Some really good movies in the lists above. Old Boy was probably the most memorable.

Some good list on the thread.

I love spanish, italian and french movies.

There is good site for european and asian movies. I don't think i am allowed to put the name here but if someone is interested, send me a pm through mods.

Invitation basis though only. I have 1 invitation left i think.

The Korean movie industry has a lot of 'must watch' movies.

They produce a lot of quality work.

Did anyone else find the recent Japanese movie 13 ASSASSins overrated. I was bored to death watching it. can't believe my eyes with it's high ratings.

Joint Security Area - Another korean movie

Very touching story between a group of north and south koreans :6:.
Worked in korea for sometime and can say that their enmity is more intense than india and pak :23:

Most of the korean thrillers leave the climax to the audience to guess

I would love to see "Son of a Lion" can someone please recommend a source for me?

Taegukgi (sick movie)
[utube]wXhMq98Ji8c[/utube]

Point Blank was decent..too short though.

Was worth watching, decent action thriller but not memorable. Heres three supposed top films im watching over the next few days:

-In the mood for love
-Incendies
-The Motorcycle Diaries

I ll post my ratings once ive watched them!

Rabbit Proof Fence

Western Australia, 1931. Government policy includes taking half-caste children from their Aboriginal mothers and sending them a thousand miles away to what amounts to indentured servitude, "to save them from themselves." Molly, Daisy, and Grace (two sisters and a cousin who are 14, 10, and 8) arrive at their Gulag and promptly escape, under Molly's lead. For days they walk north, following a fence that keeps rabbits from settlements, eluding a native tracker and the regional constabulary. Their pursuers take orders from the government's "chief protector of Aborigines," A.O. Neville, blinded by Anglo-Christian certainty, evolutionary world view and conventional wisdom. Can the girls survive?

A Woman in Berlin

A nameless woman keeps a diary as the Russians invade Berlin in the spring of 1945. She is in her early 30s, a patriotic journalist with international credentials; her husband, Gerd, a writer, is an officer at the Russian front. She speaks Russian and, for a day or two after the invasion, keeps herself safe, but then the rapes begin. She resolves to control her fate and invites the attentions of a Russian major, Andreij Rybkin. He becomes her protector of sorts subject to pressures from his own fellow soldiers and officers. Dramas play out in the block of flats where she lives. Is she an amoral traitor? She asks, "How do we go on living?" And what of Gerd and her diary?

Lust, Caution

An espionage thriller set in WWII-era Shanghai, in which a young woman, Wang Jiazhi, gets swept up in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue with a powerful political figure, Mr. Yee.

Frustrated in his attempts to assassinate Yee, who is an important official in Japanese-ruled Shanghai, Old Wu, who has lost his wife and two sons as well as two women who had attempted to seduce Yee, now recruits Kuang, Mai Tai Tai, and their troupe of drama students from Hong Kong University in yet another attempt to do away with Yee. Mai Tai Tai is chosen to befriend Yee, which she does by posing as the wife of Mak, befriending Yee's wife and her female friends, and then eventually befriending Yee himself. Even though both get together, they do end up going separate ways, only to meet again four years later. This time Mai is all set to entrap Yee at Chandni Chowk Jewellers which is owned by an East Indian man named Khalid Saiduddin. The question does remain: Will she and her troupe succeed?

Zaz, check out 'the edge of heaven' and let me know what you think. The ending just leaves you wanting more ;)

The Unknown Woman

A Ukrainian woman calculatedly insinuates herself into the life of an Italian family. Stopping at nothing to become the couple's trusted maid and the beloved nanny to their fragile young daughter, Irena risks everything in her quest to uncover the truth about the family. Like an intricately constructed jigsaw puzzle, The Unknown Woman reveals piece by piece the enigma of Irena's past.

