Littler into semi-finals after Van Gerwen withdrawal

World champion Luke Littler is through to the semi-finals of the Premier League event in Glasgow on Thursday following the withdrawal of Michael van Gerwen.

The Dutchman was supposed to face Littler in the quarter-finals but has pulled out of the third of 16 events in the Premier League season because of a "medical issue"., external

Van Gerwen has been in good form for the previous two nights of the competition, having won the first and finishing runner-up at the second to go top of the table.

He beat Littler on the way to the final in Antwerp last week when he was beaten by Gerwyn Price.

His withdrawal means Littler will get two points in the standings and the world champion's leg difference will improve by one.

The winner of a match is the first to six legs and Van Gerwen's leg difference will go down by six.

Clayton wins Premier League night three in Glasgow

Jonny Clayton ruthlessly brushed aside Gian van Veen to become the third different nightly winner of the Premier League Darts season in Glasgow.

The Welshman, who is back in the tournament after a two-year hiatus, beat the world number three 6-2 to continue his impressive start to the year.

He started the night by ending a near three-year and 10-match losing run against compatriot Gerwyn Price, before demolishing world number one Luke Littler 6-1 in the semi-finals.

The 2021 winner averaged 99.88 and 101.33 in those two matches but it was his checkouts at 60% and 66.67% that really stood out.

While that dropped to 42.86% in the final, his average increased to 104.35 as he follows Price and Michael van Gerwen as night winners this season.

He broke Van Veen in the opening leg and in the seventh before sealing victory with a stunning 156 checkout.

The victory takes him to the top of the early standings, ahead of Van Gerwen, who missed the night through illness, and Van Veen, who has now been beaten in two finals.

Littler wins in Poland despite Van Veen nine-darter

Luke Littler won the Poland Darts Open title despite a nine-dart finish in the final from Gian van Veen.

World champion Littler was in devastating form as he hit seven 180s on his way to an 8-4 victory and the £35,000 first prize.

Van Veen, who also lost to Littler in the final of the World Championship, hit his first ever televised nine-darter but it was in vain as the Briton averaged just over 108 to overcome the Dutchman.

Victory sees Littler become the inaugural champion at the tournament which is the first European Tour event to be held in Poland.
