Why is there no outrage in our media on people like Azam Khan being openly abused on Social Media?

Credit to the Western media and respective sports organizations for raising issue of abuse against their players on social media. Whether its personal or race based, abuse is abuse.

So here is my question.

Azam Khan is being called names and abused left and right on Social Media about his weight/appearance.

Where is the outrage on that?

Social media abuse is toxic and based on his appearances he will be targetted but him coming from the SC, its nothing he wouldnt have faced everyday. Its a part of growing up here.

And because of that I guess he would know how to shut them up or ignore them and carry on. Prithvi Shaw gets similar comments as well. Its how it is.

Its quite different. He is obviously not in the team on merit and secondly he is being abused for something that is within his control and negatively impacts his performance.

Pakpassion are in a good position when it comes to Pakistani sports media so you guys could be pioneers and release a media statement in support of Azam, the same way that western media outlets do in support of their abused players.

Lead from the front and others that you perhaps rightly criticise ,may also follow.

This is not our call.

PCB/supporters need to raise that in the media.

Problem is in our society we accept such abuse as chalta hai

West doesnt.

And your point on Azam:

Whether he is in the team on merit etc is an opinion - its not a fact.

We do not know why he cannot lose weight

Fact is it doesnt matter what the reasons are but NO one should be abused in any language like that

Agreed to an extent....but when you bypass the system in the way that him and his father did then people will act emotionally. Azam being selected is the biggest scandal in recent Pakistan history and when people have no outlet for legitimate criticism then you will find that they turn to abusive comments.

Sad and doesn’t deserve such toxic abuse however blame PCB selection for selecting him.

I remember Prithvi Shaw getting similar hate for his receding hair line and being out of shape but at least there is some respect there for his body of work in junior level and domestic cricket or a good start in internationals.

However I guess people feel he is undeserving and is a nepotistic pick so that doubles the hate.

Still no justification for the language being used at a young man who is only trying his best.

People in Social Media are very mean and criticism and abuse is part of it.

its not right, but lets be honest, the pcb have made a mockery of their so called fitness requirements by selecting him.

he might be able to hit, but he aint got the explosiveness of someone like jesse ryder.

prithvi Shaw was getting abuse for receding hairline? Is this for real?

Credit to the western media, but I can guarantee you the same western media would be spitting blood if someone is such bad shape was selected for England. Perhaps the wording would be a bit more careful, but in essence they would still be saying the same thing. Someone carrying so much excess fat should never be playing for England.

The personal abuse is never justified, but sadly it's part of wearing the national colours if you don't perform. It happens everywhere. But agree that journalists should be condemning it if they are even aware of it.

No Bro.

You cannot have it both ways

Personal abuse is never justified, but....

This sort of argument is how people justify personal abuse.

I'm not justifying it though, I'm just saying it happens. It's a bit silly to pretend it doesn't.

Its social media, you cannot control trolls or people who want to type abuse.

Everyone has a choice not to use social media if they feel it helps spread hate. You also have a report button.

The western leaders dont care about racism, Boris is one of the most racist leaders in recent modern history. Its all political tactics to win votes.

Tbh a lot of people in English media still want Samit Patel to be selected for England.

Deserves it.

Azam khan doesnt deserve to be playing.

Tanveer ahmad said it rightly that any player with that kind of fitness would never have been allowed to play crixket. You dont get to pass trials.

He is only playing due to moin khan.

In sports, you need to meet the fitness standard and if you ar fat you need to bashed. An athlete being out of shape is no excuse.

Forget Azam khan, even Yasir shah had a belly and people called him out.

Its pretty much a fact.

In trials the scouts give one look at your body and you get rejected. These criterias did not fall on Azam Khan.

There are alot of out of shape players who can hit but dont make it because they are not atheles.

Everyone knows this guy doesnt deserve to be wearing the pakistani kit. He cant even stop a ball or score a single. He only knows how to swing his bat and against a quakity international side, he is bound to make a mockery of himself.

Abuse is well deserve if you make it to the top by unfair means and especially when you dont deserve to be there.

The hate imam ul haq got was un warranted, yes he did get an edge because of inzama, but imam is an athlete at the end of the day. He bats like a sportsmen and can score runs.

Azam khan is jot even a cricketer.

First drink a glass of water.

Secondly, whatever the reasons for his selection it is not his fault. Yes criticise his cricket or the selections based on non performance.

BUT under no circumstances do you ridicule a person because of their skin colour or body type...

Finally, Ryder, Patel and currently Cornwall are also on the large side and yet they played international cricket. They may have been asked to get fit bit by their coaches or boards and that too is fine but no one has a right to ridicule them on it.

I disagree.

Skin colour and body type are two different things for cricketers.

His body type matters on the cricket field and is equal to his technique, performances, and/or any other cricketing aspect. If his weight is making it hard for him to field that is literally impacting the team's chances of success.

Of course, I don't agree with calling him ugly (that's ridiculous) but his physique or weight should be fair game.

Ryder, Patel, and Cornwall don't deserve to be in the same sentence as Azam. They toiled long and hard in the domestic circuit showing they deserved a spot. Azam got his dad to pick up a phone and essentially walked into a PSL team and now a national team contract.

He is the pinnacle of nepotism in Pakistan cricket. Even Junaid Zia doesn't come close.

If we reverse the gender, you will see 4th world war on media both inside and outside the country #doublestandards #himtoo #metoo
Poor Azam khan is getting the abuse in such young age,i hope he is mentaly strong otherwise clear case of depression and anxiety.

Ryder, Patel and Cornwall spent years in domestic cricket proving themselves and showing that inspire of their physique they can do a job.

How many seasons of domestic cricket did Alam Khan have. What did he show in that?

To be honest, the criticism comes only when the person does not perform. People look for excuses and physique and age are obvious areas to direct criticism at.

No one trolled Aravinda De Silva when he used to play with that huge potbelly. The reason is that he was performing well inspite of it (possibly because of it).

If Azam Khan performs despite being plump, they'll shut up.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear in my post.

I agree that he should not have been selected on grounds of performance.
Yes selection based on nepotism should be called out.

But no one deserves to be made fun of on social media or any other forum.

People can get their point across without having personal digs.

I don't don't agree with his selection but I also don't agree with insulting him on the way he looks.

No one deserves to be abused. Says more about these sad people’s upbringing rather than anything else.

Celebrities and sports stars all over are regularly abused on social media. Some of them enjoy the publicity they receive when such things happen.

Body shaming so common in desi culture.
Sadly here Some people saying he deserve it.
Pathetic.
