"Will work on our shortcomings & will try & bring in improvements before the WC" : Misbah-ul-Haq

Misbah-ul-Haq speaking at end of the 3rd T20I

"The good thing for players who did not perform well in this series is that the PSL is coming up and they will have a chance to do well there"

"With the senior players who are not in the side at the moment, we will have good pool of players to choose from and that will be good thing for us, especially with the players who will join us (after performing well) from the PSL"

"We are aware of our shortcomings especially in playing spin and given that we have to play the World Cup in India, we will need to make a lot of improvements"

"We will work on our shortcomings and will try and bring in improvements before the World Cup"

"Asif performed well in the One Day tournament and also did well in the T20 tournament; We brought him in today as we felt that our middle order batsmen weren't scoring that many runs and he got one chance today but we will see in the future about him; Of course we will also look at the players in the PSL and see how their form stacks up"

"Ball was spinning a lot and we had a wicket-taking option in mind and we wanted to put pressure with both leg-spinners and Zahid bowled well on his debut and got us breakthroughs to damage the South Africa innings"

"Look there are a lot of matches to be played before the World Cup, about 20 matches, so why worry about that tournament as if it was tomorrow? It's testing games like today's one that help your team build the right temperament and the fighting spirit"

"We didn't have all our senior players and in T20 it does matter when you don't have your full strength side"

"If we take into account that when we have likes of Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim and Mohammad Hafeez available for us and the fact that after the PSL we will get more good players coming out of it, we will be better equipped for the T20 World Cup"

"Look I have been saying this for a while now that Bhai I have no insecurity; There are things in our control which is to focus on any series that we are playing; What we don't have in our control is how long the PCB will keep us employed so there is no point taking pressure about that"

"Danish was very close to being selected for this game today; Our only concern was that this was an important match and it would have been unfair if we had played him in such a pressure game; He is an excellent player and gives us an option of spin as well; We are really looking forward to giving him a chance in the future; Today he was close to selection but we were hesitant to make wholesale changes to the middle order and because it was a pressure game, we gave Hussain Talat another chance"

"I am satisfied with our performances because we weren't playing a number 12 ranked team or something like that - we were playing against South Africa"

"Yes, they may not have all the regular players but the players in this side were top T20 performers from South Africa"

Misbah, it would have made sense to play Danish today rather than the 8 bowlers we played. We were lucky.

In the series finale with the series on the line vs England in England, they gave Haider Ali a debut and he was the man of the match.

While today at home vs a weaker team they decided to go back and recycle the same trash in Asif Ali instead of going with a recent domestic finisher performer in Danish Aziz.

Not saying Danish would have definitely succeeded, but everybody in the ground and outside of it knew that Asif Ali is trash in international and will fail.

There's a lot of cricket to be played for the T20 World Cup, but as things stand Pakistan look well short of a team that can win the tournament.

The bowlers with Hassan and Shaheen look ok. We'll get 2 or 3 decent spinners in the squad, but the batting looks awfully thin and weak and unless there is a major improvement in this area, Pakistan will not be champions.

They need a better balanced team too man bowlers and not many specialist batsmen in the team currently.

Hafeez will come back, so that should strengthen the batting . . Imad should come back in the lower order . .. Our biggest weakest link right now is the hitter . . Asif/Khushdil/ others . . Perhaps a case for Azam Khan as a batter? I really dont like his fitness but do we have another option?

Rizwan
Babar
Haider
Hafeez
To be decided
Imad
Shadab
Faheem
Hassan
Shaheen
Husnain/Usman Qadir/Zahid . . depending on the pitch

Shadab ahead of the rest because of his batting credentials . . but, if he doesn't have a good PSL, he maybe in trouble becasue it seems he is an inferior bowler to both Usman and Zahid

:salute

Need to improve opening and middle order.

On track to becoming strong.

Look, numbers 5 and 6 in the batting line up are a huge problem now. Babar, Hafeez and Rizwan are certs whilst Haider with his hitting ability will play most games. Up to the selectors to be creative with the 5-6 position. I think you'll see Shadab play as one of those two spots as a batsmen in the future. Azam Khan will likely also get his debut in the South Africa away series.

