I'm not sure if he's an upgrade on Abrar with the ball but if he's within 10% of his abilities, he gets in because he can bat a little and he's a very good fielder.

I remember Misbah was dropped and came back as captain, same with Shan Masood and now Shadab.

Shadab was a fine leg spin talent when he started with a world of potential. Now he is a decent utility bits and pieces T20 player unfortunately.

Only in Pakistan a player who has no business in T20 is made the national team captain too.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. He isn't going to play in longer formats and there is no harm in a bits and pieces cricketer in T20. He understands modern T20 better than most other Pakistani players too. No harm trying him as captain. Rizwan is not T20 captain material.
 
Since Apr 2023,

Shadab averages 60 with the ball at 9.6 economy and 13 with the bat in T20I's.

Pakistan's standards are dropping rapidly if this guy is now captain.

Huge talent crisis if they are going back to Shadab :inti
 
Pakistan currently need a second spinner in the white balls side. Shadab is more of a allrounder. I also believe Khushdil will get a fair crack at No.6 now.
 
Shadab is what we needed at no 7, with empasis on bowling and bit of agression with the bat but unfortunately he is not the bowler he used to be...I dont think he has done any thing of note in the last 2 years.
However, if he does get his act right he could be the 2nd spinner we need in Odis, a bowler who bats as oppose to a batter who bowls like Salman and Khushdil.

Misbah came in with 10 years of captaincy experience with Pakistan A and first class.

Alot of these other guys come in as captain with no captaincy experience.

Shadab is t20 captain. Misbah was first class and one day captain for 10 years in domestic and pakistan A.

You learn and gain more experience as captain in First class and one day cricket

Misbah spent so much time in domestic cricket that all other available captaincy candidates either passed away or retired, point is, he was never good enough for international cricket until Pakistan’s talent pool ran dry and he was given a free pass in 2010 after he humiliated Pakistan in 2007 & 2011. They just wanted a sharif numpty to convince the world we’re not bad guys and Misbah was a good monkey/mascot to parade on the international stage for that purpose.

If we apply the Misbah model to Shadab Khan, we’d effectively be ending his prime years. Shadab has more ability then Misbah ever had so it makes no sense that we hold him back.

he should be part of t20 team as he energetic player even if he only bowls 2 overs he can cover it with bat & field to justify his position
 
The whole world uses bilateral limited over series to groom new young talent for the future, whereas, Pakistan either plays their main team and celebrate beating C or D teams like they won the World Cup or go back to playing TTF only to replace them with other TTFs for ICC tournaments.

Pakistani system is rotten to the core, not just in cricket but in the entire country, first you need to change that, cricket will automatically improve.

He should just be a specialist captain. The dude has a very sharp cricketing mind. It's no coincidence that he's one of PSL and donestics most successful captain even winning a Champions cup despite having a rubbish squad, in a tournament deliberately designed to make rizwan look good since the teams were woefully unbalanced in rizzu's. All misbah's rubbish plan.

He even managed to win one game vs afg despite having an atrociously bad side. That afg vs Pakistan series was deliberately created to allow pcb an excuse to bring babar and rizwan back.

Pakistan wanted domestic performers, and with the exception of saim and haris, Everyone of these frauds were frauds.

Seriously what are Abdullah Shafique, Azam Khan, Muhammad Nawaz, zaman Khan and Faheem ashraf all doing in a one playing 11? That too a t20 one.

The fact he managed to win one game against a full strength Afghanistan at all is a miracle. Babar wouldn't have done zilch in said position.

As a captain he knows how to use himself as a bowler and batter and fielder. He himself is a rubbish player but atleast he knows this and knows how to use himself and his resources well.

However he should only be a t20 captain. Odi will be a horror show since no matter how good you are, a dead weight is a dead weight in odi. Can't hide yourself for 50 overs.
 
Why do people criticize shadab when he bats? Pakistan needs proper all rounders and thats the only way we can develop all rounder by giving them confdence and sending them early. iF SHADAB WITH BAT contributes more than proper batters, then why hate him? If he plays in top 6, his major role will be to bat well and contributes some overs with Agha. Look at india team balance, They bat till 8 because of all rounders. Wwe want to produce all rounders but we also dint want to give them opportunities.
 
Shadab add nothing to the team with the bat and actually weakens the team with his terrible bowling. Even his fielding is overrated. In world cricket terms he's an average fielder, nothing special.

The funny thing is that the RizBar fans would happily take Rizwan as a specialist captain but not Shadab now, or Sarfaraz in the past.

I wouldn't mind rizwan as a specialist captain if he didn't have the mindset of a toddler.

This dude maybe 32 with a beard, but in actuality he's 5.

Shadab is among the best all-rounders in the world today. Sad to see such a talented player not find a place in the team.

