I think it has to be Ross Taylor followed by Martin Crowe and then Kane Williamson.

Who is your pick?

I used to really like Ross Taylor and he really should have been among the best batsmen in the world right now

Taylor? No.

Crowe has left a legacy, faced ATG bowlers and gained respect of those ATG bowlers. Was one of the most difficult bats to get out.

Eithar Kane (he has good numbers + technique for Tests) or Martin.

Sorry, it's about ODI batsman, not 'overall' batsman.

Hmm, so not Crowe.

There aren't many choices apart from Taylor in ODIs. Williamson nope, there's a case for Guptil. BMac was too inconsistent, a rich man's Afridi.

Personally I think Fleming is underated a lot. I think most people would say Crowe. I think Williamson will be close by the end of his career.

Taylor has a bit of coolness about him. Reminds me of Dhoni and seems like a chill guy to share a Pepsi with.

I think post injury he's slowly coming back to his own. Currently it's Guptill though. He can't rotate the strike that we'll at times but is a clean striker these days. Still remember his epic 180 odd vs Eng.

Hard to compare players from the 90s to current players, but Crowe and Taylor are right up there. I'd let Williamson get closer to the end of his career before even considering him on that list.

Taylor is somewhat underrated but he has a habit of taking a long time to get going which can be damaging in ODIs when it's a middle order batsman.

Williamson should finish his career as the greatest from NZ but he will need to perform at a consistently high level.

In my childhood, the most exciting batsman for me was Chris cairns. He was inconsistent but fun.

That being said, IMO the best ODI batsman would be Martin Crowe. Amazing clutch.

Crowe
Williamson
Taylor
Fleming
Guptill

Not so tough at this point, but Will might cross the curtailed career of Crowe. My all time Kiwi XII stands as

Fleming (c)
Turner
Astle
Williamson
Crowe
Harris
Cairns
Mac (WK)
Vettory
Hadlee
Bond
-------------
Chatfield

It's a tight call between Ross & Haris, but I need 5 bowlers. Howarth would have been Captain, but he is not making the team.

Am I missing anyone?

Interesting team

My all time NZ ODI XI is

Glenn Turner
Martin Guptill
Martin Crowe (c)
Ross Taylor
Kane Williamson
Chris Cairns
Brendon McCullum (wk)
Jacob Oram/Chris Harris (Very hard to choose between these two)
Richard Hadlee
Dan Vettori
Shane Bond

Still Crowe.

38 avg with 72 SR is pretty good considering he played in NZ in 80s and early 90s.

If I remember correctly, he has the 2nd best WC record for his era next to Viv. Averages 55 with 83 SR in WCs.

He did have a 91 in WC SF against Pakistan. Apart from that didn't do well in the few knockouts he played but that's ok.

This will be my NZ all time ODI XI

1. McCallum (wk)
2. Astle
3. Williamson
4. Crowe (c)
5. Taylor
6. Flemming (vc)
7. Cairns
8. Hadlee
9. Vettori
10. Boult
11. Bond

Kane Williamson needs to be more explosive.

Bit of a tuk tuk regardless of his career SR which these days are no indicator with the kind of pattas being served.

He is someone between Rahane and Smith.

I saw the Rossy stats a few weeks back.

He is one of my favourite players but get the feeling he regressed these days.

Anyways, his impact doesn't reflect on his average post 2011.

Even Dhoni averages 57 post 2011 WC but post 2013...his impact has been minimal.

Look at the other names on the list. Mr Rayudu....lol.

This is just a sad era of bloated ODI stats. ;-)

Yeah, he is lacking power game but if it is a tough pitch, I will put my money on him as he has the best technique among all the new batsmen.

My favorite NZ batsman is Greatbatch, but the best NZ batsman has to be Crowe

Fleming is underrated in tests maybe but in ODI's he always under delivered

If Guptill keeps up his form, he'll finish as NZ's best. IMO he's our MVP for our ODI team.

Crowe for mine but KW will end up ahead I think.

1. Martin Crowe

2. Nathan Astle

3. Kane Williamson

4. Stephen Fleming

Somehow forgot Guptill

Guppy is well on track to possible become NZs best ever LOI bat.

Crowe is definitely best NZ batsman of all time. I'd have Williamson, Taylor, Guptill and Astle to round off my Top 5.

