Why does Henry Nicholls keep getting selected?

New Zealand have played a lot of Cricket this past year giving me a chance to keep up with majority of their games especially home games as the timing for Live games works perfect.

Henry Nicholas is someone who has been consistently selected in their playing 11, which brings me to address the elephant in the room.

He has to be one of the worst cricketers in the circuit right now, every time I watch him bat he gets dismissed to a ridiculous shot with a subpar score, walking wicket.

Surely New Zealand have a young prospect in the waiting that they can start grooming, correct me if I'm wrong but we haven't seen many debutants from there in recent times.

Maybe you guys who have a better idea who have followed him for a longer period of time can explain to me if it's just me who thinks this way about him or if he's actually any good or was good at one point?

Dude what the hell have you been watching? He averages 43.4 in tests and is rated #6.

2 "poor" innings doesn't make him a bad player.

Henry Nicholls has improved over the past 3-4 years and has turned out to be a decent middle-order batsman. However, the most bizarre selection is Jeet Raval... New Zealand has kept on selecting him since 2016, so he has had 3 years, more than enough time to prove himself, but he is trash, he rarely gets a fifty and has only got one hundred vs Bangladesh at home (and anyone can get a hundred vs Bangladesh at their home country).

He is a good batsmen, won NZ the series in UAE, a great inning it was. But he is a little inconsistent and can go through bad patch.

I think if he brings more discipline in his game, he can actually have a good career, quite like what we are witnessing in Latham and Watling these days.

NZ only major struggle is the top order position where they don't have any replacement for Jeet Raval. Rest all positions seem to be filled up.

I was a doubter before but he has scored runs the last few years.

He was in the ICC test team of the year for last season

What a ridiculous thread.

He is New Zealand's next big thing, and has done quite well uptil now, in a year or so he will easily become New Zealand's second best batsman.

An excellent ton once again on the toughest Day 1 pitch at the basin reserve in recent times. The bowling was subpar but he negotiated plenty of seam movement to make that daddy ton.

One of the most underrated batsmen in the game today. With Taylor edging closer to retirement, expect him to gain more recognition in the middle-order.

He has a lot of character hence he is doing well in tests. Excellent find for New Zealand.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Test batter Henry Nicholls has been accused of breaking New Zealand Cricket’s code of conduct after being reported by umpires for ball tampering in a domestic first-class match this week.

Television footage of the Plunket Shield match between Nicholls’ Canterbury province and Auckland appears to show Nicholls brushing the ball against a helmet during a change of ends.

Nicholls has been reported for allegedly breaching Rule 3.1, article 1.15 of the Code during Day 3 of the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Auckland at Hagley Oval, New Zealand Cricket said in a statement Friday.

The rule involves changing the condition of the ball in breach of Law 41.3 of the Laws of Cricket.

Surprised that any Kiwi player would do this. They are normally gentlemen who follow rules of the game.

Nicholls cleared of misconduct

Canterbury batsman Henry Nicholls has been cleared of breaching Rule 3.1, article 1.15 of the Code of Conduct during Day 3 of last week’s Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Auckland at Hagley Oval.

Rule 3.1, article 1.15 involves changing the condition of the ball in breach of Law 41.3 of the Laws of Cricket.

A disciplinary hearing conducted yesterday by independent commissioners Lee Robinson and John Greenwood examined evidence and heard submissions from Nicholls, match umpires, Kim Cotton and Derek Walker, Canterbury coach Peter Fulton, Canterbury High Performance Manager Ant Sharp, and New Zealand Cricket Players Association representative, Evan Jones.

The Commissioners found that neither the actions of Nicholls nor the evidence presented met the threshold required to rule a breach of the Code under Rule 3.1 Article 1.15 (Appendix A).

“We find the Player’s actions were, in fact, unlikely to alter the condition of the ball or the shape of the ball,” they noted.

That meant any allegation of unacceptable behaviour under Rule 3.1 could not be upheld.

The charge against the Player was therefore dismissed.
