Arguably the best manager in the world and someone who ensures his teams play a stylish brand of football.

However will his style of play work in the Premiership? Can he get the best out of the Manchester City players?

Do you think Pep will be a success at Manchester City?

City can win the PL without him as well, main thing is CL. If he couldn't it with Bayern he will find it as hard to do it with City too.

City is willing to back him up in the transfer window with a blank cheque... i don't see how he can fail.. the title is theirs next season

Can he get Messi into ManCity colours ?:afaq

of course. With all the money, he will obviously be a success. Don't mean he is a great manager though.

Best manager? where did you get that from?

His performance will depend on the transfer market, dont think he can get his tiki taka philosophy with the current squad.

With the team City have they should be walking the league. They spent over 120 m on players in the summer. Otamendi De Bruyne Sterling were all bought for big money. Add that to Aguero Silva Toure Kompany and Hart you have a world class team. They've had injury issues and also the fact that Otamendi has taken long to settle and Mangala is a 30m flop who hasn't been able to fill in for Kompany. Attacking wise they have the best firepower in the league. Pep will have a blank chequebook this summer. Domestic success is a given with City's squad and wealth. It's Europe they want and need to conquer. Anything less than 2 leagues in 3 years a UCL final appearance. Consistent semi final appearances will be a failure for Pep. With this group of players and the resources he has he should be successful.

He's been absolutely brilliant. An inspired appointment who has brought City a lot if success and great players.

Every season he brings in high quality footballers and what is the best thing about him is the fantastic brand of football his teams play.

How well would he be without all that financial backing? He is a good manager no doubt without going overboard.

No one can have a sustained period of dominance without financial backing and expensive players.

Klopp could not win anything and got outclassed by Unai Emery’s Sevilla in the Europa League Final until Barcelona overpaid for Coutinho which allowed him to sign the most expensive defender of all time and the second most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

And this season when VVD got injured after conceding 7 goals at Villa, Liverpool’s season was in tatters.

No manager can dominate without financial backing and expensive players but not all managers can dominate with financial backing.

Throughout his managerial career, Pep has been exceptional at identifying the right players for his system and this is why he has been a trophy-winning machine.

His genius was apparent within his first season in 2008-2009 when he rebuild Barcelona in one transfer window and took them to a treble after they had finished 18 points behind Real Madrid in 2007-2008 and had a trophy-less season.

Pep is a footballing genius and has had a remarkable impact on modern football in a very short period of time. His influence is not limited to club football only; he was the reason why Spain won the 2010 World Cup.

Pep is a good manager but not a genius by any means. I did not say that JK would have been successful without financial backing but he has spent less then Pep. Man City although likely this season have still not want the Champions League with Pep. Selling Couts to fund the purchase of VVD was a masterstroke BY JK as well.

Money helps but Pep has been probably funded more then any other manager which is a massive advantage. I would say he is probably the only manager in the world who is not told to sell before he can buy unlike JK or others. Liverpool will likely have to sell and Salah or Mane if we were to bring in a Sancho. Even at Barca Pep had an open cheque book like Real Madrid too. To me a genius is someone like Bob Paisley, Alex Ferguson or a Brian Clough even if that era can not be compared to how the game is today.

With the Spin team being dominated by Barca and Real players naturally they were eventually gonna win it. I would call Pep a genius if he could win the World Cup with a much lesser team like a Scotland or even England. Never gonna happen.

Not true,

his transfer policy has been like a lottery, buy as many players for each position as he can and hope one suceeds, he has had more failures, then successes. Peps best players at City have been the ones he inhertied and not bought with his billions available. (D.Silva, DeBryne, Fernandinho, Aguero, Sterling)

He was even given 2 good players in Sancho and Angelino, who have gone on to be great on the RW and LB position for there new teams, while pep is still struggling to fill those positions in despite buying plently of recruitments for those positions.

He has struck luck rather than genius on the transfers that worked out, he never wanted Diaz, he was all in for Koulibaily and even prefered Ake over Diaz, when he couldn't get any of his prime targets he got Diaz as a panic buy, little did he know it would work out.

Without the financial backing he has received, the best he would do is what he did at BM, which is not bad but no where close to genius.

Compare Pep's net spending to Klopp's! You will clearly see the difference as to why Man City win so many matches. Just Man City's sub's are expensive enough to get in to the first team of all top sides. Pep is a cheque book manager if ever there was one.

Pep Guardiola has suggested he could leave Manchester City when his current contract runs out in 2023.

The 50-year-old Spaniard, who joined City in 2016 and has won three Premier League titles, feels he may need a rest after seven years in charge.

The former Barcelona boss revealed his next ambition is to take charge of a national team.

"Next step will be a national team, if there is a possibility," he said at an XP Investimentos event on Wednesday.

"After seven years on this team, I think I'm going to have a stop. I'm going to have to take a break, see what we've done.

"And in the process, I would like to coach a South American (team), European, playing a Copa America, I want to have that experience."

he can pick and choose now..such is his reputation

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has all but ruled out ever taking charge of another club in England.

The Spaniard is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2023 and could extend that, but expects to work elsewhere at some point in the future.

Although he has expressed an interest in international football, the 50-year-old admits he has no clear vision of where his long-term future lies.

