That's 10 in a row, and there's been no shortage of big 190+ scores. Is it down to conditions, pitch, bad bowling attacks to defend scores with, or just pure coincidence?

Why do you think this is happening?
 
Lack of Good Spinners.

Spinners are going for plenty and one spinner (Nawaz) who has bowled well hasn't completed his quota of 4-overs in couple of matches. Well, Rashid also bowled well.

Captains are more interested in keeping 4 overs of frontline pacers for death overs, a tactic that should be different while defending. Defending Captains are reluctant to bowl spinners in death overs and they are trying to finish their overs from 7-15 overs even if they are going for plenty.

More importantly, this has effected the Fast Bowlers in more than one way. First of all, they aren't bowling more than 2 overs up front even if they are bowling well. Secondly it also means that we are seeing less overs of Pace during Middle-Overs.

Captains need to take a leap of faith and either bowl 2-3 overs of spin inside power play or bowl with frontline pacers when the chase hasn't still gone past 50-55% of total.
 
Is it me are the boundaries too short ? Every shot seems to go for a six..when in international cricket most of these players just can't hit a six and are usually caught a few meters from the boundary. Anyone got any stats on the size of the boundaries?
 
Look on the bright side....for once, we are getting experience chasing big totals!
 
Boundaries are not small.NZ grounds have very small boundaries but it is tough to make big scores every time.The pitches are very flat,offer little spin or bounce so once you get in you can make big scores.
 
I saw PZ vs MS in person and there was a lot of dew. Its the same for most other matches. Lack of quality bowling and more specifically spin bowling is also a reason. We saw how effective Nabi was in that one game when he actually bowled how a spinner should in this format.
 
Small boundaries are not the reason. Most sixes we see are 70+ metres
 
With a target in mind, teams chasing have more clarity in what they need to do. They also have more experience knowing that with a few wickets in hand, getting 50/60+ runs is achievable.

Teams defending are then under more pressure and seem to make more mistakes.
 
The teams batting first have often looked set to score 200+ then falter in the last few overs. I think this is often the difference between winning and losing on such good batting tracks. Seems to me that they are thinking 180 is a good score so they don't push on to make the game secure and then they are getting punished for it.
 
I think because the pitches are flat, the team batting first gets itself in a great position of say around 140 after 14 ovrs, before trying too hard to make a great 220-230 score. Because they try too hard, they lose wickets and therefore momentum, ending up with a score around the 195 mark.

The second team then also gets to 140 after 14 overs. However because they aren't trying to make 220/230 from that point, but instead are aiming for 195, they are able to pace themselves and bat normally, without trying to hit every ball out the park.
 
Let's be honest, although dew is a factor (our local guys should be used to it) too many bowlers have choked at the death. The quality of captaincy has been lacking too.

I mean if 190-200 isn't enough for you to defend then what total is ?
 
Execution of bowlers under pressure at the death overs while defending hasnt been great and especially experienced bowlers like Sohail Tanvir (4 overs for 38 and 3 overs for 40), Shinwari (4 overs for 47 and 4 overs for 49) and Amir (4 overs for 44) while defending have let their teams down in crucial junctures.

This is just not good enough from experienced bowlers in those 5 matches when teams chased big totals. Few good yorkers if executed well could have given a different result in atleas 2-3 out of these 5 matches.
 
I haven't seen the games but if this is the case then I guess dew could be playing a big part here. In IPL too I observe teams chasing win more often.
 
nothing stopping teams to aim for a 220-230 score when they bat first. Need to get out of their comfort zone and make it happen
 
Reckon the trend will break today. Lahore will find it difficult to chase this down now with Hafeez's dismissal.
 
All you need is to taunt Mohammad Amir to break this trend
 
Seems trend will continue for now. I blame Imad for not bowling himself.
 
Dan Christian to defend 10 off the last over? I won't necessarily bet against him to deliver under pressure.
 
Poor batting at the death in the 1st innings cost the losing team once again. Pattern emerging

This for sure, Karachi game management with bat poor again, Babars strike rate game before last and tonight Nabi, Imad, Christian not being around for last 2-3 overs.
 
KK was winning this but cue Wiese at the end.
 
Why would you not bowl out Amir in his first spell today? This is what I was talking about in Post #2. Captains are more interested to keep 2 overs of frontline pacers for death overs. It's understandable when you are bowling first. But doing it in 2nd innings is not a good idea.

With this trend, Shadab is the most likely Captain to defend a total.
 
Bowlers are being severely tested in batting friendly conditions. This is the only way they learn how to keep things tight and operate against the Big 5 batsmen in Limited overs Cricket in the flat wickets we see today
 
Mehh.

Teams batting 1st should get scores above 200. Chasing 190 odd on these wickets is not a big deal.

Also at least a couple of games the death bowling while defending was pathetic to say the least....
 
10/15 runs makes a big difference in T20. I think if teams get over 200, they would be able to defend it. There has been some good batting, but have to be honest some of the death bowling and spin bowling has not been great.

Until scores are chased down a couple of times no one will take this tournament seriously including future broadcasters!!
 
Looks like Quetta about to change this stat!

Speaking with a couple of the players who have played in the warm-up matches, they were saying the wicket has been very 2-paced and sluggish with the ball not coming on to the bat very well.

I expect the usual chest thumping about how PSL has the greatest bowlers in the world will occur in that case.

Is it true that PSL reduce the number of foreigners from 4 to max 3 ?

Not only in PSL. The same thing happens in most international T20's & in other leagues as well.

In all 4 games thus far, teams winning the toss who bowled 1st have won the matches.

I think this factor ( win toss , win the game ) is overblown in PSL . Its not just PSL , generally in T20 , batting 2nd has some advantage as chasing team can pace its run rate as needed . In longer version , even in 50 over game its a different case, team batting 2nd has some score board pressure which is difficult to handle sometime for long.

In today's 2nd game ( Qlbd Vs KK ) , game could have gone either way, was a close game . Credit also goes to Fakhar, for his match winning inning .

Similar was the case in World T20 as well. Only around 3 times amongst the top 10 teams in the world T20 (Post qualifying stage), a team successfully defended the total.

With rare to no reverse swing the only thing pacers have at the death now are yorkers and slower balls. In the current world cricket even a perfect yorker isnt fully safe option with the ramp shots and stuff.
 
How often is this the case in the IPL ? Are most of the matches won by the team batting second as well ?
