PPP, MQM, Federal Govt or?

Sad to see the recent conditions in karachi after the heavy rainfall.

I am from Islamabad but due to having cousins in Karachi I visit it quite often and from a young age I have seen that whenever there is heavy rain even for an hour paani khara ho jata hai. While Islamabad has a better system and it rains here more but drainage system is better. Though Islamabad's condition is on downside too for some years.

I guess 40 years of combine MQM / PPP govt haven't helped Karachitees?

Why specifying Karachi? Because I think people there are quite educated compare for example to the smaller cities and may be its time to move on from MQM/PPP? May be these parties are not good enough and have failed to get Karachitess their basic rights from Federal Govt?

In Karachi the local governments do not have any power. The mayor (Nazim) is just a figure head with no actual power. Though even if he had I doubt he would have done much work and would find someone else to blame. Only if the individual is honest and hardworking on a personal level would they do work (which Mustafa Kamal was to a certain extent)

Ever since Musharraf was removed, the PPP government transferred powers to the provincial government

Lets be honest. When Mustafa Kamal was mayor there were heavy rains in his first year but after than there were massive public works programs and a decent drainage system was installed. Its hilarious there was no drainage system to begin with earlier. He also improved the roads and a lot of new bridges and underpasses were built. But once 'democracy' came with a 'vengeance', the provincial government took over most of theikhtiyaraat and there literally hasnt been any major infrastructural work in the city for a good decade now.

Any local party which comes in Karachi will not have any powers in the city as long as power is not devolved to local governments. The Nazim system under Musharraf worked well because atleast you can hold someone accountable.

Here the same old top-drama has been going on for years. MQM says they dont have ikhtiyaraat (correct) whereas PPP calls MQM thugs (also correct). People of Karachi suffer.

The PPP government doesnt do any work for the areas it wins is so its stupid to expect them to work for an area which it doesnt have much support in. For me, PTI is the only option then. But even they can only make an impact if they win province wide to form provincial government

Though Tbh you cant compare Islamabad to any city in Pakistan as far as infrastructure is concerned so you started on the wrong foot to begin with. Islamabad is where the ruling elite lives and if they are gonna have any place in tip-top condition it would be Islamabad

Nothing is going to happen till you have ethnic parties like PML-N and PPP in the center and province. No matter which one of these two is ruling Karachi ki waat hai.

People of karachi are responsible. You elect and now you serve them.

Its appaling. Last time I was there it rained so much I didn't think I'd make it to the airport to catch my return flight. Sad part is the entire country is stuck in a endless loop. Same faces, same problems, same excuses.

These are the kind of things which force me to say that Army time was really better for Karachi and at least there was some sort of progress tbh

This Eid has been really troublesome. For three days there was knee high water clogged right outside my home and people had to bring in suction pumps privately in order to get the streets ready for Qurbani and we had to keep our cow at a friends house and had to slaughter it there as well ~ Extremely troublesome tbh.

Guess who were the only people to assist us in getting this done ~ The army rangers !! Why should I vote for anyone (PTI, PMLN, PPP, MQM, PSP) when at the end of the day the army is the one that gets to help us and bring us these basic necessities.

The only time Karachi really progressed was when an Urdu speaker was in the presidency... I'd say at the risk of sounding racist that, yeh Sindhi Punjabi mil ke humari waat martay hain alag alag wajuhaat ki bunyaad pe.

^ Also by "Sindhi Punjabi" I meant the politicians and not the average citizen who are equally troubled by them as us.

Said urdu speaker gave free reign to MQM to kill enemies in Karachi.... Take over as a bhatta mafia... Dragged Pakistan into war on terror which led to killing of 50 000 and 100 billion$ in dammages... Was a dictator and let corrupt people like Chaudry brothers and MQM make money in billions.... Passed NRO to keep power leading to come-back of PPP and Zardari.... And largely rsponsible for BB's death...

No matter what Sharifs are, they're not Musharaff...

Your equating Urdu speakers with MQM is like me equating all Punjabis with PML-N. Frankly speaking MQM seems like the lesser evil compared to your Nawaz Shahbaz. Atleast MQM's reign of destruction is restricted to Karachi only while your Punjabi politicians fudge entire Pakistan.

Where did I equate MQM with Urdu-speakers in that quote??

You tried to defend Musharaff's legacy because he is urdu speaker which destroyed whole Pakistan....

There is a difference between fudging and reign of terror... MQM is the worst for KArachi itself.... And especially non-urdu speakers in Karachi like Pathans...

But of course everyone suffers from bhatta mafia including urdu speakers themselves... Musharaff laid foundation for state of Karachi and state of Pakistan today.... Mustafa Kamal doing good for Karachi is independent of MQM... In fact whole reason he left it and made his own party... You can have a Mustafa Kamal without a MQM just need a Nazim system...

But it's evident that the whole ''MQM at least did good for Karachi/Karachi rights'' is just an excuse to support an ethnic party or gangsters like Altaf.... Because people started badmouthing Mustafa Kamal after he made his party and finding excuses not to support him like establishment candidate.... Same establishment that cleaned up Karachi....

This is why II don't give attention to rhetoric of people of why they support MQM or PPP or PML-N or ANP or Baloch liberation front or Talibans or JUI... If somebody is defending these parties and saying ''yeah but...'' then it means they support them for ethnic reasons or corruption... Because as soon there is a good alternative they will find other excuses to defend them....

Explaining=Excusing... Good rule of thumb for Pak politics... This is why imran shouldn't make alliances with anybody... Maybe Mustafa Kamal....

nobody is more responsible than the people of Karachi. Karachiites mostly dont have idea about their civic responsibilities and would continue to block drainage system by throwing their garbage outside. They are one of the worst in the country about these things
