Why are the Pakistani players, fans and celebrities being so humble in victory?

Let's get this clear. Indian's were in red hot form having trashed England and Australia in the Warm Ups and having the IPL so close to the WC. There was zero excuse for them to be defeated by ten wickets against the under dogs Pakistan.

Why are our players being so humble in victory? Why are we humbly accepting a smiling Kohli and Dhoni talking to our players at the end of the match as if it is an honour?

Are we now going to forget about Kohli's Asia Cup 2012 Century celebration against Pakistan?

Are we going to forget about Mauka Mauka all these years?

Are we going to forget about the Anti Pakistan Statements made by all the Indian players including Gambhir for the last 15 years?

Are we going to forget about Sehwag's "Baap Pota" Comment?

Are we going to forget about Harbhajan's "Plz just let the Indian team walk over" comments?

This appeasing and pleasing India attitude is really sad to see. We have every justified reason to rub this defeat in

Because it's not over yet. Our goal is to win trophy not the match against India.

If indian did all those sorts of things that doesn't mean we should do the same thing. Let's be different. If we do the same thing then what's the difference between us and indians.

It would likely take many more victories like this to improve the attitude. This victory has come against the run of play.

Cause Desis in general are soft and corny, if they were North Americans they would be rubbing it in each others faces. I hate how serious our people, we're always supposed to be gracious in victory lol.

That Kohli who won the Asia cup was a different beast to the vanilla Kohli who has been playing against Pakistan in the past few years. He has always been chummy with Pak cricketers on the field and that was seen yesterday as well. Why would Pakistan do something to rub it in to fire up Kohli when the vanilla version of Kohli is working well for them results wise.

Errrm - because its not even been 24 hours - Let Akhtar etc wake up and digest the events then see.

There shouldn't be anything against any current Indian player or against the Indian team.
None, in the current India squad has displayed any arrogance directly against Pakistan. There were no punching bag by any Indian players in this squad before the game.

In all honestly, these are only sportsmen representing their country. There was no sledging, no verbal spats, no nothing by both sides - which is very professional. Something that has become rare in cricket.

And Kohli actually displayed a high class by personally congratulating Babar and Rizwan with a generous smile. The whole world saw it.

But yes, if imbeciles like Gambhir and to some extent Raina, were playing in this squad then we should've kept our distance.

I think it was a great display to truly represent the "gentlemen's game". Kudos to both squads.

What do you want them to do? Chop their opponents heads off?

Do you want the Pak captain to give galiya'n/abuse ex-Indian players during press conference/presentation?

I mean what's your point?

You spanked them with 10 wickets, enjoy it and move on. Let your performance do the talking. If Pak had a superior team no taunts would have happened in the first place over the years.

Would be nice if you guys do that and wake Kohli , Rohit , Bumrah up.

So having an inferior team justifies the behaviour of Sehwag, Gambhir all these years?

If anything, Kohli has went out of his way to make sure that the Indian team has been extra chummy with Pakistan when they have been uber aggressive against Australia and England in their recent test successes against them. They have been at their best behaviour when playing against Pakistan compared to any other team.

I don't know if that is a conscious decision by Kohli to make sure that they're not seen in a bad light given everything that's going on inside India politics related. Kohli can't openly go against the supreme leader and so he probably promotes India Pakistan relations in the way he can. That's very commendable of him, but I don't know if that conscious change in behaviour has affected the passion and hunger of the Indian team when they play Pakistan nowadays, because the Indian team has looked flat and devoid of hunger in their two recent biggest losses against a passionate Pakistan.

Australia got so used to beating England in the ashes for 15-16 years from 1989-2005 that the then Australian thought that the 2005 Ashes was just a formality where the Australian players did not have the same fire, intensity for that tour and they were shell shocked, unprepared for the quality of competition England offered that series

I kinda get that but this has been a recent trend that's continuing. Pakistan playing with full of josh and passion and an Indian team trying to be uber professional without any sort of competitive edge and I think that can affect the performance of teams when one team is up for it while the other team is flat and devoid of emotions trying to be too friendly.

