Why is it so hard for Pakistan to develop a #6/7 batsman?

I nerver really understood why is it hard to find / develop batsmen in the lower order? Is it because they just dont spend enough time harnessing/working on that aspect of their game? I understand they have other aspects of thier game that they concentrate on, but surley they must recognize this is also important.
Pakistan for the longest time have had long tail to their line up.
Love to know your thoughts

We've used Kamran as a 6 or 7 before... don't know how the hell he became a opener for Pakistan....same for Hafeez

while Sarfraz is used as a 6... while he should actually be an opener.... blame selectors and management

But why can not the bowlers spend more time on their batting skills, should this not help with shortening the tail.
So many times you see close games where the lower end 6 through 9 can make a huge difference just on the mind of the opposing team

What are you onto OP after Afridi razzaq era this is the best lower order we have, Shadab is good enough for no. 8 amir a very handy number 9 and hassan has good hitting potential at 10,only jk is proper no. 11,

we dont have good allrounders thts why we dont have number 6, 7 batsman

its for a bowler who can slog some quick runs like wasim, razzaq etc

Yes i agree with the above, but i beleived they batted well above 7or 8.
I guess what i am reaaly asking is why dont lower order batsmen spend more time on improving their batting.
And yes also we need atleast two all rounders, wonder if we already have them or do still need. To keep looking?

Faheem Ashraf can be a quality number 7. Cracking hitter and sharp bowler. Get him in ASAP along with Amir Yamin, and the problems are solved!

IMHO these days number 6th batting position is one of the hardest in LOI cricket. This is because your job description keeps changing from match to match.

One day you may have to come in and tuk tuk like no tomorrow to save a sinking ship, some other day you may have to just knock it around and chase a run a ball target, and on yet another day you may have to come in and blast it from ball one.

It's not just a Pakistani problem. India have a misfiring Dhoni batting at 6 since the dawn of time. Australia have no stable number 6 since the time of Hussey. Saffers have Miller but he is severely hit or miss. The only team who has nailed down the number 6 position is England with Buttler. He seems to be a natural in that role.

I never thought of it this way but you do bring in very valid points/insight to the batting position. Then i would imagine 5 and 6 could be very flexiable positions depending on the match situation at the time.
Having said that we still need our tailenders starting from 7 down to have clear fucs on the their batting, that extra 30 to 50 runs can make a huge difference.
A few of the posters names Amir as a decent bat, he is but we need more from the likes of him

Because we've wasted almost a decade on trying to groom players for the spot with the last name of Akmal. Try any other last name in that spot and it will yield far better results.

Would love a Ben Stokes type player in this team. We still are giving people an opportunity like Ashraf. It's up to him to take it with both hands.

We keep giving a fraud and TTF like UAkmal countless chances at 6. You can't expect someone to develop if they aren't given chances.

Maybe because we forced players like Umar Akmal to play at no.6 for 5-6 years instead of finding a logical solution to the problem. Umar was never going to work there with his attitude, he only ever wanted to play at 3-4.

It is upto the selectors to identify the potential in a player and give him proper chance .
It is impossible that there are no players for that position. They have been playing wrong players at those positions.
For now fahim ashraf and shadab can be developed i believe.

Poor techniques. Which is pretty hard to comprehend considering most of them start as tape-ball players. Must be the out-dated coaching they get when they get into club and domestic teams.

Anyway, if Sharjeel gets back i like the look of this team.

1. Sharjeel
2. Azhar
3. Babar
4. Fakhar
5. Sarfaraz.
6. Malik
7. Faheem
8. Shadab
9. Amir
10. Hasan
11. Junaid

Butler and Moeen are hit and miss too.

SL's number 6 Angelo Matthews is probably the best at that role right now.

Fahim Ashraf is very under-rated here. Think he is a wonderful prospect as a hard-hitter down the order. He won an impossible match against Bangladesh single-handedly at a beast strike-rate.

There is one constant occupant of 6/7 position and that is Sarfraz....

Umar Akmal was the occupant of no 6 position for 5 years. Sarfraz only occupied that position after England series.

While Sarfi should move at no 5/4, Umar Akmal isnt the solution either. Umar hardly finish matches for Pakistan even with 'luck'.
