Security Minister Dan Jarvis said an MP’s ‘primary focus’ should be on local issues

The campaign, launched by Bedford’s Labour MP Mohammad Yasin, called for better air links to the city because British Kashmiris were put off from visiting because of the 80 mile drive from Islamabad.

The issue is a “very important matter to the Kashmiri diaspora”, they said in a joint letter.

But critics pointed out that almost half of the MPs who had signed the letter had either previously voted against or attacked Heathrow’s plans to build a third runway in west London.

The letter was signed by London MPs Dr Rosena Allin-Khan and Stella Creasy, who had both voted against Heathrow expansion.

Due to post war economy, UK had a labour shortage does they opened up immigration in 1950s - 1960s. Pakistan needed to build dams at the time and the area they choose to build a dam was Mirpur, Azad Kashmir. Alot of people got displaced as those water works went through certain lands, thus these displaced people were offered immigration to UK. Alot of Mirpuris settled there, especially in Birmingham and Bradford.

Mirpuris in Bradford have strong family and business ties in UK, thus the govt over there tends to help these people back home as well.

This concept will be foreign to alot of Indians who are used to the brutality of Middle East govt that took labour from Subcontinent but could not offer anything back to them.

I completely disagree. As a British Pakistani who has paid into the system my entire life, I don’t see why my tax money should be used to fund an airport in Pakistan. That is, and should be, the responsibility of the Pakistani government, not the British taxpayer.

On top of that, it makes no sense that PTI supporters are demanding an airport from the british when the Pakistani government is already in the process of building three new airports. Plus, there’s already a fully functional airport in Sialkot, which is only about an hour and a half away from Mirpur. The demand seems not only unnecessary but also misguided One next they will be asking for airport in their backyards in uk and flight landing in their backyard in pakistan

On Monday, Birmingham City Council declared a major incident, as it estimated 17,000 tonnes of waste remained uncollected around the city.​

Lee Anderson has erupted as a number of Labour MPs have called for a new airport in Pakistan despite an invasion of what he called "super giant rats" in a major British city. The Reform UK MP pointed out that Birmingham representatives in the House of Commons are advocating for the infrastructure while their city is still in the grips of a huge bin strike. He said on X: "What A Load Of Rubbish. Birmingham Labour MPs are campaigning for a new airport in Pakistan whilst giant super rats have taken over the streets of Brum due to the bin strike."

He added from the green benches: "We have Labour Birmingham MPs campaigning for a new airport in Pakistan. Meanwhile, we have rats the size of cats in Birmingham feasting on a month's worth of rubbish courtesy of the trade union friends of the party opposite. Simple question to the minister: When is this rubbish going to be cleared?" The Reform UK MP referred to a group of MPs from the Labour Party taking to social media to voice their support for the project of building the airport in Mirpur, a district within the disputed Kashmir region currently administered by Pakistan. Among them was Tahir Ali, the Labour MP for Birmingham New Hall.

The Reform MP should campaign to sack all the white waste collectors paid by the councils and look to hire local hardworking Pakistanis from Mirpur.

Blown out of proportions. They are advocating for the Foreign office to Pressure the Pakistani Government in to building it. Yet we have our normal Trolls spinning it like usual.

Then it is even more foolish. It is none of British foreign offices business to request Pakistan government what infrastructure to build. So, they have no monetary involvement but will ask Pak government to build airport in an international conflict area line Mirpur creating a legitimacy that Pak government is responsible for Azad Kashmir?That is not responsible behavior: these are British MP’s not Pakistan MP’s.

If they have asked British foreign office for money then it is foolish too.

I would assume with no disrespect to the Mirpuri population of Britian, they would not be significant enough for Britain to rub a trading partner like India the wrong way.

Why would Reform MP clean the streets of Birmingham when the MP from that area belong to Labour party? What he will do then? Build airports in Mirpur?

What next? Are you going to blame grooming gang Mirpuris in Rochdale for the rubbish not being cleared by on-strike white council workers in Birmingham? If I read it right it seems you did manage to deflect towards that in one post already.
