Here i am not selecting the best batsmen ever in terms of pure statistics or talent but the batsmen who were bestowed most with all the ingredients needed to comprise the perfect batsmen.I am asessing the combination of technical skill with ability to destroy bowling attacks, elegance and creativity.

1.Barry Richards
2.Sachin Tendulkar
3.Don Bradman
4.Greg Chappell
5.Rohan Kanhai.

Barry Richards and Tendulkar blended the power of a bulldozer with the grammar of a professor ,organization of an architect and creativity of a magician. They blended the technical skill of a Sunil Gavaskar with the agression of Viv Richards and imagination of Denis Compton.By a margin of a whisker Barry was more technically proficient and marginally more agressive than Sachin. In Bradman's era the technical aspect of batting had not developed like that of later eras and though he was unorthodox could execute an unbelievable range of strokes Greg Chappell perfectly blended technical skill, with elegance and agression more than Viv Richards or Gavaskar.Rohan Kanhai arguably posessed more natural talent and creativity than any batsmen ever as well as high technical skill. Many regarded him to be more complete than Sobers .

Although amongst the greatest Gavaskar and len Hutton were too defensive while Viv Richards and Lara were not the technically soundest of batsmen.

whatever I have seen sachin was better than rest of his peers.

Though i haven't seen any of the above mentioned guy (live) except srt, i think srt is much better than any of his contemporaries as well as any of the modern greats.

How many of these did you actually watch?

Javed Miandad, as long as he didn't have to face the West Indies pace battery.

He did quite well against the Mighty West Indies of the 80s. Michael Holding always names him and points to Miandad's courage and determination when asked about one of the best batsmen he ever bowled to.

An average of 29 looks good to you? That too a couple of hundreds were scored in 1989 after Holding, Roberts and Garner retired. And one of those hundreds came when Marshall didn't play the match.

Nobody can comment on best ever without having seen everyone bat. Tendulkar certainly stood out the most during our time in terms of how he dominated both formats and stood up to some top bowlers like a true champion on many special occasions. Kids from mid to late 2000s probably have no idea Tendulkar was one of the hardest and cleanest hitters of the ball back in the day.

Well, I think you factored in his performances during the latter part of his career. This is during the 80s period, the one I was referrring to. Capture.jpg

No one comes close to Viv.

He is head and shoulders above the rest and anyone who watched him in real time would acknowledge that.

From the batsmen I have seen, SRT trumps everyone. He had a perfect technique and can also bat aggressively.

The most complete ever is just impossible to say because you have to watch all batsmen to make such statement. If I take account of attack and defense of all batsmen I have seen then SRT will be the most complete batsman for me. He also had holes in his game, but less than other batsmen.

Joe Root..

At least you know he will score 50.

Tendulkar in test easily (40+ average in every country), ODI is uncertain because some with stellar overall stats (Kohli) have poor world cup record and vice versa

Overall nobody comes close to Tendulkar

SRT obviously for his defense. Not sure ABDV is such a great defensive player. Sachin banished shots through the off side for an entire match to get out of a slump and he made 241 runs at Sydney.

Most complete bat has to be SRT, he had an all weather technique which would bail him out when he was not in form while most if not all other batsmen when out of form when through a longer dry patch in scoring runs..

Rahul Dravid. Rock like defence combined with the ability to play shots on both sides of the wicket. Great in Tests, not a bad one day player either.

Avg of 28 in south africa, Poor in srilanka and aus as well. Trundled against quality pace bowlers.

No matter how you put it, it has to be SRT from the players we have watched live. No talking about the best or anything, just the most complete.

Adelaide 2012, Cape town 2014, Delhi 2015.

Ab scored 30 off 220 and 40 odd off 300 on rank turners.
Sachin can never play innings like those. Neither can he score fastest 50 ,100 and 150.
And please dont tell about 90s sachin. It wasnt as if he batted at 100+ sr. Ab at his best is the most destructive batsman who has played the game .
Sachin was never as destructive as ab. Sachin is conventional batsman.
Ab can play brilliantly on any kind of wicket.
Sorry to say but sachin was never a true match winner like ab, kohli or smith in either test or odi
Sachin always got out before finishing a game

Watch Tendulkar capetown knock of Sachin. Sachin played in a completely different era and did well in the ABDV era as well. iNfact he made 200. He had to adapt himself against wide range of bowlers througouth the history. ABDV batted well in a specific era with batsmen friendly rules in ODIs. It is a comical comparison to use fastest 50,100 as reference. Even Afridi held that record for very long. Anywho check all the great bowlers. Probably they will differ with your view.

From those I have seen :
Ricky Ponting from the 90's-00's
Joe Root from the 10's.

Equiped to play most types of bowling and in most parts of the world.

Broad and Flintoff has ab's number. If you prepare green top any inswing bowler can trouble him.

Ab left his team in trouble in england tour and went on to earn money.

He had a great 2012/2013 outside that he did nothing much other than bashing Windies and Pakistan. Even against Pakistan he averaged like 7 in one of the series. He had several poor Test series. That is why he averages only 50 that too in this era.
