World Happiness Report 2020 (Pak 66th, BD 107th, Ind 144th)

Think if you did this survey, you would find everyone really depressed!

Pakistan is high up the table because ignorance is a bliss!

Ignorance is common across South Asia, and yet most South Asian nations rank 100+.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Pakistanis are perhaps more content with life despite the harsh conditions they live in and not as ’capitalist-hungry’ as other nations. Pakistanis generally don’t have that ’wall street mindset’ of always seeking more than necessary, accumulating wealth, being too ambitious and career-driven. A decent job, a good spouse and a few children is all most Pakistanis want from life. A lot of Pakistanis that I know are very charitable people as well who are more than willing to give away some money even though they themselves don’t have a lot.

I’m obviously making assumptions based on personal experiences but maybe it’s true for most of the country as well.

Then why's India so low?

And why's Finland so high?

Are you saying Finaland's the most ignorant country in the world?

Finland and the rest of Scandinavia are social democratic nations that have strong welfare systems. That’s the reason why they always top the rankings on HDI, happiness, education etc.

Pakistan ranks 66th for a different reason.

Being too materialistic and greedy would lead to more depression and unhappiness even if you have slightly more resources.

India is among the top 20 Countries with suicide rates in the World. Pakistan is not even among the Top 100.

Pakistan is up there for different reasons. Pakistanis lie to themselves that they are the best. They believe the whole world is out to get them and they believe the whole world is hatching conspiracies against them because you know - Pakistan is the fort of Islam.

Pakistanis feel they are the greatest country on the planet. They do not admit the massive and glaring shortcomings of the country; they do not admit there is persecution of minorities; they do not admit there are honor killings; they do no admit there are acid attacks and they do not admit the awful safety record of children and women in the country.

Ignorance is a bliss!

Pakistan is a very materialistic country! People only respect you if you have money. Poor people are not even considered humans!

how does one measure happiness? I don't think studies like this can be taken seriously.

on top of that, Muslims have a way of downplaying tragedies and accept many miseries as the will of Allah. even when we don't feel particularly well but when someones asks how are you doing, we tend to reply Alhamdulillah, we are good. I am guilty of that too.

point is, its tough to measure happiness. it's a state of mind.

Pakistanis have always been known as happy, although there can be some who live up to the East is East stereotype dad.

India is pretty low down, but once we hit 2025 we all know it will become Shining and Incredible. :)

How do you measure this? A kid living in USA who has everything might throw a tantrum because his parents didn’t buy him the latest call of duty game and be depressed where as a kid in some remote tribal area of Pakistan might be perfectly happy with his deflated soccer ball that is falling apart.

Happiness is very subjective.

I thought that was supposed to be for 2020.

Happiness is very subjective.

Considering how highly ranked the US is and the other developed countries are and also looking at how low countries like Afg are, I doubt that a kid in the US throwing a tantrum is a deal breaker. Also, i don't even think that's the criteria

Looking at how the top 20 are mostly developed countries and how the bottom 50 contains barely any (if any) developed countries, this isn't THAT subjective.

People who think this is very subjective or inaccurate should read the report PROPERLY. Just because India's ranked so low, it doesn't the report is false. These are the same people who think India's a supa powa.

How is India so far on the list?

They are 144th!

Even war-torn Iraqis seem happier (110th).

India ranks 139 in World Happiness Report, Pak happier at 105: Here's list of 20 happiest nations

India has been ranked 139 out of 149 countries in the list of UN World Happiness Report 2021. In 2019, India was ranked 140th

Finland has been ranked as the happiest country in the world for the fourth consecutive year. The Nordic nation is followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Norway.

Pakistan is on 105th, Bangladesh on 101st and China on 84th, according to the report.

People in war-torn Afghanistan are the most unhappy with their lives, followed by Zimbabwe (148), Rwanda (147), Botswana (146) and Lesotho (145).

The happiness study ranks the countries of the world on the basis of questions from the Gallup World Poll. The results are then correlated with other factors, including GDP and social security.

The United States ranks at 19th place for happiness, despite being one of the richest countries in the world.

Overall, the index showed little change in happiness levels compared to last years' report, which was based on information from before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Was curious why you missed out India, than saw it at 118th, so understood why.

Having lived in both countries, i can vouch that India is a depressing country.

Chaiwala Modi's India is not a fun place. :inti

Bangladesh is 134 :/

Why are you telling me this? Do you think my personal happiness is directly proportional to BD's collective happiness? :inti

I am quite happy. Alhamdulillah. I take vitamin D regularly and I sleep very well. :inti

So the champions of democracy and humanity are not even among top 20... LOL

Congrats, Pakistan! If only others knew the secret of being happy despite knocking the IMF's door a record 24 times with a begging bowl.

till a happier nation than the champions of democracy and freedom.

Pakistanis are generally far more chill than Indians. You can see this living in the west quite easily. Indians for some reason take even small irrelevant things quite seriously. I can't say the same about western born Indians though, but FOB Indians definitely seem a lot more depressed and taking things too seriously than Pakistanis do.

Indians are generally more nitpicking, future/career/long term oriented sometimes obsessed about every small huddle/obstruction. Few will say they are unhappy simply for reverse jinxing/insecurity. So i don't think india will improve the position till another 50 years where an entire new generation behaves like West and don't care about past/future baggage.

Used to be the same before I packed my bags and now I live a less financially stable but happier travelling life. Things are still not as Allah bharose as them, but I do see hints of Pakistaniyat in me. :asif

Collectively entire South Asia is unhappiest inspite of getting most vitamin D naturally.

Why is this pointless ranking even being discussed? Seriously, a happiness index?
How are such surveys even conducted? By half wits who go from country to country asking questions like 'Are you happy, yes/no?' to a pre-defined sample of their populations?

I would be depressed if I was Joshila.

Imagine after work, all that spare time wasted on a cricket forum as a self-appointed BJP/BCCI spokesperson.
Well, the Pakistanis seemingly get all their happiness solely by virtual India bashing on cyberspace. Why else would they have online forums solely dedicated to this? They clearly don't have anything else to be happy about.

It even gets them a higher rank than India in a pointless 'Happiness index'. So be it.

The only time an Indian wants to share the same space as Pakistanis and it's on an unhappiness scale where they rank lower. 🙁

Lol Bangladesh and Lanka are worse.. I included them too.

If it makes it better except Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan , South Asia is a miserable place.
