Winter vacations extended in KPK and Punjab

KARACHI: The Department for Schools Education extended the duration for winter vacation owing to increase in cold in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a notification, the schools across Punjab would reopen on January 7 instead of January 1.

Meanwhile KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also increased the duration of vacations, with schools reopening on January 7.

Always looked forward to some extended winter vacations as a kid. Good old days. :sharif
 
So Pakistani this - never hear similar stuff in the West (ok maybe one or 2 days but not like this)
 

Punjab schools winter vacations announced​


The Punjab government has announced the schedule for a winter vacation for the public and private schools across the province.

The winter break for school children will commence from December 18, 2023, and continue till January 1, 2024, Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Thursday.

Taking to microblogging site X, Naqvi also announced the decision to impose no restrictions for the coming weekend, keeping in view an improved Air Quality Index (AQI).

"We held a meeting with experts and govt officials today addressing the SMOG challenge in Punjab. With an improved Air Quality Index (AQI), no restrictions are planned for the upcoming weekend. Additionally, winter vacations for children will commence from Dec 18 , 2023 to Jan 1, 2024," the CM wrote on his official handle of the microblogging site.

Earlier today, the Sindh government also announced the winter vacation schedule for public and private educational institutions across the province.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh School, Education, and Literacy Department, the educational institutions in the province will observe winter vacation from December 22 to 31.

“In pursuance of decisions taken in the steering committee meeting, all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of School Education and Literacy Department Government of Sindh shall remain closed w.e.f 22-12,023 to 31-12,023 for Winter Vacation.”

After the winter break, the educational institutions will reopen on Friday (January 1, 2024).

Meanwhile, the new academic year in the public and private schools across Sindh will commence on April 15, 2024, and August 1, 2024, in the colleges.

The matriculation and intermediate exams will be started in the last week of May 2024, while the results will be announced on July 31 and the second week of August, respectively.

Punjab extends winter vacation till Jan 9 due to inclement weather​

(Web Desk) - The School Education Department has extended the winter holidays due to the severity of the weather in Punjab.

After the notification, the school vacation have been extended to Jan 9 as cold weather coupled with fog has resulted in the inclemency of the weather.

It is pertinent to mention that the winter vacation commenced in Punjab’s schools on Dec 18.

Earlier, it was reported that the provincial government might change the schedule of schools reopening due to the frosty weather.

It was added that the provincial authorities might consider adjustments to the school reopening schedule if the cold weather persists.

Moreover, parents have also urged the officials to extend winter vacation by another week while arguing that some of the private schools in the province have already changed their schedules.

If we don't have any rain before January 9, the situation won't be any better by then.
 

Punjab says no to extension in winter vacation, changes school timings​


Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared that winter vacation in Punjab would not be extended again. However, acknowledging the severe weather, he announced revised school timings.

Schools across Punjab will reopen on January 10, with new timings 9:30am. Naqvi emphasised the importance of wearing warm clothing due to the ongoing winter wave.

Naqvi conveyed this update via a post on 'X,' previously known as Twitter, advising the public about the altered schedule for school openings during this period.

Earlier, the annual winter break for schools in Punjab commenced on December 18, 2023, and was scheduled to conclude on January 1, 2024. Later, the vacation were extended till January 9.

Meanwhile, the Sindh education department has said that schools will open at 9am instead of 8:30am — which was extended last week from 8am.

I think it is a wise decision by the caretaker government. Education is probably the most important thing for kids and the vacations can't be going on and on and on.
