Speaking in terms of LOI. Fakhar looks like will be given an extended run, while Imam has scored runs and is inzi's nephew, but could Sharjeel realistically displace any of them or play lower down the order when the time comes?

I know he would walk into my squad for sure.

I think Sharjeel may never return.

He should... he was never a player who would time the ball. he should have any problem.. But should play some domestic before walking into the team.. Pak team needs him for world cup

No. Fat, unfit, looked terrible at the crease, no footwork, poor on the offside. Got tired in big innings and ran out of steam. Threw his wicket. And he wasn't that young like 28 I believe when he was banned, it's not like he had all the time in the world to fix his mistakes and get fit.

Guys like him rarely make it at international level really even if they're talented. Which is why he had bad stats across the board, which themselves were boosted by a hundred against Ireland.

Think people love to hype these players, dreaming about what might have happened. Someone in his mold rarely succeeds long term, you even have better chance with lower ability, harder application players.

100%

Imam is trash. If uncle inzi was not a selector, he’d still be playing domestic cricket.

Averaged 50 with a strike rate of 115, in 5 matches he scored 3 50’s IN AUSTRALIA. Now that’s more than what any Pakistani batsman can achieve in a career!

Forget Pakistan, He'd walk into most teams. Only India, England and maybe New Zealand would not take him, but even then, he'd be a very handy replacement option.

Can Sharjeel Khan even pass the yoyo fitness test? Half of the domestic system may not be able to pass the fitness test. Seems like it would be a smart thing to incorporate the yoyo test at the highest doemstic level. Then maybe we can talk about Sharjeel joining the team.

I can guarantee you that while Mickey is coach, noone who fails the fitness test is getting on the team.... No one .......

They were flat pitches where even Malik averaged something like 69 that series. It's a great achievement no doubt, but are we really going to hype a player that far on one series, however how good it was. And he didn't score a century unlike Babar, partly because he couldn't really last that long, he ran out of steam. It's not like Sharjeel was the only performer that series.

I do think he was talented, and will result in the occasional good game or series, but I doubt he would have been consistent. People are on Fakhar's case despite his average and the fact he scored a century in a CT final. So off one series nah, especially since he was pretty poor in the rest.

Bit harsh - unfortunately, we don't possess an abundance of batsmen who are blessed in all facets of batsmanship. :hafeez2

If he passed the fitness test then what right do you have to question his fitness?

He was getting better and better and he scored in majority of the matches in Australia where everybody else failed.

As long as he was scoring runs and giving us good starts, then that was great. You're talking as if we have Kohlis and Tendulkars waiting in the ranks.

After his come back in 2016 he was averaging 35 at 120, that's perfectly fine for an attacking opener who was only getting better.

You might be right here, he may have been found out but we'll never know now will we?

I fought ver much a tainted player would be allowed back just like that

I would take him. Only concerns are probably his fitness and if he is playing any domestic (or how much domestic matches he has played). Anyone know if he is currently playing any domestic matches.

He wasn't the only one who succeeded in Australia, both Malik and Babar did, especially the latter. And as I said it's one series. Even guys like Umar Akmal, Jamshed performed for a longer period of time, a year or so before going bad. Why hype a guy who performs in just one series, it's not a good indicator of long term performance. Sharjeel's not making it in the team over guys who have performed for long periods of times with better records like Fakhar, Babar. Or even Imam who averages double to Sharjeel.

I'm pretty harsh on him, but as I said cricketers like him irritate me. I wasn't sympathetic to the fixers either and I didn't want them back in international cricket.

But for someone to neglect his fitness, footwork for years. And then on top of that fix. It's like he didn't bother to work hard , just take the easy route and fix. Even despite the example of the trip before. Relied on his talent and nothing else. With that sort of attitude I sincerely doubt he would have gone far.