Even in the CT final, Kohli in as very chummy with Amir, praisi him in media and gifting him bat and everything. But in the final, Amir was fired up against Kohli while bowling and even after the dismissal. And that's how sports should be. I think the vanilla version of Kohli is being counterproductive in Indian team performance against Pakistan. Kohli said no one should even smile at England during the Lords test and give 2 hours of hell for them on the field. Could you ever imagine Kohli saying the same against Pakistan?

I don't recall Kohli ever said anything objectionable against Pakistan, he is a great batsman and a sportsman.

There is no Ghambir, Sehwag, Mindad and Afridi among the current players.

Trying to make sense of this post.

Rather than forget about what so and so has said about us, I think the Pak team has finally matured to the point that they are eying the bigger prize and this was just another game albeit a big one but they got it out of the way now. Who cares what Ghambir, sehwag and whoever else have said.. they’re irrelevant and we shouldn’t care what they say. The result speaks for itself.

Cricket has changed. Those days of "rubbing it in" are over.

Cricket is now more about objectivity/professionalism than dramas.

What a poor post. Pak played outstandingly and let their game do the talking.

1. Talking to Dhoni and Kohli with smile on face ? What do you expect them to do. Remove stumps and go for a brawl on the pitch?

2. Kohli's celebration in some match of 2012 -
VK is well known to celebrate wildly even in a dead rubber match over a wicket or win. If any of Pak player wants to celebrate that way, no one will stop him.

3. Mauka mauka ads - well, broadcasters try to milk money by creating hype with some healthy banter. Pak braodcasters can surely go ahead and create something interesting like mauka mauka ad.
In fact they did with some 'no issue, le lo tissue' after CT17. And we laughed on it too. It's not like these broadcasters run our country and pushing ourselves in a nuclear war.

4. Gambhir is in politics. Politicians speak like that every other day to stay relevant. Politics in India and Pak revolves around bashing our neighbour country.
And by the way Pak players like Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar etc have done the same multiple times. Not to mention Imran's twitter account.

5. Sehwag - He has no sense at all while speaking. I wouldn't think much about what he says/said.
I remember during one ODI world cup, just before Ind - SL match, he made fun of SL team. And SL went on to beat India comfortably. An international player(Sehwagh) who says he didn't consider spinners as bowlers during his cricketing days shows his maturity level. By all means, tag him on Twitter and give befitting reply since you've won yesterday.

But again why name Sehwag only. Javed miandad still mocks Indian team of 90s on every other show he goes. Nothing player like Tanvir Ahmed thought VK is afraid and ran away from Asia cup in 2018 due to CT17 defeat.
Yours only Ramiz raza went on to claim that India is afraid of playing against Pakistan. "Are darte he saale, champions trophy me humne jo unki haalt ki thi" were his words.

6. Bhajji and Shoaib shares a healthy friendship and they tease everytime they face each other.
The walkover comment was also the same kinda teasing. In fact Shoaib has tagged Bhajji and tweeted after the yesterday's win like "are kaha chale gye bhai?" Do you think it's something to think about?.
I feel for you. Seems like you never had friends who teased you.

Your team played like champions yesterday, defeated India who were considered favourite. Critics who were not giving Pak a chance in tournament now thinks Pak can win WC.
Enjoy it man. Hope your team plays like this in coming days and surprise everyone.

You should always stay humble no matter how many matches you win. The agression should be shown on the field and they did that.

It's always best for players to stay humble, just ask India how they felt after being brought down to earth after the 2017 CT final.

What was wrong with Kohli's century celebration in the Asia Cup 2012?

"You seem like a guy who takes himself way too seriously. My advice, Lighten Up" - Scarecrow to Batman in Batman Begins.

There is a match tomorrow against NZ of all teams. Focus should be on that now. Haven't won the cup yet.

