Why not attack South Africa while Faf du Plessis and (potentially) Aiden Markram are out?

I keep reading people saying “the series is lost, we need to rest Shaheen Shah Afridi”.

Why? It reminds me of Hamilton 2016, when people preferred to slog to a 2-0 defeat rather than go down 1-0 with dignity.

South Africa have their own problems. Their skipper is suspended, their best opener is injured and they are carrying Theunis de Bruyn. And their bowlers have just leaked runs in the last innings.

Why not throw the kitchen sink at them?

Just drop Fakhar Zaman and Imam and Yasir Shah.

And bring in Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Rizwan as a batsman.

That means 4 quicks who will get decent rest spells.

And it means dropping three passengers who deliver nothing.

Don’t just give up. Do what India did a year ago - try to turn a demoralising defeat into a 2-1 loss which feels like a near miss!

Absolutely. This SA side without the likes of AB, markram, faf, injured Amla is extremely beatable. Pakistan should absolutely smash SA here.

Pak is not India. But yeah as Faf and Markram are gone, Amla has a broken arm + ABD is retired, anyone can win against this SA side if you win toss and put up even a decent 1st innings total.

I am suprised that Pak has lost even after winning toss. Ind won only 1 toss and we won that test in Jo'burg.

Pakistan don’t have to be India: like you said, there’s no AB, no FAF, no Markram and possibly no Amla.

They just need to play enough fast bowlers and pick the best team, and attack!

Don't compare India's bowling attack to Pakistan's army of trundlers.

No AB, No FAF, No Markram and possibly No Amla .... what a batting line up!

Problem will be Pakistani bowlers ability to get them out cheaply despite being an extremely weak batting. But I do see a point here, a very weak SA batting has become even weaker.

Indians were quicker and also had discipline to bowl in right channels. It's not just about playing 4 pacers. Pakistan has to avoid bowling hit me balls, and half of the job will be done.

Nice one!

As an Englishman whose Dad was born in “British India”, I never thought I’d see the day when Indians tease Pakistanis for having inferior quick bowlers.

The world is changing!

All the same, I’d think that the Full Strength Pakistan attack should do okay against South Africa’s reserves.

And what is Pakistan's full strength bowling attack?

I think Markram and Amla will play in Johannesburg.

Pakistan faces SA C D E F team and we will still not able to beat them.

It's tough to be motivated when result is decided and nothing to gain in an overseas test series. I hope Pak don't make any newbie a star by letting that guy score 125/ 150 in next test in absence of their prime batters.

This is now SAF D side without AB, Faf, Morne, Ngidi and possibly Markram .. If Pakistan don't win this time they will never win.. I think SAF without these players are even poor than the current Aussies.. Pak should smash them or Inzy Bhai should sack all of them