Guys can Sharjeel seriously pass the fitness test? It seems like nobody in this forum wants to tackle this question. Irfan just bowled the greatest t20 spell of all time in the cpl and I feel he may never play for pak national team again because of the fitness test.

Sharjeel will walk into Pakistan's side even after his comeback if he maintains better fitness for this 5 years. He was my favorite player and still is after fakhar and babar.

He will walk into the side but expect him to jog.

Shoaib Malik will struggle in England and South Africa. Sharjeel was a diamond and I hope he returns for the WC.

Nice try at trying to be different from others just for the sake of it.

Sharjeel is amazing. Ideal opener.

I’d rather fixers stay away from the team rather than “walk” into the side.

He would add lot of meat to Pakistan Top order

Sharjeel
Babaar
Fakhar
Harris
Malik
Sarfaraz

Haters gonna hate and make excuses.

He would walk in our current aide for sure.

Everyone barring 1-2 posters are confusing what they want with what is going to happen.

If Sharjeel is cleared today, it will be good to have him back in the team. However, will that happen? It is unlikely.

Fakhar has replaced him as the first-choice opener and Imam has earned a long rope. He gives stomach bugs to most PPers, but in spite of his limitations, he has been very prolific is not going to get dropped any time soon.

There is no chance of him breaking into the Test team any time soon, and it will be difficult in ODIs as well, unless everyone moves down one position and one of Fakhar, Imam or Sharjeel bat 3. A very improbable scenario.

The only format where he has a realistic chance of getting back into the playing XI is T20. He can replace Asif and everyone moves down one position. He opens with Fakhar and Babar bats at 3.

In Tests and ODIs, he can make the squad, but it is not realistic to expect him to walk back into the XI unless Fakhar and Imam go through very long lean patches.

There is no purpose in playing fantasy cricket. Get a grip of reality.

No he wouldn't. I think his ban ends around Aug 2019 provided he gets only a 2.5 years ban. Even if it ends then, he would've not played any professional cricket for 2.5 years and knowing Pakistanis sportsmen in general, would not have worked on his fitness at all. There's no plausible reason why he should walk into the team. He would have to prove himself in the domestic for another 2 years and rack up numbers like 50+ average at SR of 100+ in List A to be considered for selection. I wouldn't want him to be another Amir where he gets to play in the team uncooked and performs miserably. Let him play 2 years of domestic cricket to get himself back into the thick of things and then we can see from there.

No.
Fixers who bring shame to the nation should never be allowed to play any form of cricket.

Whilst he is guilty of fixing I don't want him in the team. If he is cleared , that's another debate.

Yes he would.

I was just doing some research before commenting on our ODIs vs New Zealand and was shocked at how bad our ODI batting is when I looked at the numbers.

In 2018 in ODIs against non-minnows and with a minimum of 4 innings - our best batsman is Fakhar Zaman with an average of 30 and SR of 75. Not a single Pakistani batsman has scored a century against a top side this year in ODIs. Our numbers are inflated by bashing Zimbabwe C this summer.

You can't tell me Sharjeel wouldn't add much needed firepower at the top of the order. Now the question is whether he'd be fit enough and an asset rather than the liability he was in the field if he's to return to Mickey Arthur's plans.

Easily replaces Imam.

Also, would want Latif back and playing at no. 6.

Yeah, he is old, but much more reliable than Asif at 6 and can serve Pak well at the WC.

Even Shahzaib as a no. 6 would be good, so would be good to have all 3 back.

Yes, easily in ODI's and T20Is, straight into the playing XI

Since when was Latif a permanent fixture? Shahzaib was also dropped long time ago and was not near a recall anyways.

He wasn't a permanent fixture, but he was close to a recall with his exploits in the PSL (for which Asif got selected) and he did get called up for the T20I squad, plus did well in his recall and you could see him getting that no. 6 spot in ODI's.

As for Shahzaib, he was doing great in the domestic circuit and only needed a good performance in the PSL, to get himself back in the reckoning.
