Why doesn’t BCCI (and state bodies) upgrade stadiums to have world-class facilities?

As a men’s international venue maybe but for women’s cricket, domestic cricket the venue will remain busy. Keep in mind cricket is big in Bharat. Lot of domestic competitions and celebrity/corporate leagues are happening all the time.

Yeah I think it has hosted every semi final of icc tournament before being snubbed for WC 2023
 
BCCi has invested well in infrastructure, world class stadiums all across the country , infact some IPL teams have 2x home venues like Punjab Kings , Delhi
 
Actually 5 stadiums are under construction

1) GOrakhpur international cricket stadium
2) Varanasi international cricket stadium (Capacity 40000)
3) Udaipur international cricket stadium (Capacity 35000)
4) Mangalairi international cricket stadium
5) Rajgir international stadium (capacity 45000)

The Kotla or whatever the heck it’s called today looks like a parking garage! In my younger days I used to play there and the stadium was still not that great but at least it looked like a cricket ground with an iconic feel when you walked in. But this one looks so crass! I’m sure BCCI with all its money could have arm twisted Delhi and District Cricket Association to get a real architect to design an attractive structure and make it iconic. Shameful!

Kotla is the craphouse of all stadiums in India.

Not many know or might remember that the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was also used for some matches. It was crazy because it had the hard running tracks along its perimeter for races and if the ball bounced there after an airy shot, it would very easily bounce well over the fielder. Obviously sliding was out of question, it was very rough and hard. I watched India vs WI veterans match there and saw Richards’ power on a pitch with zero movement. Thankfully, and perhaps due to rules, no international match was played there.
There are several private / club owned cricket grounds in and around Delhi that have sprung up lately but back in the days Roshanara Club ground and Karnail Singh Stadium were other well known places for reasonably serious cricket.
 
All these stadiums are built but the spectator experience still remains the same. It's a pain to watch matches in Ind or SC cricket stadiums. They don't give a hoot for the paying fans. Treated like animals. Inadequate water facilities, unclean disgusting toilets, poor ticket management, no proper parking. Wont blame bcci because if stupid fans accept these and still visit the stadiums, it's on them. Stop visiting the stadiums and hopefully bcci will act.

Compare that to watching games in UK, aus, SA, Dubai stadiums and it's day vs night difference. The ind newer stadiums are.made for TV , look good on TV but the ground facilities are s*** to be honest.

They don't really look good on TV either.
 
The Stadia and facilities in india are Top draw. BCCI has invested well for the future of Indian cricket.

Wankhede Mumbai
Chepauk Chennai
Chinnaswammy Bengaluru
Kotla Delhi
Eden Gardens Calcutta :jayasuriya
And some other names
HPCA Indore where Sehwag scored 200
Guwahati where SRT scored 200
Ranchi MSD hometown

Just having a huge number of stadiums means nothing. The fan experience at Ind cricket stadiums is horrible. No need to sugar coat the bcci or the horrible stadium experience
 
Don’t know how true this report is but I expected this at some point that there will be issues between IPL owners and State cricket associations who own the stadiums.

Eventually all major clubs would want to have their own stadiums like in Football, NBA etc

Chinnaswamy has folded seats everywhere. The vacant seats fold up on their own. Many other grounds have similar auto-folding seats.

But even when people are sitting down, grounds like Delhi have acres of space to manspread and walk around. Then you have grounds like Wankhede where space is a premium, seats are strangely built for slim fit individuals only. So the answer is, it depends.
 
The one thing consistently ignored by BCCI who has all the gadzillions to splash around and Bharat Sarkar and the local associations is the comfort and spectator experiences of the average johnnie citizen who has turned up to support his/her team and possibly bring his young kids, the future of the game.
to sit on a piece of fertilizer plastic seat and be roasted in 33-39 deg heat with no roof, pathetic water, toilet facilities, other comforts, food which is overpriced and tastes like swamp guano is not a good return and has no comparison with NZ, Aus other countries.
from personal experience, i have viewed matches at IPCL grounds, Vadodara, Gwalior, jawaharlal nehru stadium in cochin and the grand master of them all - the glorified municipal truck parking lot stadium plastered with paan masala adv's that you woudl never want your kids to ever visit - the ferozshah kotla - Delhi- our capital....
I will never go there again!

With upgradations many grounds are now moving to more comfortable folding seats.

A VIP box was locked after SRH refused to give out extra complementary passes during their home game against Lucknow Super Giants on March 27

BCCI is still doing a better job than PCB. Not just in terms of stadiums, but in all departments.

I am starting to get a feeling maybe we are building more stadiums than needed.

All these surplus funds need to be used carefully.

It’s one thing building big stadiums and another thing to maintain them in pristine condition which is only possible if regular international, IPL games are played there.

As we speak like 6-8 brand new stadiums are being built. We already have 50 international stadiums.

Ideally these stadiums should be used for both cricket & music concerts - like we saw for Coldplay recently. That wud be financially viable

I mean we have got to be bit careful.
Its very common When there are surplus funds people spend like crazy. All the tax money and BCCI revenues must be utilized carefully and not just to boost the ego of local politicians who all seem to be in a race to outdo each other in building cricket stadiums when the fact is there is already a lot of competition among existing venues for IPL, International matches. Coldplay kind of shows wont happen in many small cities.

Same thing has been happening with metros. So many cities are building metro without proper cost analysis. Occupancy rate in most metros other than Delhi NCR and some other major tier 1 cities isn’t very good meaning they’re will be running into losses for years.
