Diesel is done ... :))

Did you check his reply? Diesel being a maulana is not an easy target for ISPR He has people's dedicated support(dedicated support of madrassa students) and he has more spine..so anything happens to him..it will not be good for political stability.

ISLAMABAD: Sticking to their earlier stance, the country’s two major opposition parties — the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) — on Friday announced they would not become a part of the sit-in announced by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the big public rally.

The leaders and office-bearers of the two parties said they had already told the Maulana in categorical terms that they would only attend the public meeting and would not support any sit-in.

They said they had not issued any specific directives to their workers and activists regarding participation in the sit-in.

“We came only for one day,” said PML-N secretary general Ahsan Iqbal while talking to Dawn.

Mr Iqbal, who also addressed the Azadi march participants with PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif, said even party’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif had asked them to participate in the Azadi march for one day only.

Mr Iqbal, who was preparing to go to the residence of Maulana Fazl for a meeting of the heads of the opposition parties, said the PML-N workers had participated in the Azadi march and the public meeting with full enthusiasm. However, he said, the party had not given any call for a sit-in to its workers.

Similarly, PPP secretary general Farhatullah Khan Babar said his party leadership had made it clear during the multi-party conferences (MPCs) and the meetings of the Rehbar Committee that his party would not take part in an “indefinite dharna (sit-in).”

When told that so far it was only a two-day sit-in, Mr Babar said he could not make a comment on the matter as he was not aware of the step that would be taken by the JUI-F after expiry of the two-day deadline set by the Maulana for the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

When asked about the possibility of PPP’s participation in the sit-in if it was extended beyond Sunday (tomorrow), he said he could not make a comment without discussing the matter in the party.

Similarly, he refused to reply when asked to explain his party’s possible stance in case the JUI-F chief requested them for a “token participation” in the sit-in.

Mr Babar, however, said the plan of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to address public meetings in South Punjab was still intact. He said Mr Bhutto-Zardari was scheduled to fly to Rahim Yar Khan for a public meeting, but his aircraft could not take off due to bad weather.

He said taking advantage of the cancellation of his flight, the PPP chairman reached the Azadi march venue and addressed its participants along with other opposition leaders, including PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif.

Opposition parties’ Azadi march, which was spearheaded by the JUI-F, entered Islamabad on Thursday night. The decision of the JUI-F chief to keep his plans secret till the last moment not only kept the government and local administration of the capital perplexed, but it also came under criticism from key political allies.

Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan, who had arrived in Islamabad from Charsadda at the head of his party’s procession before the arrival of the JUI-F caravan, had complained about the lack of coordination among parties and even wondered where had the Rehbar Committee gone.

Fawad Chaudhry warns Azadi marchers against underestimating PTI govt

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry terms Azadi March's participants as "bunch of opportunists" and warns them not to "underestimate" the government.

Jesi karni waisi bharni.

Throwing out govts by holding marches and dharna's is never a good idea for a democracy but of course, a tradition has been set by you know who. Now anyone and everyone who can get a few thousand people out on the streets can also dream of having their star shine for a few days in the political limelight.

Molana Fazl is obviously getting a very big crowd out, probably bigger than PAT/PTI dharna/march but is this the way to move forward. Despite my differences with IK and PTI, I am totally against this current Azadi march. Opposition needs to take up the govt. in the parliament. If they really want to change the govt, they should forward a no confidence vote against the PM and get independents and other smaller parties on their side. But everyone's afraid of who is backing IK and PTI and what will happen to them if they push too hard and draw the ire of those whose names can never be spoken. Meanwhile our country keeps sliding from bad to worse in its economic and social conditions. Hope things get sorted out soon otherwise Pakistan is the future Somalia.

Fawad Chaudhry has been a part of PMLQ, APML, PPP and now PTI. He himself is the textbook definition of an opportunist.

These are the type of incompetent hypocrites Imran chose to lead his tabdeeli and Naya Pakistan drama.

The struggle that IK put in in his life is what got him through. The Maulana and his men simply do not have that staying power.

The opposition is acting undemocratically but they have every right to give Imran a taste of his own medicine at a higher dose. Imran was naive to think that no one would follow his precedence.

Asif Ghafoor’s statement exposed his nervousness and biased attitude. I wish the military would have adopted the same attitude in the 2014 PTI Azadi March, but that was a halal dharna while this one is haram.

This corrupt nizam is now on its deathbed ,Remember if Imran goes than so does this Nizam .The situation is heading for an MINUS ALL FORMULA!.

