He's been phenomenal this series and is a beast on Australian turf but would he succeed against the country of his birth considering his weakness against spin bowling? Is Yasir Shah gonna shut him down? This is gonna be an interesting matchup, Khawaja vs. Pakistan. :afridi

well unless the Aussies serve up rank turners i guess Khawaja will be fine. In UAE Yasir would eat him alive though.

In Australian conditions he will be extremely good against Pakistan.

In Asia no.

He might be the difference Pakistan losing the series to Australia. It'd also be pretty cool if Fawad Ahmed played in the series too, it'd weaken the Aussie bowling attack.

If we bowl like we did yesterday at Hamilton after the initial few overs then just about anyone will be successful against our bowling.

Khawaja looks to be a solid player in Australia and perhaps elsewhere outside Asia too. Displayed good temperament against some disciplined bowling.

He'll struggle against Amir.

That's what they said about Cook who is also a left handed opener.

Then he proceeded to have one of his most fluent series ever going at a SR of 70 quite often in that series looking like an aggressor when he is usually someone who likes to take his time.

Amir might be ok or not but the other lulloos will once again feed him short and wide trash like they did with Cook and are now doing it with an out form Ross Taylor to bring him back in form.

Prior to the NZ series I said Taylor will once again come back to life against us. Few said he's finished.

But yesterday we saw again how our pacers have the supernatural ability to resurrect a batsman's career.

He will be successful in Australia no doubt but question is weather Uzzy can be successful in subcontinent and in England

So in the first game he scored 5 and then a 70-something, not bad but nothing like the numbers he posted against South Africa.

He is better than any Pakistani batsman on show at the moment. Deserves more respect.

Criminally underrated, his weakness against spin notwithstanding.

Khawaja is overrated. He isn't that good of a batsman. Can't play spin at all. Yasir has already tested his patience. Hopefully for Pakistan's sake, he will have a poor series. :khawaja

He'll do okay in the remaining test's. An average batsman at best.

I think he's above average, if he was an ordinary batsmen he wouldn't be captaining Queensland.

as long as he is playing in home conditions, he ll score against most teams just like most recent Australian batsmen

In ausis he always looked comfortable against spin

I'm not sure. Sure, he uses his feet well when he's trying to hit down the ground but he isn't good defensively. Duminy got him LBW on a flat dart at 97 when he played the wrong line.

Very good batsman, otherwise. Extremely underrated on PP.

Generally it's very difficult to answer this question about most Aussie batsmen until we put them under pressure. I think we got two answers in the first test. Looked very shaky in the first innings when he came relatively early and match was still even. Looked more assured in second innings when decidedly less pressure.

In recently concluded series against SA i remember kp and the other commentator(didn't remember who is)praising his overall quality against spin

I personally think he is a pretty decent player of spin in oceanian conditions......but a proven succumbing player on asian conditions since his record in srilanka was dreadful and am not seeing him surving in india anyway

Overall very good player who has every due composure and temperament to succeed in test cricket.Despite so much understandable pressure around him he trusted his talent which is finally rewarding him

Why can't Khawaja meet up with some retired Pakistani batsmen to help him play better against spin? I'm sure they'd be glad to help.

Apart from Sami and Babar he is below all our batsman I would put him close to Sarfraz. Asad,Azhar, Younis and Misbah all have hundreds in Eng,Aus,SA or NZL I doubt Uzzi can even get a 50+ score in Asia.

How Good is Usman Khawaja!

Have been following him all summer. Seems razor sharp with his technique with an uncanny penchant of coming good in one innings if he has failed in the other.

He knows his game - front foot or back - and is reasonably dependable while at the crease.

Amidst the rough patches Australia have had with their batting line-up in recent years, this is a guy who they need to invest in, for the long term.

Good luck to him for the last test and the tour of India coming up!

NO game against spin

World class on flat pitches with/without bounce.

So will make in Australia

Class player. In time he will also deliver the goods in Asia as well, once his Pakistani background takes over.

a HTB so far in his career
avg of 19 in SL, when he has to paly out of his comfort zone.

lets see what he does in India IF he is selected.

How can the Australian selectors leave him out after these performances? He'll be on the plane to India without a doubt.

he is a bunny in spin conditions. Ashwin will eat him alive in India. Atm he's just another Aussie HTB.

coz of his recent failure in SL . Ashwin & Jadeja should eat him alive on Indian pitches.
it ll be big failure of Indian spinners if this guy cross 50
he was in doubt for Pak series too, but got selected in end.

Past is past. He has improved a lot. Ticks most boxes, has technique, style and temparement. Only thing missing is a big series in Asia and let's see how he does in India.

he was a beast last home summer aswell then Herath ruined him the jury will remain out till he scores away.

So far he looks great against Pak bowling.

Khwaza in particular was disdainful against Yasir.

so how's the results? isn't he successful against pak? :afridi

I think he might struggle against the ball turning away from him. Had a bit of a problem against off spin in the Ashes I think. Hafeez should be brought on to bowl to him as soon as he walks out to bat.

I think Khawaja will do better this time. I feel he has worked a lot on his frailties against spin.

Pitch still good to bat on, so really should cash in and get 60-70 atleast in first inns.
By his standards, it would be a massive score

He can hold his own against spin once set, therefore I think we should bowl spin to him early on. Either Hafeez or Bilal should be given the job of turning the ball away from him with Yasir at the other end. Need to get him early otherwise he can score 50+.

Fantastic knock under the circumstances. He has won me over as a new fan. :14:

Completely destroyed Yasir with his reverse sweeps

Usman Khawaja and David Warner are taking Pakistani bowling way too easy. even thought a catch was dropped and a pretty easy one but still, such type of batting has to be acknowledged. apart from that dropped catch, no real nervous moment came in his batting. He is going all smooth and taking a toll on this poor Pakistani bowling line-up.

"I'm just waiting for the bowlers to miss their mark"
Usman Khawaja talking about his batting approach during the drinks break.

Usman Khawaja completed his 50 in the 2nd innings. Even though he survived a few close calls still it was a good innings but I wonder if it was a slow-paced one when you see other batters.

He averages nearly 100 so you'd reckon he’s been more than successful versus Pakistan

Both Usman and Warner have smashed Pakistan in all formats. Usman did got few chances but he cashed in to those chances and is now looking like he will be going big.

What a fabulous year of cricket for Usman Khawaja and the year hasn't ended yet so his runs counter is still ticking.

Uzzy departs after a gritty 42. He weathered a storm with such overcast conditions but would be disapointed that he couldn't press on after the sun came out.

Aamer Jamal got him down the leg side for 47 in the 1st innings at SCG. His recent batting has been slow and boring. He was a fluent batter, I wonder what happened to him.
