So there's a huge influx of Chinese going to Pakistan and the Chinese are investing a lot of money, I was wondering if there will be a strong Chinese influence on Pakistani culture and if it would Pakistan a more liberal country because of it? It'd interesting to see if Pakistanis adopt ideas from Confucianism and how this shapes Pakistan's future.

chinese are extremely non liberal

the atrocities that they commit with minorities in their own country are not hidden

Chinese people are openly racist they are not ashamed of their racism, just because they dress like the west dosen't make them liberal.

I had interaction with Chinese people for a full year; they are nicest people around. If you respect them; they respect you back.

So will Pakistanis start dressing like people in the west? Will western culture take root in Pakistan through the Chinese?

pakistanis started dressing like the west 50 years ago

if by western dressing you mean vulgarity than no that will not happen because of religious influence

and speaking of western culture the west took its dress from the turks who invented pants

Pakistan should reject the Chinese friendship gestures and invite Indians for dialogue instead. :41::thumbsup

Pakistanis don't dress like westerners tho, I'm not sure if you've travelled outside Pakistan. I don't see any "vulgarity" where I live lol.

i am also talking about pakistanis in pakistan

you misunderstood. you said i haven't been outside pakistan which is why i told you that i live in the us

also pakistani girls wear jeans regularly and a lot of women wear sleeveless

i am obviously talking about the cities and not remote villages especially in the north where women wear hijabs and men wear praying caps and sport beards

you seem very ignorant about pakistan. looks like you haven't live there for a substantial amount of time

this is my problem with some second and third generation overseas pakistanis. they weren't born in pakistan and have barely spent time there but act like they have an authority on how life is in pakistan based on their extremely limited exposure

If India and Pakistan resolve the Kashmir issue then it's good for region...
and India would benefit more ...

Incorrect.. Pakistan would benefit more if India-Pakistan relations are tip top. Pakistan would have the two biggest markets right at her footsteps. Excellent potential for trade and commerce.

Take Canada's example, most of our business is with the States. Primarily because the States is a huge market with excellent buying power and world's strongest economy.

i was thinking on the lines that india could use pakistan as proxy against China...

China isnt interested in spreading "liberal values"
politically China is anti liberal as they come. Ban and restrict social media sites. Ban criticism of the govt and the party. What China will want is Pak to just improve its security n make sure CPEC isnt disrupted by terrorism m extremism.

in the cities a lot of the middle n upper class where english clothes already. its not uncommon to go to islamabad and lahore n see youngsters wearing t shirts n jeans. Girls maybe not as much more still wear salwar kameez.

But China's main interest in Pakistan is strategic and economic. They arent interested in really spreading their ruling model elsewhere

if China was really value driven considering it is an anti theist country that is against any form of religion in the public sphere the last country it would ally with would be Pakistan but both the Chinese and Pak govt put common interests first over any ideological goals.

Not really no.

Pakistani awaam is not made up from the upper and middle class, its made up from the lower class basically. And no they dont dress like westerns

May be just a coincidence but East Asians are the most socially awkward group of people I have come across by far

in punjab evan mechanics and workers are restaurants are often wearing jeans and t shirt

not everyone wears western clothing but it is not true that only upper and middle class wear it