You just need to tune in to the indian media and you will get an clear picture of what is actually happening. It was imrans incompetence that he allowed the situation to reach this point and his advisors have actually led imran to a dead end.If he could have arrested that swine the situation would have never reached this point. It seems like we are heading for an minus all formula.

What timing for all this to happen - so we may now see images and headlines around the world showing armed troops against civilians in Islamabad and curfews being imposed, all this in the backdrop of what’s happening in Kashmir and the strong stance Pakistan govt has taken on it.

Well done to the opposition - very smart politics.

It is not in Imran’s power. It is the military establishment that is pulling the strings. They are basically covering all basis - they are not publicly supporting the opposition but they are not allowing the government to be hostile against the opposition.

The military aggressively backed Imran Khan but now they realize that it was a mistake because he is out of his depth.

However, they don’t trust the opposition either at this point, so they are basically playing both sides to ensure that both the government and the opposition remains weak.

Imran is in a tough, helpless spot at the moment. His future is in the hands of the establishment who will pull the chord when they feel the time is right. This is the price you pay when you come into power using their help. Both Benazir and Nawaz paid the price and so will Imran one day.

Meanwhile, he is sitting in Gilgit wearing a feather cap pretending that he is not worried.

Opposition to meet today to decide if Azadi March should be taken to D-Chowk

A meeting of the opposition's Rehbar Committee will take place later today at JUI-F leader Akram Khan Durrani's residence.

The meeting scheduled for 3pm will be chaired by Durrani.

The committee during the huddle will decide whether the Azadi March should be taken to D-Chowk located in the capital's red zone or not, according to a spokesperson for Durrani. It will also thrash out the opposition's strategy until its demands are met by the government.

Among the leaders expected to attend the meeting are PPP's Farhatullah Babar and Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, PML-N's Ahsan Iqbal and Ayaz Sadiq, Awami National Party general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, National Party Senator Tahir Bizenjo, and others.

I think its been great for IK, it tells the country to chose between the forces of the mafia( led by Diesel, NS and Billo) against him. Its often said that the poor got robbed by the Nooras and PPP because they had no choice, well they won't have that excuse in the future.

No discussion on PM's resignation, govt committee tells opposition

The government negotiating committee has made it clear that there will be "no discussion" with the opposition regarding their demand for Prime Minister Imran Khan to resign.

"No one should even think about it," Defence Minister Pervez Khattak told a press conference.

He said the government and PTI Core Committee were "saddened" by the speeches given by opposition leaders on Friday.

Khattak said they hoped the JUI-F-led protesters will stick to the agreement they had reached with the government and will not violate its provisions.

JUI is holding jalsa so one person can get back his luxurious life back at the expense of tax payers.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan’s powerful military said it supported the country’s elected government and the constitution, as tens of thousands of opposition protesters gathered in the capital demanding that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s year-old government quits by Sunday.

“We believe in the law and the constitution and our support is with the democratically elected government, not with any party,” military spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor said in comments to a television news channel late on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, the opposition had demanded that cricket star-turned-politician Khan and his administration resign within two days, raising the stakes in a protest campaign that the government has denounced as a threat to democracy.

The opposition says Khan’s government is illegitimate and is being propped up by the military, which has ruled Pakistan for about half of its history and sets security and foreign policy.

The military denies meddling in politics and Khan has dismissed the calls to step down.

The leader of the protest, religious party chief Fazl-ur-Rehman, told a rally of tens of thousands of supporters that he did not want a “collision with institutions”, a thinly veiled reference to the military, and called on them to be impartial.

Ghafoor said Rehman should know the military was impartial and it should not be dragged into politics.

Rehman, leader of the conservative Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl party, is a veteran politician who can mobilize significant support in religious schools across the country.

He was joined at the Friday rally, which police estimated was attended by 35,000 people, by leaders of the two main opposition parties.

Protesters were camped out at the rally site on Saturday, cooking food and resting.

Rehman had earlier warned of chaos if the government did not step down, but on Friday he told the crowd they would decide what action to take if their two-day sit-in at the rally site failed.

Security is tight in Islamabad with the government and diplomatic sector - just a few kilometres from the rally - sealed off, with shipping containers used to block roads.

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday urged the government to handle the protest peacefully.

The government, struggling to get the economy on track, has denounced the protests as a threat to the constitution and to democracy and has said it will not be allowed to paralyze the capital.

ISLAMABAD: A tense calm hangs over Islamabad as the 48-hour ultimatum given by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to the prime minister for his resignation ends on Sunday evening (today), with the law enforcement personnel gearing up to meet any eventuality in case the protesters camping at the designated H-9 venue violate the agreement.

While the Maulana on Saturday hinted that there was no immediate plan to enter the Red Zone, he also made it clear that the protesters did not intend to return either until PM Imran Khan stepped down.

