Why not take a leaf out of the NBA book and have PSL Finals instead of Play-offs?

I have seen a few comments which make a joke of the biggest joke of PSL. We have 6 teams but we are doing play-offs with 4 teams so in theory a team that finishes 4th can still win the PSL. I mean this is bonkers in terms of competition and a team which is in the lower part of the table should have no opportunities to go through and should be eliminated. In my opinion this format can only work when there is 10 or more teams as majority of undeserving teams cannot go through. I am not sure what is PCB's logic to this format is as anyone who watches any major sports league (Be it The Prem, Football League, Bundesliga, NBA, NFL, MLS etc) would know this doesn't make any sense.

I personally think PCB should try to do things differently with the PSL and may be look to NBA for inspiration for example. Why not have PSL Finals similar to NBA Finals, the best of 3 matches between the top 2 teams. The remaining 4 teams should be sent packing and told to prepare for the following year.

What are everyone else's opinions and ideas on this?

I wouldn’t want to watch the same teams play 3 consecutive games against each other, it’ll get boring.

All they have to do is add 2 more teams (Sialkot Stallions and a team from Kashmir). Top 4 teams go through, bottom 4 eliminated.

Or, they can merge the PSL with BPL and CPL. Top 2 teams from each league play against each other for the “T20 Champions League” trophy.

PCB also needs to build a Home/Away culture, cos all I’m seeing is Karachi fans cheering their biggest “rivals” Lahore Qalandars when they get a wicket vice versa.

If you look at the games in the IPL, you can sense which team is playing at home and which team is playing away just by listening to the crowd.

I’m not sure you understand the NBA finals and playoffs. There are NBA playoffs where 8 teams from each conference advance to the playoffs. The 8th seeded team (equivalent to 4th seed in PSL playoffs) can advance and get through to the NBA finals. Their road is very difficult as they have to play the top team in the first round. There is no NBA finals right off the bat. In PSL’s case, where there are only 6 teams the better option is to give a bye to the top team to advance straight to the semi finals.