Plus there are characteristics and traits that define us. Majority of our players are nice and friendly who get along well with their Indian counterparts. So there is literally no need to start something that isn't productive.

Regarding what people say on Social Media, Social Media is filled with cancerous and uncivil people who have nothing good going on so they just to post everywhere they can to get some inner satisfaction which does nothing for anyone except idiots.

The rivalry is waning because India and Pakistan do not play each other much. And any player stupid enough to go gung-ho on the basis of political uneasiness will get bashed senselessly from all quarters. Also this Pakistan team is quite possibly one of the most well-behaved in recent times.

We will definitely see a bit of needle in the NZ match though.

This.

Have you ever heard a headline saying: "Player scores 50 in a crucial run chase to defeat opposition team, Twitter users laud both team's effort".

It's always "Player gets trolled", "social media users abuse opposition fans" blah blah.

Virat Kohli and Cristiano ROnaldo destroyed completely on the same day, by BAbar Azam and Mo Salah! :yk2

Actually this a better strategy from Pakistan.

You donot want to anger Virat. Best be chummy, feed him Biriyani, take selfies with him, smile, shake hands, bhai bhai, keep him mellow ... He himself will lead his team out of the World Cup. Now concentrate on the remaining games and hopefully reach the finals.

There is enough of it on social media.
The team needs to remain focussed, how ever this game specially for PAK was HUGE.

Dont know if you saw the speech from Babar in the dressing room after the game, but one knows he would never give such a speech after beating Eng or Aus for example. The roar at the end said it all....

First match.

Long way to go yet.

Remember India beat us in the 2017 Champions Trophy....

Its just a group stage match after all. That too in the least prestigous format (generally accepted view). Now if this was a knockout of the final, it would be a big deal.

Regardless, there is no need for any trash talking really. India and Pakistan hate losing to each other more than any other side in sports, so its really unneccessary.

Btw, kudos to Pakistan. But for me, the ODI world cup is the real world cup. This tournament gets played in back to back years...what kind of world cup is that?

Anyways, 3 wins for PAK vs India in ICC events now.

Shaheen Afridi can get hot headed

Patting our backs about how 'humble' we are isn't very humble.

Regardless, it was a clinical performance and it was exactly what we needed, but it was also the first time we ever beat India in a WC. If we celebrated like idiots, it would make us look myopic, as if beating India was our only goal.

Pakistan has a better overall record. They didnt care that much about the world cup record cause overall we dominated and india had to use the world cup record to boost themselves up. Many people were not aware of this world cup record untill 2011. It was in 2011 world cup that many people came to know about the world cup record and indians started to rub it in.

Especially when pakistan won the 2012 series against them. After that by the 2015 world cup, star sports were marketing geniuses as they created one of the best advertisements which was called mauka mauka. It promoted the streak.

We had a better overall record and the purpose of winning the world cup match was to shut their mouths, thats about it.

If our companies had good marketing teams they would had created advertisments that shut mauka mauka well.

Star sports had marketing geniuses that helped promote this streak. Jazz on the other hand came up with a cringeworthy ad. If a reply really mattered than it should had been through an advertisement.

TBH i am just glad the monkey is off our back. I have seen all of these matches and the striking thing is that in the 90s average Ind teams beat us quite easily. I was at Old Trafford in 99, and our batsman froze, in particular Inzi made Jadeja, Tendulkar and Robin Singh look like Marshall, Holding and Garner. A dreadful innings that pains me to this day.

It's a 30 year record that has never happened in any sport but okay:asif

If you had measured the record in terms of matches, that would had made more sense. Comparing it in terms of years is very dumb.

World cup happens with a 4 year gap. Us winning yesterdayeams if we dont play each other for 4 years do i get to claim we have been undefeated against india for 4 years?

Because it's not over yet. Our goal is to win trophy not the match against India.

If indian did all those sorts of things that doesn't mean we should do the same thing. Let's be different. If we do the same thing then what's the difference between us and indians.