“Our people want to go ahead but D-Chowk is not our destination. This is a movement and it will continue. There is no timeline,” the JUI-F chief said while speaking to the gathering on the third day of the anti-government protest in Islamabad.

He hinted at prolonging the sit-in, claiming that more caravans were on their way from different parts of the country as they were expected to join the protesters in Islamabad on Sunday.

“How can we call off the protest, when people are still pouring in?” the JUI-F chief said while taking a commitment from the participants that they would abide by the decision taken by their leadership that had “actually” brought them to the venue.

Describing Imran’s government as a “security risk”, the Maulana asked the rulers to step down without “testing our patience”.

“We will remain in the arena until we get rid of the government,” he said.

The JUI-F chief explained: “Our history is full of movements [...] We have to take a decision by tomorrow or day after tomorrow.” He said that he would be weighing options to shift from this place to another ground, from there to another ground and then to the next ground until they got rid of the “illegitimate government”.

The Maulana said: “They (the rulers) should have the belief that their writ on Pakistan has ended. You are no more the rulers of Pakistan. The writ is in our hand. We will now run the country. We will run the country peacefully. We will develop this country. We will restore the economy … this country does not belong to you anymore.”

He praised the participants for maintaining ‘complete discipline’ during the Azadi march that had begun from Karachi on October 27 and entered the federal capital on Oct 31.

“We don’t want to worsen the situation. We have organised 15 ‘million’ marches in nine months, which are enough evidence to prove how organised we have been and how we maintain law and order,” he added.

Meanwhile, PM Khan issued instructions to the interior ministry to get ready to deal with any kind of situation in case the protesters violated their agreement with the local administration by trying to advance towards the sensitive Red Zone of Islamabad.

Sources said the law enforcers had already devised a plan to keep the protesters confined to the designated H-9 venue and not to allow them to move to some other place.

Rehbar committee meeting
Earlier, members of the opposition’s Rehbar committee met at the residence of JUI-F leader Akram Durrani, and discussed possible scenarios and the government’s latest offer for talks.

Briefing reporters about the committee’s meeting, Mr Durrani said all options, including resignations from assemblies, lockdown and blocking of highways, were under consideration.

He said leaders of the opposition parties agreed that the Azadi march’s objective was to have “premier’s resignation” and “fresh elections without army’s supervision”.

The committee convener said being democratic, they were ready for talks with the government, but its representatives must not to use “harsh” language against their opponents.

Sources said the PML-N and the PPP had advised the JUI-F leadership not to prolong the sit-in as it could create a confrontational situation. They said the PPP and the PML-N leaders were also opposed to the idea of resigning from the assemblies.

SLAMABAD: The federal government appears determined to block the Azadi March from leaving its designated protest site after Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman threatened to march on D-Chowk on Sunday (today) if the prime minister does not resign.

Senior officials decided on Saturday that the protesters would not be allowed to march towards D-Chowk from Peshawar Mor at any cost.

The meeting, which was chaired by the interior secretary, was also attended by representatives of the army and Rangers as well as the Islamabad chief commissioner and the police chief.

The meeting reviewed the situation following Mr Rehman’s two-day deadline and discussed how to deal with any untoward situation after it concludes. The administration was asked to meet organisers of the sit-in and ensure their earlier agreement, under which the JUI-F said the march would not enter the Red Zone, is implemented.

Directives were also issued permitting the use of force, including arrest, tear gas and baton charge to counter violations of the agreement and the law.

Capital administration and police officials told Dawn the venue would be sealed with shipping containers to confine protesters and JUI-F leaders to the protest site.

Roads leading to the Red Zone from Peshawar Mor and all roads leading further into Islamabad, including through residential sectors, will be closed off with containers. A contingent of police will surround the containers to intercept marchers if they successfully remove the cordon around the venue, they said.

Separate rings of security will also be in place to take action against the marchers.

Rangers and Frontier Constabulary will be deployed in the Red Zone alongside police, and all the roads leading to the Red Zone will be placed under surveillance. Police contingents will be deployed in various areas, including on Kashmir Highway and Khayaban-i-Suhrawardi.

Separately, a few participants of the march made an effigy of the prime minister and pelted it with stones, while others held a dummy funeral. The JUI-F leadership criticised both acts and asked the participants to refrain from such practices.

Volunteers from Ansarul Islam took notice of the effigy and removed the participants responsible from the venue, the officials said. The group that held a funeral was also removed.

Police officers told Dawn a few people were also taken into custody at the protest on Saturday.