PCB should bring him back in the team as captain. He is prophesied to lead the team to glory. :inti
 
To see the comments about Shadab here - being a good player/deserving his place shows the lack of knowledge.

Shadab has become a TTS failure.

Azam khan back then was a failure too , scoring 0 and 1 or 2runs and then dropped for the 3rd T20...

He is too me the highest level of parchi / nepotism... Azam should be named as Mr. Nepotism..
 
In a recent TV show he mentioned he was working very hard on his bowling with his father in law Saqlain Mushtaq and that he had fitness issues with his groin, back, side in the last few years due to which he had to change his action but he has now determined to get back to his bowling action and style from 2017.

However we see Shadab the bowler come back with the same bowling action and style that we last saw from him in the T20 WC in 2024 ie flat, short, rushing through the overs, defensive bowling trajectory, zero loop, zero leg spin and his googly which was his lethal weapon in 2017 is all but gone.

I know he had been playing domestic cricket and he had been given permission to play a T10 league by the PCB but even in the domestic games he played, he was mostly scoring 50's but his bowling was nothing much to write home about.

Let's be clear here, Shadab the batsman is likely to only perform in two out of 7 matches, his batting alone is not good enough to warrant selection in the team alone. He used to be a very handy effective cricketer for Pakistan in the white ball format because of his leg spinners, flippers, googly and his ability to take wickets in the middle overs and that is all gone. He is no better than a part timer.

On what basis did the selectors and PCB recall him when he hasn't sorted out his bowling
 
Scored useful 26 off 14 balls today in the 2nd T20 game against Kiwis.... His real test be while bowling...

Yeah... He is still pathetic as a bowler... bowled 1 over today and almost all of them were half-trackers.
 
He has the best strike rate among Pak batters which makes him the best middle order batsman of Pakistan in this format
 
Boy's bowling was not good and now we are seeing that his fielding is having some lapses as well.

What did Shadab do to merit a re-election? I am extremely disappointed with him, his downfall has been rapid and sad. He is nothing but a total bit part player. It's difficult to know which is worse, batting or bowling.

Saim comes in automatically after injury.. for Samad i guess..

Unpopular opinion but I’d keep him in the allrounder slot.

We are trying so many different positions right now I’d focus on that.

We are also trying out full time spinners which will have more opportunity having an experience spinner sharing the workload with them.

But be shouldn’t be batting up the order.
 
Shady is 100 % playing the next World T20. Was the best bowler in the Lanka Premier League and next World T20 will be in SL.

Performances on NZ pitches don't matter.

It's an unpopular opinion for a reason. The only all-rounder about him is his complete inability to bat, bowl or field. What's the point of "experience", if he's only imparting bad habits and adding pressure on his teammates instead of sharing the workload.

Shadab must be dropped ASAP.
 
Will be between him and Khushdil given we already have Salman as spinner and Samad And Niazi are far better batsmen than both khushdil and shadab
 
You don't need another spinner when you have Abrar, Khushdil & Agha. Replace him with a batter.

Surprised Tayyab or Sahibzada weren't in consideration. I would even look at Saud Shakeel.

This T20 team could do with proper batters, not supposed "All Rounders".

I don’t see any amazing allrounders right now. And we haven’t locked down our permanent spinner spot. Having a spin allrounder helps this.

And like it or not shadab is our best performing allrounder in PSL.

We are testing out new spin options even with shadab in the team. And it actually helps having shadab there for comparison.

I just don’t think we’re stronger with shadab out the side even with him out of form.

The experience factor is more that it is bad to have too many new players trying out at the same time. It puts greater pressure on them. That’s all. Having said that even if you forget experience as a complete package right now I don’t think we have a viable alternative option.
 
If Khushdil and Salman can trust themselves to bowl 2 overs each in T20s, then there is no space for Shadab. Pak can try another 'hack' soon to become a world beater batter in their line up.

Then again, if Arafat or Qasim Akram's bowling is the strong suit, then one of them should be given a 'go' ... if they're batters first then we've got Khushdil and Salman already.

Need to take a long term approach to this. We know Shadab will not improve. He's already declining and bringing others down with his complete inability at international level. Why not invest in a younger player with potential and help them grow into an international standard player rather than persist with someone who is only getting worse.
 
His career should be ovver now... Pathetic

I think the reason he keeps on getting recalled because he smiles a lot, good looking and the father in law connection. His performances in the last 4 years does not justify him as an international cricketer.

But now a few good all round performances in the upcoming fake PSL tournament will mean he will keep his spot in the Pak T20 squad.

Because he has zero cricket related reasons and zero performances.

Yes he provides much needed balance by ensuring that he is equally rubbish with both bat and ball. He doesn’t discriminate.
