One most relevant discussion is on where Glen mcgrath should be ranked.Gower and Armstrong place him relatively low below greats like Gavaskar.Botham,Akram,Lillee,Hadlee,Murli.Imran,Greg Chappell.etc.Martin Jenkings places Glen even above Murli,Lillee,Imran ,Botham,Lara,Hutton ,Hadlee or Gavaskar.Statisticaly Macgath is a king who could be clubbed with a Tendulkar,Viv Richards ,Warne or Imran and ahead of those like Martin Jenkin's rated but to me morally Mcgrath in term sof contribution and impact was not as great as the statistics suggested. No doubt,I don't deny he was phenomenally great.Overall to me just a touch below Hadlee and Wasim Akram and just ahead of Ambrose,Ponting and Kapil Dev.I feel Botham,Murli,Imran and Lara were greater match-winners and Wasim Akram a better all-round cricketer who was more lethal and versatile as a bowler.I rate Hadlee ahead because like Lara he bore the brunt of a very weak team.

Similarly it is hard to evaluate where to place Kallis even if he was not as great a match-winner as Sobers ,Gilchrist or Warne as charismatic as Tendulkar,Lara or Imran or as flamboyant as Botham .Still his staggering feats on the cricket field have to be respected and he deserves a place just a notch behind stalwarts like Sobers ,Tendulkar and Imran.

It is also debatable whether Lara's achievements place him in the same bracket as a Viv,Imran or Sachin as he bore the brunt of a weak batting side single-handedly shouldering it's cause on numerous occasions.Similarly hard to accurately rate Barry Richards who did not have a ful international career and whose merit could only be judged on WSC and First Class performances.

In some ways I admire the choices of Geoff Armstrong who has given marginal preferences to the great fast bowlers like Marshall over Tendulkar,Lillee over Viv Richards ,Hadlee above Lara ,Wasim above Border,Ambrose over Ponting,Roberts and Holding above Miandad.Notably he ranks Imran only 2nd even ahead of Tendulkar.Perhaps he feels a great fast bowler made a greatest impact on a match.I feel his ranking was most fascinating or original.Kapil Dev's rating is a fine example.

In contrast David Gower has markedly given preferences to batsmen placing Tendulkar ahead of Warne,Lara above Marshall,,Barry Richards above Lillee,Border ahead of Mcgrath,Murli and Ambrose.

Sycld Bery and John Woodcock have over rated Botham who only in peak era was in the Tendulkar-Viv Richards-Warne class .No doubt at his best his impact was like even Sobers but Botham hardly maintained consistency in the later part of his career.Woodcock wrongly rates Barry Richards, above Imran Khan and does grave injustice to Malcolm Marshall placing him behind Boycott,Miandad,Lloyd and Holding.Sadly I do not have Berry's ratings after no 10.I think Berry does gross injustice to Tendulkar ranking him below Botham and Marshall and forgets Hadlee.

Woodcock ranks Botham too high above many greats which i disagree with ..I feel Woodcock reflected a bias towards Englishman. Also wrongly rates Barry ahead of Imran and Lillee.

Cristopher Martin Jenkins has been balanced .However he rates Kallis too low down below even Kapil Dev,Gooch,Ponting etc.and in my view should have ranked in the top 12 atleast.I feel he overrates Glen Mcgrath,under-rates Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting.

Somehow I like David Gower's order of merit best even if I may differ with Tendulkar being rated above Warne ,Murlitharan so low and Barry rated above Lillee. What stands him out is the justice he does to the great Jacques Kallis who was arguably done injustice by the other experts. He does ample justice to Kallis,Lillee,Imran,Lara, Steyn,Ponting, etc.
I also admire his choice of Andy Robert's arguably the closest ever to Lillee with his great artistic skill.Disagree on his evaluating Ponting to be ahead of Greg Chappell or Andy Roberts ahead of Hadlee and Gavaskar.Controversially he places Adam Gilchrist at no 25 who many experts rank amongst the top 5 in the last 40 years.