A man was apprehended by Ansarul Islam volunteers for hoisting an Afghan Taliban flag, they said, and was handed over to the police for legal action. The officers said the man was taken to an undisclosed location.

Five people were also caught stealing purses and mobile phones from participants by volunteers. Police officials deployed at the metro bus depot told Dawn five pickpockets were handed over to them by volunteers, who were taken to the Industrial Area subdivision for legal action.

In addition, more than 300 participants have been injured or fallen ill in the last three days.

Pakistan Red Crescent first aid trainer Mehmood Saboor and volunteer Tasawar Ahmed Butt told Dawn that they had treated more than 350 people at the medical camp set up at the protest site.

They said most of them had sustained injuries to their feet and legs from stones, road dividers, shrubbery and barbed wire.

They were provided first aid at the camp and a number of people were taken to hospital in ambulances and on motorcycles if they needed further treatment, including stitches.

They said a number of participants had complained of the flu and headaches, and sleeping out in the open in cold weather had also affected them.

The Taliban are now officially halal for the Nooras and PPP.

A few weeks back Taliban leader was welcomed with open arms by SMQ saab and DG ISI.
So Taliban are not untouchables for Pakistani establishment and civilian govts.

lol, indians are being welcomed to kartarpur corridor, doesnt mean its okay to wave indian flags at the dharna in Pakistan.

They are dealing with Taliban, so that some sort of peace agreement can be reached, so that there are less attacks in Pakistan. This isnt the same thing as a Pakistani waving their flag.

When you have nothing else to say start blaming the deep state / establishment / army.

Come on man you and i both know that Its actually the establishment who are ruling the country and taking majority of the shots especially in foreign policy, accountability and electoral process(I am not saying its a bad thing since this rule is carried out in every countries even the usa and israel where the establishment plays a big role) but all i am saying is imran should had the spine to arrest fazlu and all the other traitors but his advisers misled him and he is now sitting in a corner with nobody but himself to blame.

I don’t see it like that. For me the only people that are cornered are those that have tried their level best to incite some sort of rebellion against the sitting government because they know they will soon be brought to task for their past misdeeds.
I can’t agree with anyone that thinks the army is about to ditch IK. In the future if IK’s tenure is a disaster, which it is not even close to being at the moment, than maybe but I think he will be given his full term to sort out the mess of the last three decades.
We need to show some patience.

'Deadline' for PM's resignation extended; opposition to make final decision in APC

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has decided to give the government an extension in the previously set "two-day deadline" for the prime minister to resign, until a final decision by opposition members is taken during an All Parties Conference (APC).

A six-hour long consultative session today between JUI-F members ended without the formulation of a future strategy in the anti-government campaign. Rehman is awaiting the final decision by PPP and PML-N on the matter. The JUI-F members have left their own party's final decision to their chief.

The meeting concluded with the JUI-F chief tasking the opposition's Rehbar Committee head Akram Khan Durrani with convening an APC, the date and venue of which will be announced after contact is established with the various opposition parties.

Deliberations on whether the parties wish to proceed to D-Chowk or not and whether the sit-in should be continued will be held during the APC meeting.

BAHAWALPUR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, on Sunday, hinted towards his party joining the Azadi March dharna.

The PPP chairman said that as announced before, his party was never a part of any sit-in protest.

"However, if the PPP's core committee decides that we must participate in the dharna, we can think on it," he said.

Bilawal clarified Maulana Fazlur Rehman's statement by saying that the JUI-F chief did not threaten the prime minister by arresting him.

"He simply meant that the emotions of the people were such that they wanted to arrest the prime minister," he said.

The PPP chairman paid a visit to those who had gotten injured in the Tezgam train incident and inquired after their health. He called on Sheikh Rashid to resign from the railways ministry.

Azadi March background:
Thousands of protesters have converged on the federal capital under the banner of the Azadi March, seeking to send packing Prime Minister Imran Khan packing.

The ‘Azadi’ March caravan, which set off from Sindh, left Punjab’s city Lahore on Wednesday and culminated its journey Thursday night in Islamabad.

Opposition leaders delivered fiery speeches against the PTI government on Friday, giving the prime minister a 48-hour ultimatum to resign.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman gave Prime Minister Imran two days to step down, failing which the protesters may march on to the PM House, 'force' the prime minister to step down, and 'arrest' him.

The government announced on Saturday that they would approach the courts over Fazlur Rehman's statements, accusing him of "instigating the people" and rallying them for 'mutiny'.

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman threatened to shut down the entire country, on Sunday.

The JUI-F chief was speaking to the Azadi March protesters at the H-9 venue when he said that the time was up for Prime Minister Imran.

