We are in a difficult situation. The natural captain is Shadab but he is not performing and hasn't been for a while. Shaheen is a choice because of his PSL but doesn't strike me as the sharpest.

At the moment if you look at Pakistan's team you have two players who are automatic picks - Farhan and Usman T. Then Saim you can probbaly include because of potential and his overall utility. Rest are not automatic picks.

So you either have to pick one of those guys which doesn't seem too sensible, or you pick someone who isn't in the team but may have captaincy potential like Niazi. Which isn't sensible either.

It is difficult. I am genuinley stumped.
Shadab has one of the best analytical and data driven teams in the PSL, he is no genius because if he was his bowling IQ would be top tier

Media reports suggest the PCB is seriously reconsidering Salman Ali Agha’s role as captain after a disappointing Asia Cup campaign. So—who should take the reins next?

Despite Pakistan reaching the final, Salman Ali Agha’s personal form and tactical decisions have come under fire. He managed just 72 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 80.89, with critics slamming his rash dismissals in key moments. The team also suffered three consecutive defeats to India, including in the final, further intensifying scrutiny.

Sources within the PCB reveal a growing divide: some officials back Agha’s continuation, while others are pushing for a fresh face ahead of the T20 World Cup. Names like Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, and even Babar Azam are being floated, though selectors reportedly prefer giving younger players more chances.

So, who should lead Pakistan into the next phase of T20 cricket?
  1. Pick 11 players who deserve to be in the Team on performance
  2. Pick a Captain from the 11

Otherwise, you will be carrying dead weight...

I wonder when will Shahid Hashmi the ARY reporter will give inside news of Agha to be removed as captain.
:sk

I can't think of anyone else apart from Shaheen. Three PSL titles out of 4 attempts has to count for something. Before him Lahore Qalandars were a joke always finishing last on the table. In 2024 PSL Edition when LQ finished last, Shaheen still attended the semi finals and finals and was encouraging the other teams, players and routing for them from the bench. That shows leadership qualities.

Shaheen is immature and way too egotistical to be the captain. He doesn't accept how far he's fallen from his peak and refuses to acknowledge the dip in his form. Not a personality that would be suited for captaincy.

That being said, we literally have zero options. Agha has to go as he's been a huge letdown in both the Asia cup and the WC - both his performance and captaincy have been pathetic.

I also think having 3 different captains across the 3 formats will not be workable.

I guess they can give it to anyone at this point who is a sure shot starter in the side

Mohammad Amir has predicted that current skipper Salman Ali Agha may not remain Pakistan’s T20I captain after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026:

“I think Salman Ali Agha will no longer remain the T20 captain after this World Cup. In my opinion, no one else truly deserves it at the moment. As things stand, I don’t see a suitable replacement right now. I also believe that for many players, this T20 World Cup will be their last,”

“Where did it improve? Why did you bring him back?”

He is not a T20 batter. A very good ODI player however and should remain as ODI captain.

Problem is the team is so green there are very few established players.

Could try bringing Shan Masood in as a stop gap.
