On the surface, Pakistan have been quite a poor team in ODIs off late despite a good series performance in South Africa. The 5-0 whitewash , though it looks bad on paper, needs to be properly contextualised. Pakistan were resting half a dozen players and trying out new combinations to select their best 15 and, hence, the outcome of the series.

However, with a settled squad, Pakistan can gain momentum by winning the England series and peaking just in time for the World Cup to come. Do Ppers think Pakistan are going to peak at the right time ? Discuss .

Yes I Thought so. They will .

I hope they do but the unavailability of Shadab Khan plays a huge role. The balance of the team just isn't there when Shadab isn't in the team.I hope he recovers in time.

I expect shadab to be fit by the time the tournament starts. He indeed does add value to this team with his all-round ability.

yes then can but
it all depends on if we play our best playing 11 from the available squad

The last time Pakistan peaked in a World Cup was almost 30 years ago so I can be forgiven for assuming that a peak is unlikely.

We need to peak when it matters, we like to play as cornered tigers. When the chips are down and no one gives us hope, we look to stand up then.

Shahdab is extremely important but I am extremely excited to see what this team can do in this World Cup.

Everything is possible but looks very difficult for Pakistan to even qualify for the semi final

A team with mediocre players will not become world beater magically. Australia is the team which is peaking right now and will have a much better World Cup than Pakistan.

What about world T20 in 2009 and CT 2017?

They beat New Zealand, Ireland in the Super 4 and then South Africa and Sri Lanka in the Semi Finals and Finals.

It's easier for them to win a few games in a row after getting a thrashing but what you're missing is that the World Cup is much longer.

We will get of to an average start. There will be improvement after the first hurdle is over.

Realistically you only need 6 wins to go through and maybe 5 which will make NRR come into play. if pak can beat the 4 lower ranked teams (wi,Ban, Sri lanka and afg) then they'll be in a decent position. They only need 4 out of 7 wins before they face afg and ban. So it's not impossible.after that it is just you holding your nerves and going through to the final.

Just like last time in 2015, have zero expectations from our team. Our recent form tells everything. The 2017 CT exploits will now mean all the other teams will not underestimate us again

A loss against the lower ranked teams is on the cards they have the players to win matches beating 3 of the top 5 teams is unlikely it'll take a big effort to go through the format will test you out fully no hiding places.

I put it this way - making SF is probably tougher for PAK than making Finals or even winning it. If PAK makes the SF are 9 hard fought games - that can only happen for followings (apart from luck factors, which is out of control)

1. Batsmen have performed in general and couple of batsmen are in red hot form
2. Every bowler has delivered and match day bowling picks are spot on
3. It's a motivated, happy bunch who has complemented each others and have fielded well
4. Sarfraz has led the side well and responded adequately to tactical challenges
5. Overall, most players have raised their game under pressure and responded to crunch moments

If all or most of these happens, means the total out put is higher than individual sum - normally these teams gets stronger and stronger with the tournament, unless there is any injury or ban.

Covering most of those conditions, if PAK makes it to SF means, like 1992, team will be at it's peak out put with most individuals punching above weight - they'll be a force in KOs.

I would rather we lose the England series. Heads will go into clouds in otherwise. We are not good enough to be front runners.
We just need to win 3 of our first 6 and then be ready to go on a run. Our pool games allow for this as last 3 are easier. ( Sl afg and bang)
First game is WI and we should be more acclimatised then them

Everyone forgets that Pakistan were a dropped catch away from crashing out to Sri Lanka

As were India in 2011 Semi Finals

As were Australia in 1999 Super Six match versus South Africa

Dropped catches are a part of the game

All these are hypothetical questions which no one can really answer. Yeah in 2017 Pakistan defeated all odds and won the tournament but again just because that happened we cannot say they will do it again. When the WC starts and all teams are into few games, we will know who has peaked. Till then there is no way to answer such questions unless I am speculating or bringing in useless historic data which does not ever help in case of a World tournament.

When you know that Pak have been a poor team then why are you talking about peaking? Can anyone tell us what exactly is the strength of this team? Pak can end up getting beaten by teams like WI,Afghan and Bang in this event. Our lone spinner in shadab is out with illness, this is probably the only team that will go to the tour without a proper spinner( even if yasir is selected he wont play much).

And aus were one run away from being knocked out in the semis in 1999. If you look at these type of things you'll find out that the actual winners were not supposed to be winners if the "chances" were taken.

We need six wins to make it into semis, and the most likely teams against whom we could edge out are:

Afghanistan
Bangladesh
Sri Lanka

Three teams against whom we can hope to be competitive are:

West Indies
New Zealand
South Africa

The remaining three teams (India, England & Warner-boosted Australia) are too strong to be beaten by an underpar side like Pakistan.

Our best bet is Semis

Instead of imad ....abid ali should play
Haris sohail should be preferred over shoiab malik in middle order..
Pakistan should play 7 batsman including wicketkeeper and should use hafeez/haris/fakhar for 10 covers
Abid
Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Sarfaraz
Hafeez
Asif ali
Shahdab/imad
Hassan
Junaid
Amir/shaheen