Aside from the batting, the biggest isdue we have is a lack of a seamer who can bowl both with the new ball AND at the death. Which is why Amir's name will stay in the conversation, especially if he hits form before the WC.

Misbah got away with it today an unbalanced team

As usual glaring issues with tactics and planning. Both Misbah and Waqar are clueless. I wish Deanu was alive and our coach. He was brilliant in strategy and tactical planning.

We're playing too many all-rounders and not enough batsmen.

To be fair options are pretty limited and surprisingly the all rounders looked better than some of the specialist batsmen we played in the series which is worrisome from specialist batsmen point of view.

Only justification I could see for playing Hussain Talat today was to give him one final chance, after this no need to select him in squad even unless he does some big change to temprarement, hitting ability, playing spin, and outperforms all other options.

That slot needs to be given to Danish Aziz now now Khushdil also needs to be dropped after multiple failures at international level. His slot can be given to Azam Khan , though eventually at least one will be replaced by Hafeez and potentially both may be replaced by Sohail Malik right before world cup is my feeling.

When the world is going batting heavy, pakistan is the only team which plays like 7 bowlers who can bat a little bit. More then half of the team has started as bowlers in their career
Pakistan team is going now where with this team selection. Top 5 have to be proper batsmen and next three should be batting Allrounders.

This part is very confusing!!!!

1. Who are us?
2. We don't have in our control is how long the PCB will keep us employed!!!>>> Is it the new trick of PCB
to keep Misbah perform or fooling the fans

A Team composition of

Babar
Rizwan
Kamran
Hafeez
Danish
Shahdab
Azam
Ashraf/Imad
Hasan
Zahid/Qadir
Shaheen

6 bowling options and batting till no.9 Pretty good batting depth as well and some good spinners.

Middle order of Kamran and Hafeez and Shahdab to consolidate while Danish and Azam Khan to finish it brutally alongside Imad/Ashraf and Hasan Ali coming in the end.

Danish Aziz is yet to be given a chance.

Hopefully he gets chances from KK.

In the absence of specialist batsmen, it's time we go back to Shoaib Malik. There aren't many alternatives, and the best thing we can do is get him into form and in the team.

Are you serious bro!!! Kamran is a rubbish batsman. He performs 1 in 10 matches with plenty of lucks and drop 3-4 of catches.

The improvements Misbah is talking about better not include Malik. I hope that's not what he's leading to with this "play spin better" talk. A full strength side at the WC should look like this:

Rizwan
Haider
Babar
Hafeez
Faheem
Azam
Danish / Shadab
Imad
Hassan
Shaheen
Qadir

There are some asterisks in this team. For example, if Haider does not show any notable improvements or if Azam can't shed a few more kilos or Danish doesn't live up to the/my hype. If everything falls into place, this team can at least make the semis. The batting seems solid, the bowling would be my major concern, especially at the death.

Our biggest shortcoming is Misbah himself..... He needs to wake up to reality: we were playing a SA 2nd XI, had them on the ropes and still almost managed to loose the series.

We were extremely lucky to pull it off. Poor team selection, poor team balance, no tactical plans, no improvement on previous mistakes.

Someone suggested earlier on one of the threads...when all your so called new generation of batters are failing, why not go with the best you've got.

Rizwan
Babar
Haider/Malik?
Hafeez
Shadab
Imad
Faheem
Nawaz
Hasan
Usman/Zahid
Afridi

What are kamran ghullam stats in t20s ?

If Misbah lives till WC then this would be our playing XI at the WC.

Another useless rhetoric by Misbah. We make it sound as if everything is so simple. That's a sign that everybody within the PCB is worried about the payroll and wants to do the bare minimum.

-We will work on our weaknesses
-Aim is to become No.1 in tests
-We have structure now so will become future No.1
-I feel I have improved
-We have an inexperienced team. We did not have senior players

Not one technical comment on why the batters are not being able to play spin, why the pace is dropping for the bowlers, why are we not using the full squad, why is Rauf not bowling enough yorkers like he used to at the start of his career, why is Shaheen consistently playing every match.

Hearing our management speaks would make one wonder as if Pakistan is the best team on earth, and can win every match on will if they want to.
