Will PSL sides realise they need to invest in young domestic players if they want to succeed in PSL?

Umer Khan was a 21st pick
Imam Ul Haq was a 21st pick
Haris Rauf was a supplementary pick
Aamer Yamin was a supplementary pick

Add in the fact that most of them had to wait a while (in the case of Hasanain, six games!) before even getting a game.

All of them ended up becoming integral players for their respective franchises. In some sense, they were the lucky ones as at least they eventually got to play.

The truth is, the overwhelming majority of young local players who were given a chance took it and prospered. It makes you wonder how the below would have performed if they had actually been given half a chance...

Saud Shakeel (didn't play a single game)
Usama Mir (didn't play a single game)
Asghar (didn't play a single game)
Nasir Nawaz (played a solitary game)
Danish Aziz (played a solitary game)
Zafar Gohar (played two games)

That's before we even consider the players who didn't even get selected for any squad...

When you have someone like Rashid Latif selecting Jaahid Ali, or Aaqib Javed picking Salman Butt, not much needs to be said. If people are involved in the draft and selection process who are well acquainted with domestic performers and young players with potential, the outcome may be better.

Regarding Imam, he was the 5th highest run-scorer, 2nd highest amongst Pakistanis. And his SR was 15 better than one of your favourites, Umar Amin

No. Our culture loves experience. PSL will extend the careers of these oldies. As they know they can get contracts just on their name . Look at Razzaq , Butt, and Misbah.

How about two more teams with at least two emerging category players, or two emerging category and one supplementary compulsory (quite likely the supplementary will also be a young Pakistani)? That will mean that anywhere between 16-24 young Pakistanis playing at all times.

Babar didn't have a great PSL, but he's a much better batsman. PSL isn't a benchmark for quality, certainly not for international standard.

I think they could have included someone else, not Babar and certainly not Imam.

Every franchise would love to have elite foreign players like de Villiers and Watson who are simply levels above even our best players, but there are also plenty of mediocre foreign players who are getting a free ride just so that they are happy and don’t balk out of the draft in the future.

Perhaps it would be advisable to give chances to some young local players in their stead, who would be hungrier and more motivated to perform and put their hats in the ring for international selection.

As a PZ supporter, the VIP treatment for an average player like Sammy is getting on my nerves. He has become a marketing gimmick with the whole Darren Sammy “Khan” nonsense.

I don’t remember the last time he has bowled and has been hopping on one leg for 2 years now. He has scored some runs this year, but he is simply not good enough to play as a specialist batsman.

Yes his captaincy has been good, but PZ will be better off playing a better batsman in his stead or another all-rounder. I am sure there are plenty of local players who would perform better than him.

PZ is the most well-established brand in PSL with the biggest fanbase. They no longer have to needlessly pander to the meme that is Sammy.

IMO both falls in the same league. Babar's strokes are eye-pleasing, but considering that he is in National team since almost 4 years , his inability to put pressure on the opposition is worrisome. On the other hand Imam is just at the beginning of his career and has shown improvement with each passing day.

On the serious note, following players are past their prime and shouldn't be the part of PSL as their presence as a player adds little to no value to the brand of PSL:

Ravi Bopara, Darren Sammy, Chadwick Walton, Ian Bell, Samit Patel, Sikandar Raza, Brendan Taylor, Ryan ten Doeschate, Wayne Madsen, Dwayne Smith, Max Waller, Nauman Ali, Shakeel Ansar, Salman Butt, Misbah, Sami, Shahid Afridi.

I agree. He has been on the decline for a while. He doesn’t even get selected for the IPL which is a telling sign as well. PZ should make him a ambassador or mentor.

While i agree that a lot of foreign players in the PSL are not that good and are being played because they are white. Sammy has made plenty of useful contributions lower down the order with his big hitting along with Pollard and has even won, finished games. His big hitting is a big asset and coupled that with his captaincy, i can understand why PZ keep reinstating him. He is a driving force behind them being the most popular PSL team.
