Who said they had to go for big shots. All I'm saying is the negative cricket backfired on them. I've seen it countless times. Their role was to rebuild a partnership but they also needed to atleast go at a healthy strike rate. Most of the time they were hovering under 3 RPO which is simply not acceptable in this form of the game! With both Inzi and Yousuf being dismissed it just leaves all the hard work and pressure on guys like Malik and Akmal.

& What about the lousy shots by Hafeez and Youns in particular which put pressure on Inzy and Yousuf? Can't always play with freedom when the whole team's chances rest with effectively two men.

west indies with this win will be a real force...like pakistan their greatest enemy isn't their skill...but their confidence...

this will boost their confidence a great deal !
same can be said about Pakistan. Their confidence just took another hit.

The problem as always is the openers. To chase any target whether large or small you need a good start. Unless you do that the middle order will always be under pressure. We are already two batters down and Akmal is ....well everyone knows my opinion. We effectively had 3 batters today and they can't always win you games. Just feel very sorry for Inzy and Yousuf.

Well i agree with that. But the shots played by Younis and Yousuf were horrendous, esp Younis. I think that was the turning point. It really dented the Pak batsmen psychologically.

The reason they were batting slow is because we didn't have many batters left so they couldn't take any risks! Its called pressure and that fault lies with the openers bro

I think first five batsmen are responsible for the loss.

yes i am including Inzi and Yousuf as they could have saved the match if played a little aggressively but they just shut themselves down completly and theat let the RR climb to high and resulted in their eventual demise too.

The thing is WI bowlers bowled very tight, and it wasnt easy to get runs against them without taking risks. They start to up the tempo but then smith and collymore came in and made life difficult... i disagree with your last statement, with the openers and younis getting out early it put too much pressure on inzi and malik!

Why the hell was RANA selected today, pakistan should have played sami or azhar mamood. A long tail awaits to be sent back to the pavilion.

Shabaash PAKISTAN we are PROUD of YOU !

Like Sami was going to be any better. Azhar should have played because we had too long a tail today. When Afridi returns he should replace Kaneria and if Azhar plays well he should keep his place.

Like i said I'm not excusing the openers and YK. They should get the most blame for putting our middle order in this situation in the first place but, I'm just emphasizing that Inzi and Yousuf playing negative cricket was always going to backfire on us.

West indies youngsters have performed and pakistans havent.. thats difference today!

guys..i also dont see many wickets like this in the world cup...pakistan might well find flat and slow wickets for the rest of their games...in which case teams like S.A will struggle....

on wickets like this though...no one can beat S.A.....perfect wicket forour style of play....but everyone knows that this is the exception rather than the rule...

Rao hit on the collar bone from one that shot up off a length

After this match the top ranks like inzamam, younis, yousuf and coach bob woolmer need to sit down and have a serious discussion.

For next matches pakistan should field the following eleven;

PAKISTAN

1. Hafeez
2. Younis
3. Malik
4. Yousuf
5. Inzamam
6. Mahmood
7. Akmal
8. Kaneria/ Arafat
9. Sami
10. Gul
11. Rao

SIX!!!!!!!!! Can shoaib do it??
No. There is nobody else there, if Akmal was there maybe. But even with his awesome average even Rao can't save us.

Coolest cricketer of all time makes an amazing stop - saves a boundary!

I don't have any confidence in the team selection or strategy.

If Pakistan do a miracle and pull off this match, they will probably go in with the same lineup despite the obvious problems with it.

Let's be reasonable. Our chances are not looking good.

When the super 8 starts, four of the 8 teams will have the 2 points they take from this round. So, Pakistan will start with a disadvantage.

Of the 6 other teams that we'll have to play against, and win 4 to guarantee a spot in the semi-final. (3 can also do it, but that will depend upon too many other permutations that are out of our control. Nothing can be guaranteed to happen, as it did in the '92 world cup.)

We have a good chance against: ENG, IND
We have an even chance against: SL, NZ
We have no chance against: AUS, SAf

What can I say ... this is not looking good!

this is inspiring from malik, looks like i won't be sleeping in a bad mood today!

Has too large a tail for my liking. If you're four down, you have potential Inzi and Mahmood at the crease. Mahmood would be coming in too early.

" wicket like that" ..

i am not sure abt that. its a good sporting track with some movement, not a batsman's nightmare.

We have a good chance against: ENG, SAF

We can beat South Africa if they play 4 seamers because they are preditable. If they play a spinner, well who knows because any spinner can get most our players out.

im gonna say it again malik is extrememly sensible
probably one of the most sensible in the squad right now

we have a decent chance against IND, some chance against SL, slight chance against Aus.

Almost impossible against WI but not quite....

about the wicket ...I meant a bouncy wicket....not suitable to pakistan cricket,,,

this ones moderately bouncy not out of control bouncy. it is just a pathetic display of batting.

The batting order for the next match should really be:

Hafeez
Inzamam
Malik
Moyo
Younis
Akmal
Mahmood
Kaneria/ Arafat
Sami
Gul
Rao

I dont think south africa's 4 seamers being predictable is a bad thing...

for years now they have been predictable...you can always predict they will get wickets and bowl teams out cheaply...

not one spinner for windies today......pak spinners went for plenty....spinners in one dayers are often a curse rather than a blessing..

50 to Malik..well played...just a shame you've been wasted down the order...but you've done us proud! :14:

Hafeez/Akmal
Nazir
Malik
Yousuf
Inzamam
Younis
Akmal/Hafeez
Mahmood
Gul
Rao
Kaneria

Yes and no really. It is only in retrospect that one can say that they played negatively. What if they went hell for leather, played two lose shots and we were suddenly 50-5?

The problem today was that there was no one to come in after them as we were missing two power hitters in Afridi and Abdul Razzaq. Akmal makes our openers look effective.

In the WC 92 final Imran and Javed batted very patiently and some could say negatively after we lost 2 early wickets. It was only because Wasim and Inzy came in and tonked it around and most importantly we won that this was seen as the right thing to do. Inzy and Yousuf had to bat the way they did but just lacked any kind of support.

The only criticism I would have is that in an ideal world they should turned more 1's into 2's but this is Pakistan we're talking about. When the bowling is tight it is important to keep the scoreboard ticking over and rotating the strike. That though isn't the Pakistani way.
