With saim ayub out of contention for 6 weeks, I'm 100% sure that he will miss out on CT 2025.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed but ik for a fact that's its unrealistic to believe he'll fully recover in time. Again I may be wrong and if that's the case, then no point of this thread but my prediction is that he'll miss out.

So who should replace him?
 
I dont see Fakhar coming back. Chairman won't back down.

Assuming Fakhar remains missing then I want babar opening.

Completely forgot. Shan is a great option. After scoring this quality ton, should be a regular for a couple more years. Quality player.

I shouldn’t even have to say Fakhar, unreal he isn’t in the team. If they still don’t get him in after this, then safe to say his career is over under the current regime and he isn’t a spring chicken either.

4) Shan Masood
5) Saud Shakeel (Hasn't opened in PSL)
6) Usman Khan (has opened as well)
7) Kamran ghulam (has opened as well)
8) Muhammad Haris

^^ These are all i can think of atm from the top of my head.

But fakhar, Imam, Shan are top 3 atm and the ones will PCB will likely consider.

Haider Ali (outside chance)
Huraira (someone who has been in the team)
Shahzeb (outside bet - U19 player)

I am just adding a few more options in the hat for the poll.

my choice would be maaz sadaqat
like for like replacement ie young,agressive,left handed
 
Fakhar should walk into the team, but it would be such a shame for Saim to miss out on home CT.

FAKHAR:Best white ball opener from pak in this century.
Big match player.
But does not have proper fitness and is seriously out of form.

imam:timid player and plays slowly so pak will always end up with a under par score.
also a liability in the field and has short ball problems.

usman khan:does deserve to be in a club level teaml et alone national team.

kamran ghulam cant survive against quality fast bowler barring a few flukes.

Their not my options brother.

I'm just listing all possible scenarios that pcb will consider.

But knowing pcb they will narrow it down to fakhar, Imam and Shan.
 
mohammad haris is a good option but i dont trust him in odis.
shan: limited player
despite his limitions tries to punch above his weight
has good performances in icc tournaments(2022 t20 wc).
maaz sadaqat:best option
young dynamic left hander.
equally good against pace and spin.
like for like replacement for saim.
but is only 18 and has not debuted yet.
 
Despite his talent ABDS has not performed so will likely be dropped. We are looking for two openers. No team can blood in two openers at the same time. Honestly, there is no option but for Bobby to open, unless we give ABDS another chance.
 
Guys looking at his great form how he dominated sena attacks in their backyard seems like biggest setback for pak i mean pak has to get him ready for ct at any cost if they want to defend their ct title plz discuss.

yeah, him missing out has effectively killed Pakistan's chances of ct.

One thing to want someone, another thing to defy the laws of reality.

Unless aqib can get a wolverine healing factor syrum ready, It's highly unlikely that saim will be fully fit for ct.

6 weeks is surgery and recovery time. It doesn't account for fitness and how long he'll be away from practise sessions as well
 
Gives an opportunity to others to rise up to the occasion. Fakhar, Saud, any other solid domestic batter.
Need to give up the mentality of "oh we lost this player, we can't win now". We went in with 2009 wt20 with shezzy and Butt as openers lol.
It will also help motivate Saim in putting in hard yards for a come back and he'd definitely want to return to the form he left in. Otherwise, with Pakistani players, there's always a chance of them becoming oblivious and channel their inner Umer Akmal and set themselves on path of steady decline. Too much fame too soon ruins the mind of our players. Look at Shaheen and Naseem.

Nope you got fakhar and imam if you dont want imam can select new opener from domestic team who is in form.

CT is an ODI tournament. How many times have Babar and Rizwan opened together in ODIs?

How many times has Rizwan opened in ODIs?

How hard is it to do your research before commenting?

Most definitely. He probably was our best ODI opener leading into CT25.

Fakhar is explosive but he's also inconsistent and plays riskier Cricket than Saim.

Now the question is who should pair with Fakhar? Abdullah, Imam or someone new?

Add Maaz Sadaqat and Hassan Nawaz as options too. They are upcoming guns

I kind of like the M.Haris shout, I think him potentially Fakhar opening isn't a bad ploy.

I am not a Shan fan but since we are playing at home and it is ODI cricket I would go with :shan & :fz
 
Saim will be play ct 25 mohsin naqvi sent him abroad for fast treatment and recovery
 
Fakhar and Saim were my 1st choice before.

Now as saim got injured, I would prefer Imam back in the team over Abdullah the crap batter.

Imam/fakhar combo should be the 1st choice now undoubtedly.
 
Fakhar obviously.

But if not then Haseebullah khan. He is a very good fit to open in odis. 51 list A average with 9 centuries already too.
 
Fakhar should be a no-brainer whether Saim is there or not.

In the end, the second opener is likely going to be Abdullah even though that's a disaster. I would rather try someone else whether it's Haris, Haseebullah, Sadaqat or any other player that can play quickly.

I would avoid Imam, Shan and Abdullah.

Abdullah shafique: avg 33, sr 81, 3 hundreds

Imam : avg 44, sr 81, 10 100s

Haseebullah: avg 51, 89 SR, 9 100s.

I personally think Haseebullah should get his chance as an odi opener.

I think Haseeb is a domestic bully only. I don't like his appearance so far in number of games he has played. Looked pretty mediocre.

And how did you conclude that? Based on 1 odi where he didn't even bat or based on 3 t20is where he played at 7?

He has barely gotten a chance yet.

Play him for 5 games as an odi opener before we jump to these conclusions.
 
Have added poll. I think it should be Fakhar Iman combo again.. Cannot take Abdullah serious anymore.
 
I will pick Imaam and Fakhar to open. I will not pick up a back up opener and ask Babar to open.Saud Shakeel can then make the squad.
 
better to pick Fakhar because he is the one who can match the playing style of Saim... we need someone who can utilize the powerplay and fakhar is the only choice we have.

Saud shakeel wouldn't be a bad opener at all. He's ironically the definition of having a safe option at the top.

You can't go wrong with such players opening but yes it does rob you of the fakhar + saim dynamic.

“If Saim Ayub isn’t available for the Champions Trophy, it will be a major setback. Pakistan’s entire ODI setup is based around his performances and his role as a batsman and part-time bowler.”

“Abdullah Shafique has been out of form in ODI cricket for the past year. I don’t think Pakistan should persist with him for the Champions Trophy. Instead, we should consider Imam-ul-Haq or even Shan Masood as opening options.”
 
Fakhar hasn't played ODI cricket in 14 months .

He also failed in Champion's Cup and President's Cup.

He should replace Abdullah anyway but anybody who replaces Saim is a downgrade . There's nobody available who has even 70% of his current skill level

The Pakistani selectors have included injured batter Saim Ayub in the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy, owing to his recent form and improvement as an opener.

Despite his ankle injury, the PCB is seeking the best medical opinion to assess his fitness in time for the tournament. Fakhar Zaman is also being recalled, with potential replacements Abdullah Shafique or Imam-ul-Haq if Saim is not fit.

Same rubbish was said during sa odi series that sa will score around 450 or 500 look what happen there they couldn't even come close to 300 totals set by pak were smashed into pieces.

What do you think he is thinking? Doesn't he wanna be part of CT25? Yet these people are causing emotional and psychological pain to him in this tough time by constantly asking these pathetic questions and following him.

Shame on them. These so called journalists from a particular news network are not even worth their title of Journalists and Reporters.

If it's anything other than a sprain like a fracture or tear then he's not making it for the CT25. If they rush it, I'm 99% sure he'll get injured and his career will be in jeopardy.
