Why don't Pakistani players care about fitness?

Every other cricketer I watch is extremely fit with ripped or close to ripped bodies like the Aussies, English, Saffers and even the Indian players.

Why don't our players take nutrition and fitness seriously? It's embarrassing to see Sarfaraz, Harris and their physiques. Even Babar looks like a toothpick and needs to build muscle to up his power game.

This is a career for these guys and they can prolong it and do better by taking their fitness seriously. Do they simply not have the passion to play for their country and be the best like Kohli and others?

Is this a deeply rooted problem in our culture where food is given too much importance? Is desi food simply too hard to give up?

Discuss.

Who said they don't care?

I can talk with Indian point of view. Here fitness become important from last decade and now gym culture is very popular in India. In my circle everyone hit gym but same is not a decade ago.

I think fitness has least to do with passion , it's more about culture which surely lacking in PCT.

You need someone like Kohli a leading example in ur team , who can inspire other to become fit to achieve excellence in their field.

Indian team become fitness obsessed thanks to Kohli and somehow to our changing culture where fitness is given as importance as other aspects in our life.

You think our Pakistani players will find it easy to give up Pakistani delicacies like karhai, daal, saag, keema, biryani, lassi etc

It is hard for even a normal person. You go a week without Pakistani food and you will have a real craving for it.

The key is to have excellent world class cooks who can make healthy food delicious

One word for it. Culture!

Our best form of evening or weekend entertainment is eating out.

I’m not sure I believe the leading by example fitness role model.

IMran Khan and Wasim Aidan we’re both very physically conditioned yet they didn’t inspire anyone.

All starts from a young age. They aren't encouraged to eat right and look after themselves like a professional athlete. 1 of our greatest ever batsmen Inzamam didn't take fitness seriously so that doesn't help. Younger players will think fitness isn't in important. But it's vital in the modern game. Allows you to turn 1s into 2s and save runs in the field.

There have been weird comments from ex Pakistani players that losing weight caused them to lose batting form. Nasir Jamshed and even Inzi were guilty of saying that. UA said he retains every ounce of water he swallows. When you have perceptions like these, why will anyone go out of their comfort zones to get fitter? Sarfi probably thinks that losing his belly would make him tip backwards while crouching to keep the wickets.

I agree our Test team has players with bellies like Sarfraz, Haris, Abbas, Yasir and Bilal.

But the LOI team only has 2 unfit guys in Sarfraz and Haris. The rest 80-90% are good.

Indians need to stop the elitism. They have guys like Rayudu and Rohit with bellies. Every team does.

To say that Pakistanis don't care about fitness is ridiculous.

Waiting for thread to be hijacked by Inzi, Lehman, Aravinda, Ranatunga supporters

Fitness’ = overated Afghans fat Shahzad cleanest hitter if the ball in sub continent.

It's cultural. These things don't change overnight. It needs a change from the top, i.e. the government, before we will see a change in society away from unhealthy diets and limited exercise. The current Pakistan cricket team just represents the attitudes that exist in Pakistani society towards fitness and healthy living.

We have never really had a fitness culture in the side. I think our players still eat plenty of kebabs, biryanis, buttered roti's and curry's as well. It takes a few players to change the culture and motivate other players by having a disciplined diet. One word always lacking in our players has been "discipline".

I am sorry, this applies to the entire nation.

Even Kohli did not find it easy, he has mentioned many times it was torture for him to battle the hunger pangs and to resist the temptation of delicious sub continent food in 2012-13 when he decided to completely adopt a Spartan fitness lifestyle.