"They are asking us to go and file complaints with the election commission," he said. "Election Commission is even more helpless than us," he added.

Fazl said that if the election commission was not so helpless, such a large crowd wouldn't have assembled in Islamabad.

"We have decided not to go to any court or election commission," he said. "Only a parliamentary committee will decide about rigging."

Fazl said that a case of the PTI's foreign funding was being heard by the Election Commission since the past five years but no verdict had been given on it.

Read more: Azadi March Live Updates

"If it couldn't decide about the foreign funding case then what decision can the ECP give on other matters," he wondered.

Fazl said that there was no option but to send the rulers home.

"These rulers will have to go," he said. "You will have to give these people the right to vote."

Fazl said that D-Chowk was quite a small place for such a gathering.

"H-9 is an open space--D-Chowk is quite small for a gathering like this," he said. "Whatever decision we make, we will do so with consensus with all opposition parties," he said.

"Do you expect this novice to teach us politics? Now people born with a golden spoon in their mouths will teach us politics and that too, the politics of the poor?" he asked.

Fazl issued a stern warning to Prime Minister Imran, warning him that his Azadi March would throw him away.

"If this flood decides to move towards the Prime Minister House, no one can dare stop it," he said. "Imran Khan, listen to me. This movement and flood of people will force you out of the prime minister's seat."

Fazl criticised the prime minister and said that it was unfortunate that he was occupying such a coveted seat.

"We know about you and your character very well," he said. "We are also aware of ourselves and our characters."

Bilawal, Shehbaz will not participate in APC

PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will not participate in an All Parties Conference (APC) being held at JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's residence today, say party sources.

According to PML-N sources, Shehbaz is unable to attend due to back pain as well as other PML-N related engagements. Instead, party leaders Ayaz Sadiq and Dr Ibadullah will represent the party.

During the APC, the final consultations of the future strategy of the Azadi March will be held. The JUI-F chief will also be informed of decisions taken during a PML-N meeting today.

Additionally, PPP sources said that Bilawal will not participate in the APC either, adding that he is currently in Bahawalpur.

It's not easy camping outdoors, that too for an indefinite period, which is why participants of the 'Azadi March' came prepared with solar panels to Islamabad's H-9 area.

The equipment ensures that their stay at the dharna remains comfortable without them having to ask the government for any machinery in order to keep their gadgets charged.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supporters — many of whom have arrived from other cities — have brought along solar panels with them to charge their cell phones and to light emergency lights at night. Several people in the 'Azadi March' arrived from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 10-member teams, similar to the pattern of Tableeghi Jamaat and brought enough gadgets and necessities to spend more than three to seven days at the sit-in.

Each team has its own solar panel. Those participants who did not bring one can borrow the panels from other teams.

"We arrived from Bannu and it will be easy for us to charge the mobile phone for our team," said Muhammad Hanif, a participant of the JUI-F sit-in.

He said that the solar panel could charge five cell phones at a time.

"We did not charge any fee from others for charging the cell phones from the participants as we came here for a cause — to get the resignation of the government who had been formed through rigged elections," he said.

Sajjad Khan, a participant from Peshawar, said that he and his companions brought the solar panels as there were reports that the government would not provide any electricity to the participants of the 'Azadi March'. The JUI-F leaders had also directed workers and supporters to make arrangements in this regard.

Khan said that cell phones were important in order to keep in touch with relatives and family members. However, participants were unable to access the internet, as services in the area have been suspended.

He said that internet was available when the participants arrived in the capital on Thursday evening. But later, he alleged, the government suspended internet services in the area so the people would not upload videos or pictures of the public meeting on social media.

Mohammad Tayyab, another participant, said: "We are peaceful and brought our own gadgets; [we] did not steal any electricity of the government."

He said that it was an old perception that seminary students or scholars did not know how to use modern technology or that they were averse to its applications and explained: "We are against using technology for evil purposes."

If govt wants to reach middle ground, it should present suggestions: Fazlur Rehman

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman says if the government wants to find a middle ground, it should present its suggestions, then they (the opposition) will see.

Speaking to media following his meeting with Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the JUI-F said: "The stage for a positive reply has not yet arrived."

"It is everyone's country, when the ship sinks, we all sink.

"There is restlessness in the country and it is everyone's responsibility to end this [restlessness]."

He claimed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had itself admitted that 95 per cent of forms did not even have signatures and asked why the parliamentary commission had not been activated for a year.

"Imran Khan is not a bigger man than Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, if he had re-elections why can't [Imran]?" the JUI-F asked, adding: "We don't want to drag in the establishment."

Elahi added that agreeing to continue dialogue is the only way an option will become available.