Pakistan now has the difficult task of going back to business against the tough NZ side (a week from now facing NZ would have been easier). Right now everyone expects another 10 wicket shutout. Plus all that talk about settling the grudge brings it's own pressure.

Well duh, world cups happen every 4 years only. But T20 WCs did happen in between as well. It's basically like Argentina never managing to win a single world cup game against Brazil in their entire history or England not managing to do it against France or Germany. It's all the more special given it included a streak in the T20 format given how volatile the format is and how unpredictable the results tend to be. ODI WC streak is astonishing as it is, the fact that the T20WC streak extended to 4-5 editions was a great achievement.

Especially when those 30 years includes the 90s when India was beaten regulary and frequently.

to OP, you want to monkey the monkeys? How would you feel good about yourself or claim you are better if you did the same thing?

Be humble, whether you beat them once, twice, thrice, or win the world cup. We were always humble, even when we used to thrash them silly in the 80s and 90s. Our media and newspapers never "masalafied" the victories back then. I hope we dont change that attitude now or years to come.

It is because the win has come on back of terrific performances of Shaheen, Rizwan and Babar.

These guys are known for showing great sportsmanship, being humble in victory and success unlike the ex-Pakistani cricketers who used to talk more than perform. This is the template that Pakistan should set in this era when the game is more professional than it ever was.

It will set an inspiration to the next generation of Pakistani cricketers, something which the previous era of Akhtar, Afridi and a few others failed to set up.

The whole post went over your head. You cannot talk about years as world cup doesnt happen yearly

If you want to talk about years than it has been 8 years since pakistan won against india in a bilalteral series and has been undefeated since than.

Thats how petty the statement is.

The wc streak mattered till it was 0, now that is has been broken, head to head is what matters now and will always matter

Only becaue India mostly strong arms everyone to their favorable conditions. How many wins does India have in India against Pakistan? How often has India played world cup games against Pakistan in Pakistan away from their comfort zones?

I am not saying India doesnt deserve that streak, but lets not go totally gah gah over it because politics and other stuff had a lot to do with it. India refuses to play out of their comfort zone when it comes to playing Pakistan mostly.

The head to head is a meaningless record. Who talks about how many times Brazil have beaten Argentina in the friendlies? But everyone remembers the iconic WC games - like Maradona's games in the WC or more recently when Germany battered Brazil in their home.

If India and Pakistan had been playing regular cricket all these years, this record would have been reversed by now in both formats. International relations between the two countries is the only thing that's stopping that record to be reversed in India's direction. Your point about the bilateral series is a moot one because bilaterals are not regular events in the case of India and Pakistan. The fact that they've never met since 2012 proves my point. But India and Pakistan met in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019 and now in 2021 and will meet again in 2023. That's how regular world cup games are. You're just making a false equivalence comparing the two.

Bi lateral series are not friendlies. these records do matter, the stats do matter. Lets not develop selective stats or cherry pick those that make you look good.

Lol head to head has become meaningless

Heres a guy counting a record interms of years that to about a game that happens after 4 years, thus counting the dead years in between

Like i said, 9 years record since winning the bilalteral series

Only becaue India mostly strong arms everyone to their favorable conditions.

Good old Pakistani conspiracy theory.

How many wins does India have in India against Pakistan?

I don't understand. Are you arguing it's difficult for India to beat Pakistan in India than elsewhere? India did beat Pakistan some at least 3 times in India in all world cups from my memory. Or are you saying India benefit from playing at home against Pakistan?

How often has India played world cup games against Pakistan in Pakistan away from their comfort zones?

Well there was the small matter of cricket being suspended in Pakistan due security issues. Not sure how India could face Pak in Pakistan when no cricket happened there for a long time.

I like us being humble when we have thumped opposition fair and square on the field. Would you rather want us do sapera or nangin dance like Bangla boys?

