Will David Warner be part of Australian squad in the 2019 World Cup?

There were rumours going around that Warner might never play international cricket again. However, I feel it would be harsh if that happens and once he completes his ban for 1 year, he should be brought back into the Australian squad, particularly, in limited overs because he is a wonderful player and will be their most threatening player in 2019 WC.

However, a lot will depend on his form at that point of time because it is never easy to get the runs flowing all of a sudden after all this.

Do you think he will be back into the Australian squad till the World Cup in 2019?

He will be back(I think) if he performs in domestic cricket.

There is absolute no doubt in my mind that Australia have been cheating over the years.(It is just my opinion and plz don't ask me why).And CA won't risk Warner spilling the secret out by keeping him out of side even when Warner deserves to be in the squad.

It will Also depend on whether Australia will find settled opening partnership.

If finch and x(any player) combination is doing pretty well before WC,Then it will be almost impossible for Warner to be in playing 11 of Australia WC matches.

Warner would be hoping that Finch & any XYZ player opening partnership would fail before the WC.That's the only way I can see him being part of WC Playing 11.

Agreed. You did the crime, you got punished and now back to business.

However, he is not the golden boy of Australian cricket. If someone seals his place in this one year period, they might dump Warner because there were news that his attitude is affecting the team dressing room atmosphere and his teammates are also against him.

If the situation is like what it was with KP in 2013, then Warner might have to pay for it and hence may never get a recall back.

Actually this is what Australia has been. Loses some bilaterals and up their game in World Cups.

There is still a year around but captain won't be Steven Smith and hence not favourites.

I think the ban was fine to send a message. But he should be back as soon as ban ends. Tampering is nowhere as bad as fixing.

Cricket Australia leaves door open for David Warner return

DAVID Warner still has a future in Australian cricket, Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland says, handing the explosive opener a lifeline.

Warner was identified as the mastermind behind the plan to use sandpaper to tamper with the ball during the third Test in South Africa this year that shocked the sport.

While former skipper Steve Smith was charged with knowledge of the plot, Warner was charged with developing it and instructing Cameron Bancroft to carry it out.

Smith and then vice-captain Warner were banned for 12 months while Bancroft was exiled for nine months.

All three held emotional press conferences to apologise, with public sympathy for a contrite Smith and Bancroft.

Warner, who was also banned from ever holding a leadership role again in Australian cricket, admitted he was “resigned to the fact” he may never play for his country again.

But Sutherland said the door remained open.

“I think everyone deserves their chance and their own personal redemption story is very much in their own hands now,” he told Melbourne radio station SEN.

“Each of them have to go about that during the time they’re out of the game and prove that they’re worthy (and) prove to the Australian selectors that they should want them back.


“They deserve that opportunity.”

Warner reportedly went rogue in the middle of the ball tampering crisis with extraordinary suggestions claiming he leaked stories which depicted the entire Aussie team being aware of the tampering plot.

He also left the team’s WhatsApp group message thread in the days following the Third Test in Cape Town.

Sutherland added that he felt for the players, whose reputations have been trashed.

“I feel forgiveness for all of them. I feel sympathy for them and I want to see them all come back and play their best cricket. I believe they all can,” he said.

“Part of the design within the sanctions was to allow them to stay connected with the game.

“I also see part of our role is to support them with their state associations and their clubs, to help them stay hungry and come back and play their best cricket.”

Cricket Australia on Tuesday appointed an ethics guru to review the sport’s culture in the wake of the scandal to ensure there is never a repeat.

It will run in tandem with a separate probe announced last month into player behaviour.

Warner with one hand tied behind his back is better than jokers like Head/Short who'll compete for his spot. In ODIs he's Australia's gun batsman. Far better and more important than Smith.

Given the fact that the pair were banned for ball tampering, it should be noted that these two will be free to play for Aus 2 months before the World cup starts. The current Aus team is by far one of the worst in history and the controversies they're currently going through reminds me of Pakistan during 2010.

However, Aus always step up in ICC tournaments and have won a Hat-trick of world cups which is a legendary achievement in world sport. Do you guys think Smith and Warner will be able to replicate the same form in the world cup as they've had in the past, or will they end up as a shadow of their former selves?

This WC has plenty of games so they will have enough games to get upto scratch.

They are really missing both players. Banning them for 1 years looks stupid now and the Australian players have been very quiet on the field which doesn't suit them at all.

That's like saying a student can just go into an open book exam and "revise" whilst doing the exam. I don't think using WC games as a mean of practice is a good idea to get yourself back into form. Remember Afridi's batting form in the 2012 T20 WC? I got a feeling one of Warner or Smith will have a similar slump.

It's not using them as practice lol. Their ban ends on 30th May so they won't get any international cricket before the WC. So playing games against West Indies and Afghanistan, 2 weaker teams at the tournament will at least give them some practice before the tougher games.

Warner was also talking about playing in the IPL next year in a interview today. So if both are allowed to play in the IPL that will have the game ready for WC.