The Secret in Their Eyes

In 1999, retired Argentinian federal justice agent Benjamín Espósito is writing a novel, using an old closed case as the source material. That case is the brutal rape and murder of Liliana Coloto. In addition to seeing the extreme grief of the victim's husband Ricardo Morales, Benjamín, his assistant Pablo Sandoval, and newly hired department chief Irene Menéndez-Hastings were personally affected by the case as Benjamín and Pablo tracked the killer, hence the reason why the unsatisfactory ending to the case has always bothered him. Despite the department already having two other suspects, Benjamín and Pablo ultimately were certain that a man named Isidoro Gómez is the real killer. Although he is aware that historical accuracy is not paramount for the novel, the process of revisiting the case is more an issue of closure for him. He tries to speak to the key players in the case...

Zaz, check out 'the edge of heaven' and let me know what you think. The ending just leaves you wanting more ;)

i have a couple of years back, need to watch it again but from what i remember its a good film

Check out fatih akins other film "head on" Thats a good watch too

Incendies - On the request of the will of their dead arab mother, her twins are sent to the middle east to discover the truth about her hidden past

This is a powerful and hard hitting french/arab language film based on what seems like the lebanon civil war. The acting by lubna as the main lead is excellent and she as well as the storyline keeps the viewer engaged throughout

The film does suffer a little in parts because it seems contrived- some of the coincedences are a little too unbeliveable but if your willing to over look these it is rewarding

A gripping film if a little flawed

8.5/10

The MotorCycle Diaries- a film based on che guevara journal which he kept as he travelled across south america with his friend on a voyage of self discovery when he was in his early 20s

This film shows where the seeds of his revolutionary spirit came from, how the trip (meant to be initiallya voyage of fun) quickly became a voyage of enlighteNment as he witnessed first hand the poverty injustice and problems that plagued his continent

This is a decent film and well acted by the main leads. The cinematography is great and shows the natural beauty of the continent in all its glory. Some of the scenes towards the end though did become boring and overlong and as a result made me switch off

I was expecting a little more, not bad but not great

7/10

which websites you guys used to download these movies? The local library does not have much collection.

Too long to list all the good films I have seen...I specifically seek out world cinema...

Has anyone here seen the Japanese flick 'Confessions'...incredible movie imo...

I liked 'A Serbian Film' but I know plenty that hate it...not easy to find the uncut version but I did...

Korean flicks are always safe bets as are Japanese flicks...but its been a weak year...

Theres lots not mentioned on here but I cant think of all of them...The Class is a good Estonian flick...Lilja 4 eva is a top movie on trafficking, Cache...lots...

Don't know if anyone has seen Pixote but that is one depressing film about poverty in Brazil...I have Carandiru but have no seen it yet...

Spirited Away is a nice shout...I recommend Grave of the Fireflies too...

There are plenty of films on the lists above that I intend to see...I am still yet to watch Pans Labryinth so thanks for the reminder...and the Pusher trilogy I have not seen as yet...

After seeing Head On I want to see Edge of Heaven...Fatih Akin has a pretty flawless record...

I have heard a lot of good things about Romanian cinema so should have some comments on them over the next few weeks...this week though its looking like '****ing Amal' , Sophie Scholl, Philanthropy, The Counterfeiters and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly...

This week though its looking like 'The Counterfeiters,

I personally don't download them...I rather watch them on DVD.

saw judayi - a seperation, the farsi film which won best foreign language film, since it was fairly family friendly my mom watched it with me.

MV5BMTYzMzU4NDUwOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTM5MjA5Ng@@._V1._SY317_.jpg

very good realistic characters, quite an interesting story, a bit too stretched out for me and my moms liking, could have easily have been 20 minutes shorter and would probably have had more of an emotional impact.

without spoiling too much, certain scenes to do with a criminal case dragged on a bit.

could have been an 8, but will give it a 7, decent well made film.

Some more on top off my head which i recommend:

71 in to the Fire
The 9th Company
Armadillo (Danish documentary on the War in Afghanistan)
A Better Tomorrow (Korean remake)

saw das experiment a few weeks ago, decent film, straight up and down. 7/10.

I think that the best non bolly, holly, lolly movies were produced by South African producer Anand Singh. My favourite is 'cry, the beloved country'

The cinematography, visual and audio quality in Singh's movies are outstanding, way better than the poor quality bollywood visuals.