I don't even know why you guys care about the head to head record so deeply lol. Deep down you'd acknowledge that India is an overall better team than Pakistan across formats and that head to head record would vanish pretty quickly if India and Pakistan started playing regular cricket with each other. The only thing that stops from that happening is the perpetual state of war that India and Pakistan seem to be in.

What would you say when the H2H record reverses? I would still maintain it's a meaningless record. Have you ever seen an Australian cricket fan boasting to an England fan that we have a better bilateral head to head record in ODIs. No, that would be cringeworthy. They always boast about their world cup trophies and not because of some random number of times they have won against a particular team in the past. In fact, except Pakistan fans, I've never come across any cricket fan talking about the head to head record in cricket. They always talk about the Ashes or World cup trophies.

Is not a conspiracy theory, its the truth. In 1the 1996 world cup that was a stipulation that india will play its quarterfinal in india regardless of their position. But even if you take that part out of the equation, you cannot claim this is an 'astounding' record because due to happenstance, conspiracy theory or whatever the reason, the fact remains India has never faced Pakistan in Pakistan whereas Pakistan has played India twice in India, and I dont know if we ever played you guys in the T20 world cup games in your own backyard.

Lekan wo kehtey hein na, kabhi aao na khushbo laga ke! Sharjah se to bhaag gaye they haar haar ke, nahi to munna record to wo bhi kaafi astounding hai. Ya Asian test championship ke record bhi kholein? Khaali stadium wala?

Like I said, I want us to stay humble, India deserves all the accolades. But this was a statistical anomaly due to factors as well.

It is mostly Indian channels with their trademark disgusting cringe programming that spoil the pre match atmosphere.

Please stop. Friendlies in football are not the same as bilateral series in Cricket, so the the number of times played is irrelevant. Plus the Cricket rankings are based on bilateras and ICC tournaments - doesn’t matter how many times Pakistan and India played each other, the bilaterial results and subsequent head to head stats count.

Remember, Indian fans were harping on about the streak in ICC events including the Champions trophy (which as you know is not a world cup), then after the humiliating defeat in 2017 final, suddenly CT stats are eliminated and Indian fans further pigeon holing to WC stats. That changed yesterday, no streak any more in World Cups, so now the Indian fans are pigeon holing to just ODI WC head to head stats.

It’s you who is making a false equivalence by comparing Football with Cricket - get a grip.

Oh, Footy fans do count friendlies in head to head stats.

Lets talk about our ashes then, sure. Pakistan vs India in tests. Lets look those stats up, Can you use them to show India is definitively superior?

So H2H test records matter to you but H2H ODI records dont? Why are you being such a baby, dude?

Good for you if you believe that. That was an unprecedented record in cricket and actually, the ODI WC streak that started in '92 is still alive and Pakistan would get a chance to break that too in front of the Indian crowd in about an year's time.

Of course any streak in any sport would have a lot of factors going for it, but it's like trivialising Nadal's Roland Garros streak as something of a statistical anomaly and that it happened only because Nadal played in his favourable surface.

We don't have an Ashes. I might be wrong but I think the Test record is something like 12-9 in favour of Pakistan. This would take just a series of two to reverse it, let's be honest here.

I don't like it.

Last night LFC destroyed Man Utd. The LFC fans sang 'Ole at the wheel' for 30 mins straight :))) We 'hate' Utd and will not let them forget this crushing defeat for years.

Pakistan shouldn't be humble to India, a nation which wants to bomb us. Sure its sport but they are using cricket to hurt us too.

If it was a close in, sure no point. But this was humiliating , 10 wicket win like a walk in a park with your puppy.

India is an arrogant, overrated team, full of Bollywood IPL rockstars. Imagine if Pak had the same resources, we would dominate them for decades to come.

pakistan fans aren't arrogant like Indian fans. We know how to be humble and realistic. We dont chest thump and do bhangra proclaiming our side is best team in history of the game.

Im sure those Arrogant indian fans mamoon, and many others are enjoying eating humble pie for now.