One thing he is sure about, however, is that he cannot see himself being employed by another Premier League club and he has even hinted he would rather take on another role at City.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss said: "I've said many times when we've finished our part here, for the pleasure to live in a European Championship, a World Cup, I would like to live it but I know it is not easy to find it because normally there are few positions.

"I think it is difficult for it to happen. I would like it but, at the same time, if it does not happen I will train a club. That is not a problem.

"In England, being here, I think I will always be at Man City. If I had to come back I would come back to Man City, if they want me. I don't think I am going to train another club in England. I'm a part of this club."

Pep Guardiola explains his ethos when it comes to player improvement – it could be key for Jack Grealish.

Despite that desire to lead a country to a major tournament, he is adamant that Gareth Southgate's position as England manager is not something he has his eye on.

"Gareth has done an incredible job, reaching the final of the Euros and the semi-finals of the last World Cup," said Guardiola ahead of Sunday's home Premier League clash with West Ham.

"This is a huge success for English football. He has extended his contract and what I want is after that (for him) to extend for more years, if he is happy to do it.

"I am not here to take anyone's position. It is not my target. As long as it is possible to be here, as much as my energy is there and my love for what I am doing is here, (I will be). After that I don't know what is going to happen."

Guardiola has revealed City could travel to Abu Dhabi, home of their owner Sheikh Mansour, for a warm-weather training camp in January.

For the first time since 2017 - in Guardiola's first season in charge - City will not be involved in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and could have a suitable gap in their schedule.

Guardiola said: "Maybe it is possible. Just being together there - getting out a bit, changing the routine, training in good weather conditions and a good environment, being close to our chairman, spending time together, good dinners together, pool, sun.

"We are not going for a holiday, but to work. Rather than stay here, do it there."

They really need to win that Champions League title sooner or later… they have everything that they need to achieve this.

Had it not been for Jurgen Klopp Man City would be winning the league very easily. Now that Chelsea have reemerged as title contenders a three horse race is gonna test Pep more then ever before. Question is would Pep do so well for Man City like Klopp is with Liverpool's budget? I think not.

To be considered a legend he has to win the big one that we have six times. I would never swap Klopp for Pep:klopp

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said Arsenal's Mikel Arteta had "a great, massive influence" on him and helped him become a better manager.

Arteta was Guardiola's assistant at City before taking the Arsenal job and the two sides meet in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday (20:00 GMT).

The Gunners lead the Premier League, with reigning champions City second.

"I had the feeling, we knew it when he was here, (about) his ability for City," said Guardiola on Thursday.

"I don't know my part on him but his influence on me was great, massive, so important in becoming a better manager.

"If I had left, Mikel would be here and he would be the best, absolutely."

Guardiola 'happy' hearing over Man City charges starts soon

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is "happy" that a hearing into the 115 charges facing the club will begin soon.

An independent disciplinary commission is set to hear the case against City over alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules, some of which date back to 2009.

BBC Sport understands the hearing is set to start in September with the result possibly known early next year, as first reported by the Times, external.

City have denied all charges and say they are supported by a "body of irrefutable evidence".

"I am happy it starts soon and hopefully it finishes soon for the benefit of all of us," Guardiola said.

"Especially for the club but for all the other Premier League clubs, like for all the people that don't wait for the sentence.

"I wish from deep in my heart to go to the trial, the independent panel - and I say it again, independent panel - and as soon as possible release what happened, and we will accept like always we have done."

Guardiola dismissed the idea that the situation around the hearing could affect City's performances on the pitch.

"No, we have been three or four years talking about that," he added.

It is now 18 months since City were charged, following a four-year investigation, and Premier League chief executive Richard Masters recently told BBC Sport "it is time now for the case to resolve itself".

In a separate legal case, City are also taking action against the Premier League over the organisation's tightened rules on 'fair' sponsorship deals, with an outcome expected in the next few weeks.

Guardiola to take coaching break after Man City

Pep Guardiola says he will take a break from management after he leaves Manchester City, though he does not know when he will retire.

Guardiola signed a two-year contract extension in November, extending his stay at the club until June 2027.

By that time the 54-year-old will have been at City for 11 years - he spent four years as Barcelona manager before taking charge of Bayern Munich for three.

"After my contract with City, I'm going to stop. I'm sure," Guardiola told ESPN, external.

"I don't know if I'm going to retire, but I'm going to take a break."

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, Guardiola clarified that he won't necessarily leave City at the end of his current contract.

"I didn't say I'm leaving now or at the end of season or the end of contract," he said.

"I said when I finish my time here, be it one, two, three, four, five years, I will take a break.

"I won't retire but I will take a break. What I am saying is when I am finished here I will take a break,"

Guardiola has overseen the most successful period in City's history, with his side winning six of the past nine Premier League titles as well as the club's first Champions League as part of a Treble in 2022-23.

This season City have failed to reach their previous heights and are currently fourth in the table with four games left to play.

"How I want to be remembered, I don't know," Guardiola said. "I want people to remember me however they want.

"All coaches want to win so we can have a memorable job, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City had fun watching my teams play.

"I don't think we should ever live thinking about whether we're going to be remembered.

"When we die, our families cry for two or three days and then that's it - you're forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer."

City could still finish the season with silverware as they face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on 17 May.
