any other possibility other than Dean Jones tbh. He has a soft spot for Pakistan whenever he commentates, and is a bit familiar with the Pakistan setup having worked in the PSL. It maybe also because he wants the Pakistan job to launch his coaching career. You'll find Michael Vaughan being all praises for India, Kohli and Dhoni on his twitter page too in a similar fashion. Or maybe Jones genuinely has a soft spot for Pakistan cricket in general.

In any case, as Lastmanstanding said, I think he'll either be a goner within few months or will bring about a revolution atleast in the ODI setup.

Mickey Arthur could be an option, he needs to get back into the limelight

Guys like Mickey Arthur, Moody, Fleming etc arent really interested in coaching international sides. They make more money a few months every year in IPL, PSL, CPL than they would coaching international team. Also pressure is way less. More money for less work with less accountability and fan pressure. Who would leave that

pakistanigoneaussie Azhar mehmood? What? On what basis you would come up with this? And how is azhar equipped and dean isnt? Mind blowing stuff.

Andy Flower is probably the least compatible coach with the Pakistan cricket team lol.

Becuase azhar has taken coaching courses and has a successful county career, plus will be equipped dealing with the media and PCB .

Dean is well intentioned and basically was one of the first 'modern' players, but I don't think he will survive the politics or the pressure of the job

There are some issues with this. He is a nobody player. Mediocre at best. Wouldnt command player's respect. He has not coached any international team and pcb is the 4th wealthiest board. They dont need to go for such a low hanging option.

Well first you have to make best with what you have, no good coach would want to work with the PCB

Second great player usually doesn't equal great coach

PCB will go with Dean Jones... During PSL final Dean Jones promised he will try his best to convince Australian player to play PSL in Pakistan.

Gary kirsten or Tom Moody purely because they have already coached teams at international level and both have done a decent job with the teams they have coached.

Dean Jones is a good choice. Very passionate and most likely to get the job.

Gary Kirsten would be a dream come true, but let's be honest he is not coming to Pakistan.

A left field choice would be interesting. Ricky Ponting as some suggested would be a fascinating option.

You are correct in saying that great player usually doesnt makes a good coach as we saw with waqar as well. But the thing is that as azhar has no past coaching experience of an international team he has nothing to stand on to back himself. Its normal. He needs something to command player's respect. He doesnt have the impressive coaching portofolio and he isnt a good player too.

most of the egos from the team are gone and like i said we dont have many options

Dean Jones
Tom Moody
Ricky Ponting
Michael Clarke ( who knows might want a job after retiring)
Micky Arthur
Gary Kirsten
- Not in any particular order just a list of foreign people who possibly could do a good job with Pakistan Cricket

Not interested because it won't make any difference unless we address the real problems.

Taking into consideration reality (so that rules out Dravid or Ganguly) and the western perception of Pakistan's security situation (ruling out Langer, Kirsten et al.) I'll go for Sanga or Mahela.

Both have worked with a dysfunctional board before so that'll be nothing new for them. They both get the SC mentality and have played against us god knows how many times so will know our strengths inside and out. Understand the modern game and were tactically astute captains, especially Mahela who's recently worked with the England team.

Why would you say that? Good record both as chief selector and interim coach.

Two words: Pappi, Japhee

That was his whole approach to coaching when he was the interim coach. Don't want him.

I'd say:

1) Kirsten
2) Punter
3) Langer

In that order.