This Pakistan always have been humble n gracious because no matter how good you are you will lose from time to time so better stay humble than be embarrased

No team is bigger than the game Hope some of indias fans learn this

Sure, like I said, whatever floats your boat and helps you sleep better at night. We have two major championships wins over India at the world stage. The Asian test championship and the ICCT.

You can enjoy your World Cup superiority to you thst matters more and to us the other records and overall superior test record matters more. Let’s just leave it at that. No point convincing each other who is right.

That’s it. The older of us fans who have lived through our absolute dominance of India know even then we didn’t go cuckoo over it. We were always very level headed and humble. Our faith demands it too! Be humble because India could win the next game in this very same tournament. That’s how sports competitions are. By the way there are a lot of humble Indian fans too but we don’t see that because .. well they are humble. Only the loud ones get noticed.

Leave the Mauqa mauqa stuff to the little people.

No need to stoop down to their level.

Sports and especially Pak-Ind cricket should stay away from hateful political agendas.

PS: What NZ did by cancelling the tour is the most disgraceful thing ever in history of all sports. IMO it is worse than fixing etc. This disgusting act by NZC genuinely made me (and probably many more people) stop following cricket. Shameless bunch these Kiwis.

I never came across a single Pakistani fan bragging after the 2017 CT final win because all of them were humble and down to earth as demanded by their faith:narine

Let's get this clear. Indian's were in red hot form having trashed England and Australia in the Warm Ups and having the IPL so close to the WC. There was zero excuse for them to be defeated by ten wickets against the under dogs Pakistan.

Why are our players being so humble in victory

Because they are gentlemen, and gentlemen don’t crow.

And because they know the game can change very fast so hubris can bike you on the backside.

Good for you, I suggest you move on from that butt hurt as well. Maybe just focus on the overall World Cup record and try preaching around to everyone that’s all that matters. I think that’s a better way to drown your sorrows..

Oh wait… yeah that’s right.. Kind of already doing that.. yeah sorry, bud.. I got nothing else fer ya at the moment!

We get the same points for defeating India then anyone else. I would rather lose to India and win the tournament then the other way around. I don't want to become all childish like the Indian fans and media do even if we did them ever so easily yesterday.

The 1990s Pak fans were pretty wild and gung-ho, from my experience. Not sure what circles you were moving around in though. Let people celebrate however they want.

Nah it was just amusing to watch all the mutual backpatting about "we're humble, we're humble. Our religion teaches us humility" and the irony of it all made it hard not to butt in, I'm sorry.:narine

Carry on with the humble back patting sessions, sorry for my disturbance.

This is the first time in the history that I have been mighty impressed and happy with Pakistan's performance in their game yesterday.

The reason behind it is the sheer professionalism and gentlemanly spirit that Pakistani cricketers have shown. It is commendable and praiseworthy.

The gung ho Pakistani side of past behaved like how Krunal Pandya behaves after bowling one dot ball in a T20 game.

They are plenty of unconfirmed evidence that match (1999 world cup) was thrown /fixed. However we will never learn the truth and nothing ever was proven.
Even that 1992 match should have been won by Pakistan but the umpire gave a wrong runout, Imran Khan clearly made the ground (in slow mo replay) but was given run out, back then there was no DRS or tv umpire for run outs. Imran was the crucial wicket.

But law of averages will always even out.

Your bitterness is just reaching a zenith now. Celebrating a victory and patting each other in the back is now being equated to the garbage that’s spewed by your countrymen? I think just for the moqa moqa stuff, if you had any shame you would be quiet but let’s not even pretend to not see what’s going on here. The sarcasm won’t hide the bitterness, the constant manipulation and self convincing of what really matters won’t fool anybody either.
I can offer just a crumb of comfort to you, the tournament ain’t over and India might best Pakistan if we meet again. Take that and be happy please. Thank you!

We will never know about the 99 game but I am still hurting losing to an attack that included the likes of Mohanty, Robin Singh and Tendulkar.
