Why does Pakistan only play 2 Test series lately?

Over the next 4 years, Pakistan has only 2 series with more than 3 tests and both of them are away series in which scheduling is not in the hands of the PCB but the home board.

This leads me to think that PCB prefers it when Pakistan play 2 tests only, why do you think that is? Is all the crying about big 3 misplaced when it is clear that our own board is always chasing after money and never caring for the future of the sport.

Money.

T20 brings lot of casual viewership and revenue compared to tests. So they have to be accommodated.

Other than Ashes series all test series will be bringing less revenue than T20/ODIs

It is ridiculous but I guess with no test cricket at home, the margins are just not good enough to accommodate more than two tests.

Who are they playing more than 2 tests against? And where are these series?

I believe most teams play 2 matches nowadays. It is generally not profitable to have many Test matches. ODI and T20 brings in more revenue.

I get the impression that the top teams are doing a favour to Pakistan by playing them and just restricting it to a 2 test match series followed by a 3 ODI match series. We all know that the Big 3 just want to play each other all the time.

PCB isn’t interested in Test cricket at all - it may have some financial issue now since PAK is forced to play in UAE at premium cost but it was not the case in past. PCB simply doesn’t bother about Test cricket, never tried to make it entertaining and never tried to make it popular. Today, if Test cricket is played in PAK, even against India, I doubt how many people will visit the ground - the reason not being finance for sure, rather because the game was categorically made boring in PAK and new generation developed a disgusting feeling about Test cricket.

70-75 overs per day before Umpires call it for light, 2.6-7 RR, at average 5-6 wickets per day unless it’s a rank under prepared track, slow low tracks where batsmen can’t play shots neither bowlers can express themselves, 80% wickets either through bowled or LBW..... and by day 3, the side slightly behind starts to waste time, because they just don’t have enough time left to make a come back in a game destined for 360-370 overs - better try to avoid defeat. In PAK only option to win a Test is bowl first and get an advantage in first inning - those classic Test matches with twists & turns of 4 innings are non existent; hence most games are boring (even result games, where one side has a massive advantage by day 3, then other side try to save the Test, eventually losing it)

These days PAK is like 6th (or 7th?) ranked Test team, so not much to say but it wasn’t the case in 2000 when a star studded PAK team went to play 2 Tests in ENG, preparing Poms for the all important Ashes - those days only ZIM & SRL used to play 1-2 Tests in UK. Since then, PAK is the first major team to devalue themselves by playing 2 Test series - started with WIN, NZ & SAF, now AUS as well. In fact, it was 1974 when PAK played a 2 Test series against WIN, when IND-WIN used to play 5-6 Tests in every two years .... so, I guess money isn’t/wasn’t the only issue here.

At least, for sometimes let’s call a spade as spade. This is quite nauseating to be honest that these days, everything related to PAK cricket comes with an excuse, victim mentality or bullying - can’t we accept for once that PCB is incompetent, corrupt and backed by arrogance which isn’t helping the cause?

Valid question raised.

I think it has something to do with PCB not giving it as much preference but I personally never understood the point of 2 match test series and I am not sure how ICC allow that on regular basis as matches in any format should be atleast 3 to give ample chance for any team to be the clear winner.

2 Tests for a series are way too less. Even 3 Tests are a little disappointing for me. I want proper 4 Test series.

No country other than Eng and Aus care about test cricket. Test cricket is a money sinkhole, it's not feasible for other countries in 21st century.

This has been issue with Pakistan for long long time.

At least Pakistan should try to play 3 Test series against Ireland or Bangladesh . Its very important to play at least 10 - 12 test matches every year.

Add India to that list, they always prefer to play full test series (4/5 tests) against a quality team & Kohli has gone on record saying he prefers tests to ODIs or T20s.

It might be a financial sinkhole visually, but no doubt test cricket separates the men from the boys. And even though the stadium audience might be at an all-time low, there is usually enough TV/app audience for a good Test series to make it financially viable.

Coz know one really watches Test matches anymore. They are too long for today's fast world where people want instant entertainment.

Poor planning and lack of foresight....

Zero responsibility..and authority

Teams like NZ SA also plays less but not 2 test series

When ur team is started to perform well in a format u organise more such series matches to cash in..... But not Pakistan

When u won tests in UK and started looking competitive u play less a few matches..

And now only 3 ODIS IN 12 months..... ridiculous to say least....

Test cricket is still best.... And nobody can change it....it's unique and so are the other formats ... We need all 3......

The financial costs would be too much to host tests in UAE and expect to play 3 games. Limited overs are more lucrative as you get a bigger audience.

I doubt anybody championing Test cricket here has watched a full session let alone a full Test match.

The series is usually already decided in the first 2 games anyway in Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. Why waste time on a dead rubber?

Why new Zealand? We lost in 2016, but we won in 2010/11, won 2003/04, drew 1-1 in 2001 and 2009/10.

2 test match series are just a disgrace. Whenever we got to Australia, England i want us to play at least 4 test matches.

Scheduling is a big issue for Pakistan Cricket. Not only are we not playing enough tests, but series are structured incorrectly and their are big gaps between series. This doesn't help test specialists.
