Early days yet but will this have an effect on the perception of Pakistan?

The fact that so much security is required to host a Cricket match means that Pakistan is a very dangerous place to visit.

The tight security is a must for safety of the players but it doesn't do any favors to the image of Pakistan and Infact makes it look worse than it is.

No. Most of the world is not interested in Cricket at all. Most people don't care about this match.

Come on.. They are doing what they have to do to make things better for their country. Successful hosting of World XI may not result in a 180 degree turn around, but it will certainly result in lot of positives. that is all PCB can do now. A strong Pakistan team playing at home is good for international cricket. We also need strong BD, Afg and SL teams.

I'm assuming the question relates to the cricketing world.

It's another baby step along the way.

You can look at it as a part of the package towards revival. The team will have three different squads visiting (World XI, SL, WI) over a short period. Plus, 4+ PSL matches in Lahore/Karachi.

This should bode well for future tours.

If it's about the entire world.

Then no, it won't have an impact. It'll be a LONG time before that perception changes.

"No..waste of money and time..Pakistan will forever be a terrorist country and we cant do anything about it..we should wallow in self pity and moan, complain and play the victim for the rest of our lives.."

on a serious note, yes it will make a difference. If we can stage cricket tournaments then we can stage other tournaments, which will lead to a knock on effect by portraying us positively in the media. This will lead to more media people travelling to Pakistan to do human relation stories, which in turn will allow us to counter our negative image. The matches will also help the PSL which will inturn bring more people along for the ride. Its a small step but a positive one and even if we get one feel good story in the media that will be a positive.

I hate the word "image", we shouldn't be doing this for the "image", it's to prove whether or not the Pakistani state is capable of protecting visitors and the country is safe for business again. I don't get this desi obsession with constructing some superficial "image".

Dunno, but even if it is able to change the perception of Pakistanis about Pakistan, then it is a success!

Sometimes when you read the posts you feel the players in the World XI squad are more positive about this tournament than some of the posters. It will be a huge morale boost for cricket in Pakistan when people get to see some of the biggest International stars on their soil. That is worth a lot lot more than what others ouside the country think about cricket in Pakistan.

The World of Cricket yes. People who dont care for Cricket wont have their views of Pakistan if they had any in the first place changed one bit.
