I think Misbah is making a significant mistake in playing just two warm-up matches in Derby.
I’m not sure that anybody will benefit from players playing big innings.
If they played 3 Three Day matches - equivalent to old-fashioned English County matches - each batsman would get 6 innings instead of 4 and each bowler would bowl 20 overs in 6 innings instead of risking injury by bowling 30 overs in 4 innings.
It’s not too late to change the program. And they should!
I don’t think Misbah was behind the schedule - even if so, no they shouldn’t change it.
They are not playing any old fashioned 3 day FC game rather they are playing new fashioned 4 day practice game where 11 bats & fields but each side has one extra player - obviously that’s the extra bowler to share the work load. This is actually better because it covers possible loss of play for weather and it gives enough time for every player to have a bit of batting. I do know a bit of those three day games which often became joke in first three innings with tactical declarations to set up the fourth innings - don’t think apart from acclamation, it helped players much. In olden days, tourists used to strat Australia tour with couple of four day proper FC games (often the starting one at Freemental against WA) where stats was credited to players account, which I think is the best preparation.
Once a BBC commi (CMJ or JP Agnew or may be Brian Johnston) asked Benaud what was the biggest problem for English cricket that the gap with AUS, WIN is so wide - Richi said that it was the shortened FC games with bonus point system which is basically an extended version of four LO innings where teams plays to get maximum (8) bonus points from bat & ball. It (3 days game) wasn’t that big a deal when even 170 overs were possible in a day but with slowing over rate 325-350 overs is just not enough to toughen players for Test cricket. It was Richi Benaud, hence I am sure TCCB did hear that and eventually by mid 90s, County games were converted in to 4 x 105 overs game.
Also, I am not sure despite having the scorecard of Day 1, where you are coming from for 4 x 30 overs theory when Greens have used 7 bowlers and highest numbers of overs bowled is 19 by Abbas - with already 8 down, he might not bowl even 23 overs this innings. In contrary, four day game is better preparation for pacers because within few days time they’ll play five day games and might have to bowl 30 x 6 overs - this time only 11 will play against 11.
Misbah is not responsible for every problem around PAK cricket.
