Will Pakistan have a fast-bowler in the top 10 of the Test rankings in the next 5 years?

It is so depressing to see no good fast bowlers coming from pakistan for a long time now , we had a lot of hope from Mohammad Amir and much of it has diminished now. In The last 7 years no Pakistani quick has managed to break into the top ten of test rankings , the last two were Amir and Asif (8 and 2 respectively). Junaid Khan managed number 13 in 2013 and wahab riaz is currently holding his best ranking - no 19.

Do you see any Pakistani quick bowler who can break into top 10?

Why have you lost hope in Amir? You have to watch cricket beyond just cricinfo stats and scroecards. Theg uy has bowled well and done so continuously after being instantly inserted into the test side with a 5 year hiatus. Plus he is only 24/25. The problem has been that he lost a minimum of 12 wicketst o directly dropped catches across 2 test series last year. That's not his fault. Many mroe lost chances across other formats.

In terms of the rankings, who cares. They are seriously flawed. It is better to use our own eyes to judge a bowler.

Why not!! You never know when a new upcoming talent comes up. And it's Pakistan we are talking about, your country has produced one fast bowling prospect after another like cotton candies.

those were good old days , we do not have that quality anymore.

Who says so? It was the same for Pakistan from around 2007 till Aamir came. Now of course Aamir himself is to be blamed for his fate. But then again you never know when another new young prospect comes up again, specially since it's Pakistan we are talking about.

BTW, from the days of Imran Khan and Sarfaraz Nawaz, can anyone name me a long stretch of years where Pakistan has never had a world class fast bowler in their team? There in lies the answer to this tread.

I'm sorry, I almost forgot Aamir was banned in 2010, not after that. But still, their fast bowling resources hasn't been pathetic by any means.

Yeah. Junaid, Wahab etc have been ok. They have become like India/SL. Batting/Spin heavy with ok-ish pacers.

Hopefully Hasan Ali. You need to take wickets to be in the top 10 rankings, which rules Amir out.

I hope this doesn't come back to bite you in the behind like SEVERAL other things over the years.

Hassan Ali I feel is very overrated , a good limited over bowler but dont see him go too far in test cricket. As for Amir he is not the same anymore.

Hassan Ali is a decent bowler but can he be leader of the pack? Don't think so.

In next 1 to 2 years,Amir will be in the Top 10 of each T20,ODI and Test given that fielders take catches regularly.

People saying Amir, but he shouldn't be given a free-ride. Needs to take a 5-fer and perform well in the next series or else be booted out.

Check the bowlers ranking. Most good bowling pairs are ranked higher up. In some cases both bowlers of the pair are in the top ten. Talking about just tests here, Ashwin and Jadeja are 1 and 2. Rabada, Steyn and Philander are 5,6 and 9 respectively. Anderson and Broad are 7 and 8. The only bowlers that don't have their partners in the top 10 are Hazelwood, Herath and Wagner. BUT Starc is at 11 and Boult, Southee are 12 and 13 respectively. While Perara from SL is at 14.

This confirms my point that whenever a bowler is doing good it is because the batsmen aren't getting a reprieve at the other end.

Now when Amir comes onto bowl he is accompanied by Sohail Khan (average of 100 in 2nd innings), Rahat Ali (LOL), Imran Khan (LMAO) and spray gun Wahab. How do you expect Amir to have any potency if the batsmen can just leave Amir's six deliveries and make up the runs in the next over. This also explains why Amir's economy rates have been stellar despite the lack of wickets.

Yasir Shah, Amir, and Hassan Ali will all break into the top 10. Wahab has a chance if he becomes a bit more consistent.

Dark Horse to break into top 10: Mohammad Asghar

Oh please. No excuses. Even Junaid Khan was taking 5-fers for fun while bowling with: Aizaz Cheema (LOL), Tanvir Ahmed (...), Umar Gul (LMAO), and Mohammad "Glass Ankles" Irfan. As I said above, Amir needs to take a 5-fer and bowl well in the next series or else be dropped. No need to pick a player based on talunt like Umar Akmal.

Definitely Amir has potential and age is on his side, but he has to give performances now.

I will support him if he starts taking wickets, which he has failed to do so up to this point. The excuses are rubbish as well, all the so-called pathetic bowler that he has been bowling with have produced more meaningful spells. Where was Amir when the unfit Sohail was taking 5-fers in England. Oh yes yes, he would have taken 20 wickets every match if it wasn't for the dropped catches.
