Why has the 'War on Terror' Failed?

^^^ Gilly just to add:

Unlike Christianity, which has hierarchies, Priests, Bishops, Cardinals, Deacons, Arch Deacons etc., there are no similar hierarchies (not amongst Sunnis anyway) in Islam.

So in Australia the Grand Mufti is not a true muslim.

The Quran is a book written by people.

I think you are either not communicating very well intentionally or don't want to. Why do you say grand mufti is not a Muslim?

I am sure he is. Please don't take my answer to your previous question out of context. There bare religious scholars in Islam. But they are not the spiritual heads in the same vein as the Pope, bishops and cardinals etc. they are simply there to provide guidance using their o iwledge of quran and fiqh (Islamic law based on the prophets sayings and actions)

Most of the bigger issues are already discussed in detail in Quran and fiqh books. If there is a new issue, there is a process called Ijma in Islam where the leading scholars of the time come together to make a ruling or decision based on the laws and existing precedent. It's not a dictatorship or praetorship where one or two or a select group makes their own stuff as they go along.

Let me give you can example: consuming alcohol is forbidden according to the Quran. Because it can make you lose your senses and can be addictive. Based on that, the scholars can surmise that any similar substances will also be forbidden. It's not like they can come up with a whole new set of protocols.

There is also qayas .. which is for average joes in absence of a scholar or ijma. Which basically says that if you come across a problem or dilemma that doesn't have any official ruling or if you don't have access to immediate scholarly guidance, you can use your better judgment keeping the Islamic values in mind.

So you see Islam is much more progressive and forward thinking and democratic if you will compared to other religions.

Now if someone masquerading as a scholar convinced you to strap bombs to yourself and go blow up innocents, you don't have a sound basic grounding in Islamic education, morality and ethics and you are letting yourself get brainwashed by evil.

We call such so called religious fanatics khawarij.. they have existed in almost every era of Islam and caused problems for Muslims/non-Muslims alike.

They are people who follow a demented, in humane way of living and their methods are completely UN Islamic.

The popular phrase to describe them these days is Islamic extremists or radical jihadists when quite honestly, they should not even be called Muslims. They are NOT Muslims.

Hopefully this will clear your views on religion and it's role a bit.