Guppy is yet to play a good Knock against a quality team. 237 vs WI was good but the bowling attack was quite poor. His record vs Aus also demands for improvement. That 80 odd vs Aus last year was a good one but he missed out on a 100. He still has some way to go to become NZ best batsmen in odis.

Great batting depth !

Danny Morrisson can be considered .

Martin Crowe.

Williamson is overrated in ODIs at the moment. So far, he has been the Kiwi Amla.

Great stats but no impact.

Slightly better average for Chatfield, but he was one of the meanest bowlers ever. There is a 15 years gap in career, but 3.5 & 4.5 is huge gap in economy considering the career between 1975 to 2000.

Neither is going to make the playing XI though. On a side note, Taylor can replace Will at 4; depending on how their career goes for next 4/5 years - in that case Maryin should bat at 4 & Ross at 5, rest are almost settled. May be Boult might replace the 12th man after 2019 WC.

Yes, great depth; but this team doesn't have much chance against WI, AUS, PAK, SAF, IND or ENG XII. Newzeland team surprisingly achieved (7 SF & 1 Final, I CT win & 1 Final; 2 or 3 WSC Final) better than their individual players. Their game is based on combination, brilliant fielding & great leadership. From Howarth to Coney, Crowe, Fleming, Vat, Mac, Will - NZ always had fantastic Captains to lead the side.

In terms of talent and ability Jesse Ryder is best LOI batsman produced by NZ, he is good in both defense and attack. Also he is a great fielder despite his big physique. Like Shane Bond, another unfulfilled promise.

Overall in Test + ODIs, Martin Crowe.

Great stats but no impact.

Somehow doubt Amla would have the gumption to hit a six to win a high profile world cup match against Australia with only a single wicket remaining.

Yes, a very fine moment under pressure. However, generally speaking, Williamson so far has not been able to influence many ODI games given how good his numbers are.

Guptill, Taylor and Corey Anderson are the key NZ batsmen in ODIs.

martin crowe is the best odi batsman from nz and after that taylor, kw. but kw has a chance to surpass martyn

Stephen Fleming! From late nineties onwards he single handedly carried New Zealand's batting for more than a decade. This was an era when every team had quality bowlers

Ross Taylor - borderline modern day great in ODI's.

Love Martin Guptill too but feel he was too inconsistent early on in his career. Definitely has stepped up in the last 2 years or so.

Kane Williamson also has the potential to get there.

Bump! Ross Taylor has had a late bloomer. NZ greatest batter in ODIs IMO.

Crowe is fantastic and probably my choice as being the best, Fleming was the torch bearer for NZ and has carried them a long way, a good cricketer in a golden generation.

If I have to make a New Zealand all-time ODI XI, it would look like:-

Astle
Guptill
Williamson
Crowe
Taylor
McCullum(C/wkt)
Cairns
Hadlee
Vettori
Boult
Bond

Fleming is a must in tests, but in ODIs I feel he was a bit limited and NZ have produced better openers than him.

Crowe in Tests, Guptill in ODIs.

Taylor is the best across formats.

Feel Guptill has regressed since that 180 against SA. Also, Nathan Astle was as good an opener in his era as Guptill is in today's era.

Brendon Mccullum and Kane Williamson. Taylor, Crowe and Astle would round out the top 5. Williamson will likely end up as the best ever from NZ and one of the very best internationally.

Nathan Astle was good but didn't do much in world cup's.

Taylor is the best for me.

Followed by M Crowe and Kane Williamson. McCullum did well as a opener and Fleming was good in the middle order.

Martin Crowe for me. I am not in to all this average carry on. The attack Crowe faced was totally different to what later generations were up against. On his day there were not many if anyone better then Crowe. He played greats like Wasim and Marshall with ease when in top form.

I'm opting for Nathan Astle, I still remember him as the guy around whom the entire NZL batting used to revolve and he played at a time when 250 was a winning score.

Then again my opinion is influenced by the fact that these days batting has become ridiculously easy so averages are very decieving, I just don't tend to rate the current batsman that highly anymore although they might be better .. I don't know.

Based on stats
Crowe = twose = turner > guptill > Taylor > williamson > maccullam

Williamson should end up as New Zealand's GOAT batsman in the two main formats if he fulfils his potential.

Astle was my favourite bechas ewe share same birthday so I'll how other him :)

Taylor is right up there and Kane can get up there as well, let them finish their careers and we will have a better idea who is the best..
